Progress in Embracing Grace

Progress in Embracing Grace

I am sitting here trying to determine if I have even made any progress in my life when it comes to releasing perfection and embracing the Lord’s grace. This is the struggle of perfectionism. We look at ourselves and sometimes just can’t see where we are succeeding.  Our expectations are so high we never ever meet them, and so in our minds, we are not doing well. Even though that is not the truth.

Today I made a new friend through a group I am in on Facebook. It was totally a God thing and we ended up talking on the phone for a good hour. In our conversation, I was reminded that Satan will use our need for perfection to keep us from seeing, doing, going… You see wherever we allow him to sneak in, he will use it.

In what ways are you being held back because of your fear of things being not quite right yet?

In what ways are you not seeing what you are doing well?

My challenge to you - turn that around! Seek the truth.

For me...

When I can’t see what’s good or things feel mundane - I slow… I stop, or I feel discouraged because there’s no momentum or fire.

I tend to look at my behavior and look at what was wrong with it vs what was good.

So instead, I no longer allow the bad mom days to destroy me and snowball into another bad mom day.

I am learning to DO even if it’s not quite right yet.

I am learning to look at how I handle things and tell myself what was good about it. I also look at the things I didn't like and look at how I can do better instead of beat myself up.

This doesn’t mean I lower my standards to grow and become more like Christ.  It does mean that I choose to be still with Christ while I work through the junk.

Remember, He loves you no matter what. Freedom comes from accepting His love completely.

Much Love,

The Purpose of Planning - Oh & Egg Muffins too! YUM!

Aug 17, 2018

Hey Friends! I cannot believe summer is almost over. The days are absolutely gorgeous, aren't they? Gosh! I love it!

With this time of year comes all kinds of planning and prepping in the Meyer house. I went into summer thinking I was going to just kill it cuz the big kids would be home. Nope... I was wrong. I struggled BIG time to balance mommyhood and business. AND because I did not plan ahead I sure as heck was unable to work ahead let alone just keep up. I felt like things just fell apart. And you want to know what - I KNOW BETTER! That's real-life though. Nobody has it all together, no one is perfect and everyone falls down sometimes. So, at the end of July, I was like - this cannot happen another month! NO MORE! AND school will be here before I know it! Get it together Amanda! You know how to do this! I put on my planning hat and got to work - no more looking back - just looking forward! We all need to kick ourselves in the butt occasionally.

I kicked myself and thankfully others have kicked me in the rear more times than I can count in the last year. Holy buckets friends. Miracles in the mess...

What does this #momboss planning look like for me? Well, I'll tell you some of my basics!

First, I'm going to tell you about a couple of things I was already staying consistent with:

2. I GROCERY SHOP ONCE every 2 Weeks

3. I work with the kids to keep the basic picking up done daily - just enough to keep the chaos down.

4. I planned out each month's events ahead of time

Next up - I've done these things for YEARS but began struggling to stay consistent with them when I had O.

1. Daily Quiet Time with Jesus

2. Daily Self Development

3. Regular Exercise

Next - Friends my real struggles. These things definitely can hold me back if I am not careful!

1. Social Media - Like many, I can lose myself so quickly here. Time sucker, right?!?!?

2. Being present as a mom. I was good at this when I worked and came home and could put work away. When I began building my businesses and did both, my kids lost me. I was so focused elsewhere. I always knew when they began to really act out that I had been too unavailable.  I refuse to let that happen anymore yet, I still battle it every single day. I have to remind myself that I will not sacrifice my family. Planning is key for me here.

Finally, what did I recently implement?

I seriously mapped out my month friends! I made a task plan.

Ok, so I have 2 documents. GET IT ON PAPER! I created mine on Google Docs so I can share it with other mombosses.

One document is a set of lists. It includes a list for Daily Self Development, a list for my Daily Power Hour, Weekly Tasks, Monthly Tasks.  This allows me to break it down each day to make sure the most important things get done. I can pick monthly and weekly items the day before so I already know what will get accomplished. It is so helpful. What I love about this is that on the days that I can hammer through it all, I have the plan to keep me focused. On the days that O has to nurse all day because of you know - teething - I can be ok with the 1 broken up hour I may get.

The second document is the Month as a WHOLE. It shows what my schedule is for my Business for Social Media, what events I have for the month, my schedule for my team education, and everything I will teach on. THIS WAS SO HELPFUL for me! I love it when I get a day where I can get all the week's items prepped ahead of time but when I don't it is less likely for me to get behind because I am no longer overwhelmed! This is so key for me! I hate not knowing where to start! And... now that August is half over I am working on planning out September and October.

I like to schedule and routine - most people do. That structure helps us redeem our time well.

I still have a lot of work to do to take care of the tasks that I don't necessarily like taking care of. The plan in tackling those is actually scheduling out the days I do them as I plan out my calendar each month friends.  I am a big believer in don't make ALL.THE.CHANGES at once. Master a step, or a few at a time. Not 100!

In addition friends, school and a part-time job outside the home is going to make life a bit more crazy. So, I am taking my meal planning to a new level. As a family we will get lunches and breakfasts prepped out each weekend to make it easy on the daily. I know I know, some of you think all the planning is crazy. BUT for me, it is a necessity for success - really, having a plan is necessary for everyone for success. AND LESS STRESS! But I remind myself to do it all with grace because we cannot control all the things and sometimes, it just won't all work out.

With that note - who wants some super easy Egg Bake Muffins?

We ran out by Thursday and I made them Monday!

I will be making more as soon as I finish this post! The best part of these is that you can change up what you put in them - it's really up to you!

Avocado and Chocolate - Yes Please!

Aug 9, 2018

Hey friends!  This is a different post from my normal stuff as it's all about a recipe I tried off of Pinterest! I will link to the original recipe at the end of this post.

So, most people love chocolate, or at least like it anyway.  I like most things chocolate and as I have gotten older my preference has changed from loving Hershey's milk chocolate to high-quality dark chocolate. I would much rather indulge in rich dark chocolate heaven than have something so sweet I get a headache. I know... some of you think I am crazy! Since we have removed so much refined sugar in our diets, well really sugar in general, it doesn't take much for it to be too much anymore.  And I hate how I feel when anything is too much. Whether it's too sweet or too much noise. I am as I am.

Anywho, the other day I was really craving something chocolate.  BU, I had a problem! I had NO chocolate! No chocolate chips. Nothing! Well... except some unsweetened cocoa powder. And, I was not going to hop in the car just to go buy myself some sweet treat. So... I began scrolling recipes on Pinterest to see what I could make with what I had at home. AND of course, I wanted to feel good about what I was putting into my body.

That's when I found all kinds of avocado and chocolate recipes. I have enjoyed chocolate avocado bread, cakes, & muffins in the past and so I knew some of these had to be wonderfully tasty. This particular day I wanted something that could also be a pretty immediate turnaround - I did not want to mix it all up and then wait for it to bake. No thanks, give me the chocolate like now! So when I found the chocolate avocado chia pudding I was in heaven!

The Iron You is the blogger who deserves all the credit for this recipe, my friends. AND he has other recipes I will for sure be trying!  So gather up your ingredients or make your grocery list and get making.

Serves 4

2 very ripe avocados (I got mine at Aldi on sale)

1/3 c (4oz) raw honey or maple syrup

1/3 c (1.4oz) cocoa powder

3 T extra virgin coconut oil

1 t vanilla (I was out so I used vanilla almond milk)

1/2 t chia seeds

Combine all ingredients in a blender or food processor and blend until smooth & silky. I could have done a better job of this for sure BUT it was still so yummy!  Refrigerate for 30 minutes friends - or if you're like me - take a few bites first to fix that need for some chocolate.

One serving

339 calories

26 grams of fat

35.7 grams of carbs

3.75 grams of protein

Ok - Do NOT get scared by those grams of fat friends! Remember that you are eating healthy fats AND you are not going to eat this for every meal or every day. BUT because of these yummy healthy fats - it is incredibly satisfying. I don't know about you but when I eat fat-free anything I just want more.  So... I don't do fat-free. I only eat real fat, actually, I try to only eat REAL FOOD as much as possible. Give me all the goodness!

Well, there ya have it! AND because this is not my recipe here please hop on over to The Iron You to explore all his other recipes.

Oh and some upcoming foody posts - My own very recipe for Cinnamon Oatmeal Pancakes and an altered recipe for Banana Muffins (NO SWEETENER!)

Much Love! XOXO

Seasons & Stewardship

June 3, 2018

It is incredibly important to be FREE of our past, to only look back briefly so we can grow and learn. YET I believe we all have moments where we look back and get a bit stuck. It is important to recognize when this happens and take the necessary steps to let go and remember you are given your current season for a reason.

Why am I talking about this? I don't often get stuck on my mistakes or failures, It is during the time of hard that I look back and see good and stuck. What happened? Why am I not like that anymore? Where did I go? How come my kids have to grow up? Why doesn't my husband do those things anymore? Why? What? How? Big Sighs...  AND I was here yesterday. I had a live video show up in my memories on Facebook that was me being all inspiring to others. This is the person I love being. I am fueled by encouraging and loving on others. Yet...I often don't have the words these days.

The good thing is, I know why. You see back during that time I was fueling my spirit, mind, and body so well. I got into the Word and Prayed DAILY, I read and listened to the positive good stuff, I worked out, I ate well... I did all the right things MOST of the time. Having a 3rd baby and coming home has definitely changed my self-care routine. If I am being totally honest, it has changed EVERYTHING!  It's not bad, it's just different. Thankfully the Lord will meet me right where I am at and He doesn't stop loving me.

If you are a parent or caregiver, you know how easy it is to put yourself last.

As someone who coaches others to live fully and to be empowered by the love Jesus gives them, I know HOW important it is to change this. There is the part of me that says "You encourage others to do this, you should have this down pat!" Well, that's just not real life and no one is perfect.

So as I sit here still in my pajamas drinking coffee, I want to encourage you to take that look back, let it go, accept, and move forward. I could continue to wallow in the fact that I miss that old season or I can accept the season I am in and make small yet necessary changes to be more of who HE created me to be.

Here are 3 SMALL changes I will be making:

1. I will turn Worship Music on as soon as I get up in the morning

2. I will read my Jesus Calling Calendar - this seriously takes me FIVE Minutes!

3. I will pray with my kids each morning

Friends, being a good steward of yourself is a beautiful thing. It is not selfish. It is truly necessary for you to love you so that you can love your people. You cannot be all He made you to be if you do not first accept His love and love yourself too.

I'd love to hear about what changes you need to make. Share with me in the comments.

Be Blessed and Loved today.

Motherhood in the Trenches

May 23, 2018

Hey there mama! How's it going today?

Are you doing all the things just right today and feeling on top of the world?

Are you feeling defeated and crushed because you just had another screaming match with your teenager?

Are you feeling totally at peace and chill because motherhood is 200% your jam?

Are you feeling like you just can't get it right because your kids don't follow your instructions?

Should I keep going?

Mama, I see you. I get you. I feel you.

Motherhood is the area that I beat myself up the most. I mean, God gave me these beautiful children to raise up to be awesome humans. Yet they fight, they disobey, they scream, they roll their eyes... GAH! WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? Do you ever feel this way?

A wise young grandma once told me about a year ago that she had been frustrated with her children's behavior and as she prayed she heard the Lord say to her "Well what did you want? Robots? I gave you children." All you parents out there! We have to remember this ALL THE TIME! Our children have their own personality, their own needs, their own gifts, their own struggles - THEY ARE THEIR OWN PERSON!

I have to remind myself of this so often because I am SO different than my kids. I was the kid who did what I was told, when I was told, how I was told willingly. Sometimes without being asked!  I didn't yell or say no, I was compliant. Yup... I know right. My children are strong, not afraid to step up and speak up, and definitely bold. These are good traits, wonderful traits actually! As a parent, they can be frustrating traits though. HA!  BUT, when we stop to see the gifts that they are trying to learn how to use, it can help us encourage them and steer them in ways that allow them to use those gifts fruitfully instead of destructively.

As a mama, going through these moments can make us feel like we just don't have it together. Like WE JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT WE ARE DOING! How do we love them just right? How do we slow down enough to be gentle? How do we know what to say? How do we do any of it? It's ok, you're not alone.

Let me tell you, mama, I'm not doing anything wrong AND you aren't doing anything wrong either. None of know what we are doing. Even if we read every single parenting book out there. Only God really knows what our babies need and how they need it. All we can do is lean in, surrender to Jesus, and do our best. We can grow and become more of who He wants us to be.

BUT how do we do this? We do this by turning to our bibles. All the instructions we need are right there! All the scriptures to pray and speak over our babies are there. All the words we need to encourage us are there.  We just have to CHOOSE Jesus. CHOOSE Him - that means we lean on Him, we surrender, we find our delight in HIM. And then spread that to your babies.

Then... spread it to all the other mamas you know. We need each other! To cry with each other, to pray for each other, and to celebrate with each other.

Mamas, you are doing good work. You are loving well. And ultimately God is in charge of your child's life. So let go of those reigns and love well.

Much Love my friends!
