Stress Management Starts in the Mind!

Stress Management Starts in the Mind!
I receive a daily devotional from Rick Warren. I was taken back by the title of this devotional. I know fighting depression begins in the mind but I had not thought about stress management in the mind.  My husband wanted to begin drawing his social security this summer and step back from his part-time job, but  because of the stock market we have put those plans on hold. I have had to watch retired friends come out of retirement and go back to work. Groceries are high and so is gas. How do we handle all the struggles?  How can the mind help manage stress.

I believe Stress Management can begin in the mind. Jesus commands us to take every thought captive. If we let the news or our circumstances control our thoughts there would be no hope. So where do we begin? Look around you and find the joy in your family, friends, job etc. There are pockets of joy everywhere around us. But we have to choose to look to those pockets instead of the negative ones that seem to dominate. Take a walk and clear your mind. Summer nights, though hot, can be full of crickets, fireflies, and memories of playing night games with friends. Enjoy those memories. The holidays are coming.Cool nights will be here soon. I am already thinking about how to make the fall days festive and Christmas special.

I want to encourage everyone to become a member of a local church or a bible study. The bible is full of hope. There will be times we need Christian support and having a base of Christian friends can provide that support. Despite our circumstances enjoy life, eat healthy, enjoy friends and your job. Your stress level will be determinded by what you choose to think about. Begin with your mind....

Surgery Update! Today was a ggod day!

Well, it has been 1.5 weeks since my surgery and today was a good day. One day I will post all my thoughts on knee replacement surgery and my experience. But  today I am just thankful for a good day. I have had less pain and I can walk some without a walker. I do have to hold on to furniture but I am more steady.

My biggest endcouragement ts NO brain fog. Actually my brain is doing well. I am healing well, but do have some inflammation. I am taking an anti-inflammatory perscribed by my doctor. I have also added a Young Living supplement called AminoWise. AminoWise enhances muscle performance, reduces fatigue, and supports muscles during and after exercise. I take AminoWise after physical therapy to help my muscles repair quickly. It is a powder I add to water and taste like lemonade. I am alot less sore after the therapy.

Thank you so....much to those of you who have prayed and had so many words of encouragement for me. I am blessed with great friends. Please pray for my husband and care taker Glenn. Two days before my surgery his mothter fell and had hip replacement surgery. She is 89. Glenn is an only child and now takes care of me and her. Please remember him. More soon.......

WARNING!

WARNING!
Four years ago I had a mole taken off my back that was Melanoma. The mole was small with a 3% to 5%  chance of spreading. I get checks every 6 months and so far all is good. To learn more about Melanoma I joined a group on Facebook. The great thing about this group they keep up with new information on Melanoma. Well, last year someone mentioned a study in which Hydrochlorothiazide had been linked to skin cancer. A study was done in which many people who used this water pill also had skin cancer. I have been on Hydrochlorothiazide for about 10 years. So, last year I asked my doctor about it. He said he would check on it. Fast forward to one year later and at my yearly appointment he said we should work on going off my blood pressure medicine because it had Hydorchlorothiazide in it and I needed to get off of it.  I also had an appointment with my skin doctor the same month. She said it would be wise to go off of it. Sadly, It was decided by the FDA to not take the drug off the market but to add a warning to the list of side effects. Because I am having surgery next week we are waiting to switch blood pressure medicine. I re-oredered my medicine and sure enough on the list of warnings it said "if you have any mole that changes colors or notice a  cyst near a mole or any swollen lymp nodes contact your doctor immediately". Those are all the signs of  Squamous Cell skin cancer and Melanoma.

I realized it had been a while since I checked the warnings on my meds.. The meds seem to help so what is the harm? Well, new warnings get added and the FDA does not announce it. I would not have known about Hydorchlorthiazide without my group on Facebook. I wonder if my doctor would have known if I had not told him.  We should be able to trust the FDA. Yet, they did not pull the drug. It makes me wonder how many money making drugs they have not pulled. The United States is 5th in the rate of cancer around the world.

WARNING!  Read your info sheets that come with your prescriptions. I want to trust the FDA but many times money speaks where synthetic drugs are concerned. You are your biggest health advocate. Stay aware of what perscriptions you have and what is in them.Do not be afraid to discuss this with your doctor. They are there to keep you healthy. WARNING!

Copy of Prepping for Surgery!

Copy of Prepping for Surgery!
Yes, I am having knee replacement surgery in June. In the past I had not thought much about surgery. But as I have gotten older I have noticed that I recover slower. Anesthesia messes with my brain, IBS is worse and body moves slower. So I am prepping my body for surgery.

Mindwise is a supplement I take for a healthy brain function. I am taking it twice a day with Ningxia Red. Ningxia Red is a strong antioxidant. Antioxidents eat up free radicals which try to tear the body down. My memory has gotten so much better by adding 1 extra tablespoon of Mindwise at night. For healthy skin and immune support I take 7 drops of Longevity in a capsule with 2 extra drops of Frankincense. Longevity does have Frankincense in it, but I wanted extra support for my immune system. Lastly, Life 9 for a healthy digestive system. It is a poweful probiotic.

Now there are a couple of things you can do without supplements or oils to prepare your body for surgery. One is watching what you eat. Fast food cantains alot of salt, corn sugar, unhealthy fats and coloring agents. Yes, I do eat some fast food but I am limiting how often I eat out. Sugar is never a good idea. But, one that I struggle with daily. To much surgar causes all sorts of problems such as weight gain, heart disease, diabetes, cancer and depression. I am trying to cut out a lot of sugar. I am also concentrating on drinking more water.  I so.....struggle with the water thing, But even though it is an everyday battle, I am still working on keeping my body hydrated. And finally I rest. I rest throughout the day. Especially when my knee says to lay down and relax. Plenty of rest helps to fight depression. I do use Dream Catcher and Ylang Ylang essential oils to promote sleep. A good nights sleep promotes wellness.

With  my knee struggles I find I can hardly walk around Walmart.  I am so looking forward to just being able to participate in everyday activities. To help keep me positive during this time I am using Joy essential oil. I have shared about this oil before. It really helps me see the positive side of surgery and life. Also, anyone who would like to pray for me....that would be really appreciated.

Thanks,
India

I learned how to enjoy life over 50......

Turning 40 was a magical age for me. I was at an age where life was easy. I enjoyed scrapbooking and crafting with my friends, homeschooling my son and serving alongside my husband in our local church. Even though I was overweight I looked good and felt good. But within a few short years my health changed dramatically. I developed respiratory issues, pelvic pain, and a chronic disorder characterized by “widespread muscle pain with fatigue and tenderness”.  Occasional anxiety set in. My decline really affected my ability to be creative, to minister effectively in my church and to function at home.

I suffered through a hysterectomy and many doctors visits. A change in seasons would send me in a painful roller coaster of antibiotics and steroids. Spending a whole day in bed became normal.  Age 50 came quickly with no lasting solutions.

Eventually I began to explore and research natural remedies. Something I was not taught in my younger years was lifestyle.  I considered that maybe my lifestyle was contributing to my health issues and my emotions.

One day I was venting my frustration to a friend who had been battling some of  the same chronic issues. We talked about some of the natural solutions I had read about. One of the  solutions she had used and had some great results with. I became instantly interested.

That is when my real life changing journey began. I found a solution that has contributed to a healthy lifestyle and brought about the quality of life I was looking for.  It is my mission to share with mature women, how to embrace the enjoyment of life over 50.
