Toxins 13

13.  Toothpaste
I used to buy the “good stuff”.  The Natural, toothpaste with Fluoride.  Then I learned that Fluoride is classified as a neurotoxin.  No thanks!

It’s more toxic than LEAD and slightly less toxic than ARSENIC, and has NEVER been proven to aid in the prevention of tooth decay.

Even if it's Fluoride-Free, most toothpaste also contains SLS to make it nice and foamy when you brush.

I’ve completely switched to the Young Living Toothpaste, floss and mouthwash.  I LOVE the way they clean, and I know that the nasty chemicals aren’t  being shoved into our mouths a couple of times a day.

12.  Do you keep a lock on the cabinet where you keep your hand sanitizer??

The active ingredient in most “anti bacterial” products is Triclosan, or Triclocarban, it’s chemical cousin.

Triclosan is linked to heart disease, heart failure, interferes with muscle function and causes hormone disruption!! Studies have shown that Triclosan can interfere with thyroid and estrogen hormones, and may promote the progression of cancer cells.

Triclosan is an endocrine disruptor and has been shows to impact male and female reproductive hormones and possible fetal development.  It is also shows to alter thyroid function.  A recent study links triclosan to the growth of breast cancer cells.

Ya, no thanks! I cannot in good conscience allow my babies to use that stuff on their hands with side effects like that.

I DO love Young Living’s Thieves Hand Purifier though!!  It uses the goodness of oils to clean our hands, instead of the nasty stuff.  So when Cayden slathers it on his hands and then takes a huge whiff and says “MMMM I LOVE the way this stuff smells!!” I’m perfectly fine with that :D

We love their surface spray too – there is NO WAY I’m touching those poison wipes that the grocery store is thoughtful enough to put near the nasty shopping carts.  I spray them down with my Thieves spray instead!  Same with diaper changing stations, airplane seats, and TONS of other things.

11.   Two little stories…..

First, I quickly googled “what is DEA used for” and the VERY FIRST thing that came up was an article from some research and the title was “Diethanolamine found in shampoos may inhibit brain development.  WTH?!?!  So I’m rubbing an inhibitor from BRAIN DEVELOPMENT on mine and my childrens’ SCALP????

Second, I ran out of my Thieves hand soap.  I ran to the grocery store to grab some since that was my only option.  I figured I could find some “green version” and it’d be ok temporarily.  I literally COULD NOT find a hand soap where the first ingredient wasn’t Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS).

We are using Thieves dish soap to wash our hands because I WILL NOT spend my money to buy something that will layer my childrens’ hands with toxins, which are then absorbed into their skin, and put directly into their mouths…..since they’re constantly putting their hands in their mouths!

Who  knows what else was in there, I don’t even know, because I put them all back as soon as I saw the first ingredient.  UGH!

10.  Shampoo, Conditioner, Soap, Body Wash, Facial Cleanser

Ya know, all the products we put on our bodies to get “clean”?!?!  The vast majority of these products contain:

• Sodium Lauryl/Laureth Sulfate - causes ulcers, hair damage and loss.  It’s a skin and eye irritant, leads to organ toxicity, developmental and reproductive toxicity, neurotoxicity, endocrine disruption, ecotoxicology and biochemical or cellular changes, possible mutations and cancer

• DEA (Diethanolamine) – Modified form of coconut oil used as a thickener and  KNOW CARCINOGEN *DO NOT USE IF NURSING OR PREGNANT

• Dioxane – KNOWN CARCINOGEN linked to organ failure and toxicity FACT: Dioxane is banned in Europe and Canada. The FDA does not require this chemical to be labeled in the USA.

• Parfum – could be one or many of over 3,000 chemicals

The thought of slathering myself and my children in this stuff, in order to “clean” them, makes me literally sick to my stomach!!

9.  It’s Cheaper!

Even if you’re not so concerned about toxins (which is hard to believe….) from a purely financial perspective, Thieves Household Cleaner is CHEAPER!!!

If you go to Target and buy the 7 Seventh Generation cleaners in the photo below, it’ll cost you $22.94

You’ll get 32oz x 7 bottles, so 224 oz of cleaner

The Thieves Household cleaner is $22.00 wholesale and it replaces EVERY SINGLE ONE of those cleaners.

Because it’s super concentrated, you dilute it quite heavily.  You’ll likely get 50 14.4oz bottles, so 720oz of cleaner!!

Even if you make it stronger, lets say you’ll get 30 bottles of cleaner out of it, that’s 432oz of cleaner

RECAP in case I lost ya…..
The other stuff - $22.94 for 224oz
Thieves cleaner- $22.00 for 432oz

No brainer right?!?!
