After being a "junk food vegetarian" for 25 years, and after working as a registered nurse for some of that time, I went back to school in 2013 to get an education in integrative nutrition. It made me realize how ignorant I had been, and opened my eyes to some probable causes for some of the health issues I had been experiencing for more than a decade. From my nutrition education I went on to learn more which ultimately exposed me to the world of functional medicine.
In 2016, while having experienced some improvements in my health due to changes in diet and switching to safer beauty products, I knew I was still having some serious symptoms of a low immune system and I just could not seem to get my immune system where it needed to be no matter how hard I tried. I knew I still had more learning to do (always) and I knew I needed some specific professional help... but I wasn't sure who to get help from as the kind of doctor I was looking for tend to be few and far between. And so I prayed. And then two things happened that changed the tide. I found Young Living, and a Functional Medicine doctor was very directly "put in my path." I mean, seriously put directly in my path while on vacation with my family in a remote location! This doctor was able to help me find out that my body does not make enough cortisol, that my thyroid was functioning at less than an optimal level, that I have a genetic variant that affects how much B12 and folic acid my cells are able to take in as well as reducing my body's ability to properly detox, and that some of my hormones were not in balance. I have been working with my doctor on these issues, and at the same time have been so encouraged by the wellness support I have found in Young Living products. The progress I have made has been significant. As a result, I have a desire to continue my education and help others who have faced similar challenges. I know the need is there.
At the time of this writing my husband and I are scheduling a long distance visit to explore a school for furthering my formal education that ultimately would allow me to help others as I have been helped. I already bought the domain for my business Mountain River Wellness which was originally conceived from a desire to spread the word about moving to more of a whole food diet and less of a processed one, but I knew when I came up with the name it could be so much more. Someday I hope it will be a collaborative effort from a variety of healthcare professionals that work together to help individual clients reach not just "survival" health, but optimal whole body wellness. It will be a long road if I am offered this educational opportunity... but if you don't dream it, how can it ever become a reality?
In the meantime, whatever doors open or close, my family uses these wonderful oils, supplements and non-toxic cleaning products everyday. It's hard to describe what they have come to mean to me. I think the best one-liner that I've found is the subtitle to one of Dr. David Stewart's books which is, The Chemistry of Essential Oils Made Simple...
God's love manifest in molecules. The longer you use pure plant oils the more you realize how true that is.
This journey of learning more about essential oils is truly fascinating and so uplifting. I am continually amazed at how Young Living has so much to offer in this area. I hope you'll consider taking the leap to learn more.
