Mother Mary as a Spiritual and Healing Guide: Embodying Compassion, Courage, and Divine Grace

Mother Mary as a Spiritual and Healing Guide: Embodying Compassion, Courage, and Divine Grace
Mother Mary has been a significant figure in my spiritual journey.   In this blog post, I invite people of all spiritual backgrounds to approach the topic with an open mind and an open heart.   I am not attempting to discourage you from your current spiritual practice; instead, I encourage you to attend church or gather at your favorite sacred place of worship, where you can gather with like-minded individuals and learn about faith and holy scripture.  However, in this blog, I invite you to also embark on a spiritual journey of devotion with the Holy and blessed Mother Mary.
I have always loved and admired Mother Mary as a role model for the feminine ideal, embodying perfect love for God and for all humanity, as well as a deep relationship with the Lord Christ.  Indeed, for me, following Mother Mary is essential, as she symbolizes the Divine Feminine —a universal model of humility, faith, compassion, beauty, and Divine Grace, and a conduit for connecting with the sacred. Her unique position as Mother of God makes her a powerful intercessor and a tangible example of perfect discipleship, embodying a life aligned with God's will.   Mother Mary embodies archetypal qualities of nurturing, wisdom, and healing that resonate across various spiritual paths.
In every spiritual tradition, some figures shine as beacons of love, wisdom, and protection. For many, Mother Mary—the mother of Lord Yeshua and Mother of all, a universal archetype of the Divine Mother—offers a guiding light that transcends boundaries of faith, culture, and time. She is not only a historical figure but also a living spiritual presence who continues to guide, nurture, and comfort seekers on their path.
Mother Mary is often viewed as a tender mother figure. Still, within mystical traditions, she is also understood as a profound spiritual guide—a luminous archetype of the Divine Feminine who awakens higher consciousness and opens the heart to Divine Love.
The Archetype of the Divine Mother—Mother Mary embodies the essence of unconditional love. She is the archetype of the mother who holds her children close, offering comfort, safety, and encouragement. But beyond tenderness, she also carries immense strength—reminding us that compassion and courage can coexist.
Mother Mary as the Mystical Initiatrix
In mystical Christianity, Mother Mary is sometimes referred to as the “Gate of Heaven” (Porta Caeli). She is the initiatrix who ushers the soul into deeper union with the Divine. Her presence is not passive; she is an active, radiant force who helps seekers dissolve the veils of illusion and remember their divine nature.
Through Mother Mary:
The Heart is Awakened – She is the embodiment of the Sacred Heart, guiding initiates into compassion, empathy, and unconditional love.
The Feminine Mysteries are Revealed – Mother Mary holds the keys to intuition, receptivity, and creative wisdom.
The Path of Surrender is Illuminated – She shows how surrender is not a sign of weakness, but rather an alignment with the higher will.
The Inner Mother Mary: A Living Archetype
From a mystical perspective, Mother Mary is not only a historical figure but also a living archetype within the human psyche. She represents the inner mother, the wisdom of Sophia, and the light of the soul itself. To meditate on Mother Mary is to awaken these qualities within one’s own being: compassion, devotion, beauty, resilience, and purity of heart.
Many mystics describe encountering Mother Mary as a luminous presence in dreams, visions, or inner guidance. Her energy is often experienced as a blue-white light, soft yet powerful, that enfolds the seeker and reminds them of their divine origins.
Mother Mary Across Traditions
Beyond Christianity, mystical teachings connect Mother Mary with a wider lineage of Divine Feminine figures:
The Sophia of Gnostic tradition (Wisdom embodied)
The Shekinah of Jewish mysticism (the indwelling divine presence)
The Isis of Egyptian tradition (Mother of the Mysteries, Initiatrix of the soul)
Seen this way, Mother Mary is not only the mother of Lord Yeshua, the Lord Christ, but also a cosmic mother—an eternal guide who stands at the threshold of mystery schools, leading initiates into direct communion with the Divine.
Walking the Marian Path of Light--To walk with Mother Mary as a spiritual guide in the mystical tradition is to embrace her as:
Guardian of the Threshold – guiding you through life’s initiations with courage.
Embodiment of Divine Compassion – teaching that the highest wisdom flows from love.
Teacher of the Heart – helping you open to intuition, devotion, and union with the Holy Spirit.
As a spiritual guide, Mother Mary teaches us to trust in divine timing – her “yes” to her calling demonstrates the power of surrendering to a higher plan.
Live with courage – She walked through joy, loss, and immense responsibility with grace and strength.
Practice radical compassion – Her open heart reminds us to see the sacred in all beings.
Mother Mary as a Companion on the Spiritual Path--Turning to Mother Mary in prayer, meditation, or contemplation is like turning toward a loving mother’s embrace. Many seekers experience her presence as a soft but radiant energy—a comfort in times of grief, a strength in moments of uncertainty, and a gentle reminder of divine love in everyday life.
Whether through the rosary, Marian prayers, or simply sitting quietly with her image, we can feel her guiding hand. Her role as intercessor and protector is not about creating distance from the Divine, but rather about drawing us closer to the Divine through Her motherly care.
A simple way to connect is through contemplative prayer or meditation:
By closing your eyes and imagining being bathed in a gentle blue-white light.
Breathe into your heart and whisper inwardly: “Mother Mary, guide me into the mysteries of love and wisdom.”
Rest in silence and notice what arises—images, feelings, or insights may come as her subtle guidance.
Lessons Mother Mary Offers Us Today:
To hold paradox – Like Mother Mary, we can learn to hold both joy and sorrow, celebration and grief, without closing our hearts.
To listen deeply – She models the power of silent meditation, receptive listening, which opens us to divine guidance.
To embody grace – Mother Mary reminds us that true strength lies not in force, but in presence, humility, and faith.
Walking with Mother Mary--Inviting Mother Mary into your spiritual journey doesn’t require a specific tradition. You might light a candle, place fresh flowers on an altar to invoke beauty, or whisper a simple prayer: “Mother Mary, guide me with your love. Help me to embody compassion, courage, beauty, and grace.” When we walk with Mother Mary, we walk with the assurance that we are never alone—that divine love is both within us and surrounding us, holding us in every moment.
Conclusion
In the mystical tradition, Mother Mary is not distant or unreachable. She is a luminous presence who continues to guide seekers into the mysteries of the heart. Whether you approach her as Mother, Archetype, or Cosmic Initiatrix, she invites you to step more deeply into love, courage, and divine wisdom.  She whispers, “Beloved child, the light is already within you. Let me walk with you as you remember.”
I invite you to allow Mother Mary to accompany you on your spiritual journey.  Thank you for reading this blog.  With so much love and peace, Grace

Sister Mary Magdalene: Anointer, Scent Priestess, and the Path of Embodiment

Sister Mary Magdalene: Anointer, Scent Priestess, and the Path of Embodiment
In this Blog, I want to share some insights about Sister Mary Magdalene, as I like to refer to this special Scent Priestess lovingly.  In my next blog, I will write about Mother Mary.   But why do I want to start with Sister Mary Magdalene? That is because I also want to briefly introduce you to the concepts of Gnosis and Holy Anointing Oils.
I know that many of you may or may not be aware that Sister Mary Magdalene plays a significant part in the Gnostic tradition.  Let us take a moment here to understand what Gnosticism is. Gnosticism refers to the Gnosis of an individual or the knowledge of the individual.  It derives from many religious ideas, insights gained through our communication with the Divine, and insights acquired through secret societies or mystery schools.  Gnosis is divine knowledge about the true nature of reality as revealed by the Divine. In short, Gnosis means “knowledge.”
The Bible talks about “wisdom, knowledge, understanding.” The Bible actually encourages us to pursue knowledge and understanding diligently. Proverbs 2:3-6 states, "Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;  If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.” (KJV). Indeed, the Bible calls us forth to seek Divine knowledge, not knowledge learned through religion.  I am not proposing that religion does not have a place in a person’s life. No.  On the contrary, religion plays a beautiful part in “faith.”  But this is another subject altogether.  What I am attempting to do in this blog is to help us and guide us in better understanding the special roles of both Mother Mary and Sister Mary Magdalene through the lens of Gnosis and Mysticism.
Continuing with Sister Mary Magdalene.  I also wanted to help you get to know her as the Scent Priestess that she is, and how she guides us to learn about this tradition.  Indeed, Sister Mary Magdalene emerges as far more than a follower of Lord Yeshua. She was also a disciple, not in the biblical sense, as this is not directly recognized in the Bible, but if you read the Bible, you will find that she was a passionate listener eager to learn every word that came from Lord Yeshua; this indeed makes her a disciple of Lord Yeshua.   Furthermore, she embodies a potent archetype of the sacred feminine, deeply connected to the power of anointing and the art of creating and using fragrance and scent.
The Anointress of Initiation
Sister Mary Magdalene is often referred to as the "Bearer of the Anointing."  “The Bearer of the Anointing” is a description given to Sister Mary Magdalene to describe her practice of anointing Lord Yeshua with sacred oils and for bringing the knowledge of rare perfumes.
Her act of anointing Lord Yeshua with precious spikenard oil, a story recounted in the Gospels, can be seen as a moment of profound spiritual significance. It's seen as a preparation for Lord Yeshua's ultimate "initiation into the Mystery of Love being stronger than Death." This act elevates her to the status of a priestess, one who recognizes and prepares the sacred vessel for a transformative journey.
As I worked on this blog, I received divine guidance as a reminder that Lord Yeshua, anointed, permitted, and gave the blessing to Sister Mary Magdalene to continue in this tradition.  So, in the days of Lord Yeshua and today in many traditions, they look down on women who use sacred anointing oils because they believe that only men in the priesthood are allowed to do so.  What I mean by Lord Yeshua's “anointing” of Sister Mary Magdalene is that, in a broader spiritual sense, Sister Mary Magdalene, through her act of love and devotion for Lord Yeshua, was chosen by Him in His Divine authority for a sacred, high, and special vocation and purpose: serving others as a Scent Priestess.  If a man were anointed (chosen) for the priesthood, they would become a priest.  Therefore, I would argue that Lord Yeshua, with His Divine authority, recognized her as a Priestess and decided to bestow upon Sister Mary Magdalene the Priestesshood, regarding her as a Scent Priestess.  Matthew 26:10-13 states, “Jesus said to them, 'Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a beautiful thing to me….but you will not always have me. When she poured this perfume on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial. Truly I tell you, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.” (NIV).
Echoes of Ancient Myrrhophores
The practice of anointing can be traced back to ancient Egypt, where Priestesses of Isis, known as Myrrhophores (Myrrh-bearers), served as sacred anointers. These priestesses utilized oils and fragrances not just for their aroma but also as conduits of divine energy, believed to hold unique vibrational signatures. When applied with sacred intention, these oils were considered keys to opening spiritual gateways, enabling access to altered states of consciousness and acting as gatekeepers between worlds.  Sister Mary Magdalene's portrayal as the Anointer, always identified by her vase of perfumes, positions her as a continuation of this ancient sacred tradition.  And it has been said that perhaps Sister Mary Magdalene studied in the holy arts of anointing in the Temples of the Myrrhophores.
Fragrance: A bridge to the divine
The use of scented oils in Gnosticism, as exemplified by the practices of Sister Mary Magdalene, underscores the pivotal role of fragrance in spiritual connection. The holy oils may be seen as transporting the user to the presence of the Divine by activating inner consciousness and entering states of prayer or focused intention. The essential oils of plants were believed to contain the very essence of the plant, linking the act of anointing with the power of healing and transformation. Mary's "complex preparations of infused plants and fragrant essences", including those with narcotic and soothing properties, demonstrate the holistic approach she took to healing and spiritual awareness, addressing both physical and psychic suffering.
Sister Mary Magdalene as the path of embodiment
Beyond the act of anointing, Sister Mary Magdalene's significance as a "Scent Priestess" in Gnosticism points towards the path of divine embodiment. Her teachings, rediscovered through various sources and interpretations, encourage individuals to embrace their divine potential, to overcome fear and victimhood, and to embody love tangibly and holistically. Following in the footsteps of Sister Mary Magdalene as she poured the Holy Anointing Oils on Lord Yeshua, we can learn from her unconditional love and devotion.  The anointing, then, is a metaphor for a deeper process – an internal transformation that prepares the individual to experience "Heaven on Earth through our sacred body vessels."
I invite you to begin a practice of self-anointing.  More to come later. I hope you enjoy this blog post.   Thank you!  With so much love and peace, Grace
