I have been trying to find ways to help my son who has sensory integration plus other issues.  This is just some of what I have learned.

Most people don't know what sensory integration is.  For my son it is trying to find pants, shoes, shirts, etc. that he can comfortably wear.  He might try on every pair of pants a few times until he finally finds something he will wear.  Some days are better than others.

Sensory Integration is taking in all the information around us (taste, sight, smell, feel) and being able to adjust and react in an ever changing environment.

When we are babies we like being swaddled  (deep pressure), pacifier or sucking  (provides deep pressure & heavy work), rocking and bouncing (provides linear input).  Deep pressure, heavy work and linear input is very calming and organizing to the sensory system.

Being stressed, overwhelmed, depressed and in an environment filled with toxins affects our emotions, focus and concentration.

Toxins are in our personal care and cleaning products.

Hand Sanitizer has triclosan which Minnesota has now banned.

Toothpaste is full of hazardous chemicals.  It says "If more than is used for brushing is accidentally swallowed, get medical help, or contact the poison control center right away."

Think about it, if a doctor wants to get a medication into your blood stream quickly, how do they do it?  Often it's under the tongue or in the cheeks, because it goes straight into your blood touted.  Now when you brush your teeth with toxic toothpaste, are you able to keep the toothpaste from touching the sides of your cheeks or going under your tongue?  I can't.

Our skin is a big sponge so anything we touch or put on it goes straight into our body.

Everything from chapstick, soap, shampoo, toothpaste to makeup have toxins in then.  We need to do some research and avoid such toxins as propylene glycol, sodium lauryl sulfate, fluoride, triclosan, sulfates along with many more.

Another thing that effects your health is nutrition.  Can you imagine being a car running on empty then you see  a gas station and fill up with diesel instead of unleaded.   Will it work, will it run?  Will it run properly?  Our bodies are created the same way.  We need real food,  not synthetic, artificially genetically modified foods.

More and more research is indicating that sugar and artificial sweeteners have negative effects on the body.

Water should be pure or purified not full of fluoride, chlorine, prescriptions, etc.

Minimize the use of nearly all processed fats; processed fats have things like nitrates in them.  Research the effects of MSN  (Monosodium Glutamate) and Nitrates.  The Food and Drug Administration have actually said there is no safe level of hydrogenated oils.  Avoid modern day wheat (different from ancient wheat) that is a common food allergy.  Avoid artificial food colors, flavorings and preservatives.

Research and decide what is best for your family.  Research the impact of toxins such as mold, fluoride, aluminum, mercury, sodium lauryl sulfate and propylene glycol on health and the brain.  Research the impact of structure and routine on emotions, behavior and concentration.  Learn to cook and eat whole foods.  You have the power to make a difference in your life and the life of your loved ones.  Take ownership of your and your families health.  Your children look to you to see what foods to eat, lotions to place on their body.  They don't think about whether it's healthy or not, they just put it on.  They trust you are giving them something healthy.  You have the power to make a difference in your and your love ones lives.

If you would like information on finding alternatives for the toxic chemicals in your home you can contact me.  If I don't have an answer I will try to find out the answer.  I'm just a mother of 4 kids that wants to try and keep herself and her kids healthy in this toxic filled world we now live in.  The FDA isn't keeping us safe so we have to investigate and find out ways to help ourselves.

I'm not saying I only eat healthy foods, but I try and limit the amount of unhealthy food we eat.  I buy grass/pasture raised beef (no hormones/pesticides), make my own shampoo, laundry detergent, soap and cleaning products so I know what I'm putting on my body and that it is safe (kids can even use it and if the get it in their mouth/on skin it might taste bad, but will not hurt them).

Our kids are the future and we need to figure out a way to keep then safe, loved and healthy.
