We are thrilled to share our Young Living story with you, as it was the catalyst that provided us a brilliant lifestyle and through many life-style changes has created amazing wellness at the cellular health level. Robin had heart failure just after his 70th birthday in 2008, and he felt the stuffing had been knocked out of him. He had always been an action person; enjoyed one or two beers, laughed a lot, and had to ‘do jobs’ from dawn to dusk. From the time of the event, he became withdrawn, nervous, lacked confidence, and struggled with the realisation he was unable to do the work he was used to doing, as that for him was his life. His jobs gave him a satisfaction that was a big part of his life’s purpose.
We took a trip to Queensland and stayed with friends who were diffusing essential oils regularly, applying them on us and chatting about Young Living daily. I had not realised that the carer sometimes has as much, if not greater stress than the patient. The level of shock I was still in was not recognisable to me or Robin, yet I had shut down a lot and simply was not aware of how shut down I had become. As I had ancestry to discover in Queensland, we travelled with our friends up to Bundaberg cemetery and followed information provided by some historians we had come across. The five-hour car trip back to the Sunshine Coast was too much for Robin and when we arrived home he went straight to bed with no dinner. He felt he needed to rest, however was rattled, and asked me to ask our friends if they had one of those smelly oil things that could settle him and help him sleep.
They provided me with two oils, Valor and Peace & Calming and said to apply one drop of each on the bottom of his feet, then rub the oil in three times clockwise! The next morning, I awoke shocked to see daylight and realised I had not been disturbed by Robin once. He had not been sleeping well and woke up at least three times every night, which would put me on high alert in case anything was wrong again. I had not realised how exhausted I was from the constant unsettled sleep patterns, so not having been disturbed was sheer delight for me. Robin said that he had not had such a great sleep in three years, and that was all I had to hear.
I walked up the stairs that morning and stated, “I must take those oils home with me!” I wanted an answer as to how one little drop of oil gave such great sleep. I wanted to know everything! So, while still in Queensland we found CD’s and videos and the essential oil desk reference to sustain our curiosity. We learnt of events to attend and most importantly having purchased the oils, we constantly used them daily applying them as perfumes on our body and diffusing them to create an uplifting fragrance in our home.
Personally, my truth has always been you need settled and good sleep for your body to repair itself! As well, I’m aware that life-style changes are required when you have a ‘wake up’ call with your health. Robin had already started to make those changes, looking at diet and alcohol consumption was a very big part of his decision. He had already given his wine collection away, the one or two beers with friends was a memory and water had become a great alternative. We reduced our processed foods and chose healthy alternatives. All of these decisions contributed to a great improvement in Robin’s health and we were thrilled when the cardiologist said to Robin in amazement, “You have healed your heart.”
The past fifteen years is history. We were so excited watching Robin’s improvement as we shared our story with many friends and family, helped many of them with lifestyle changes, and built our database further at markets, home parties and local fairs. Robin’s brilliant confidence, spark, and excellent health is the outcome we have now achieved from the combination of choices made all those years ago.
