Guide to Laundry Care: Tips and Tricks for Reading Garment Care Labels

Guide to Laundry Care: Tips and Tricks for Reading Garment Care Labels

As a busy woman, I know that doing laundry can be a hassle. We have so much going on in our lives that we don't always have time to read the care labels of every single garment we own. However, taking care of our clothes properly can prolong their lifespan, making them last longer and look better. So, if you want your clothes to stay in good condition, keep reading to learn some tips and tricks for laundry care and how to read garment care labels.

Tip #1: Sort Your Clothes by Color

Sorting your clothes by color before doing laundry might be time-consuming, but it can save you a lot of time in the long run. Colors can bleed out during the wash, especially if you mix white clothes with colored ones. So, always separate your white clothes, light colors, and dark colors before washing them. It's also a good idea to separate delicate fabrics, such as silk and wool, and wash them in a gentle cycle or hand wash.

Tip #2: Use the Right Laundry Detergent

Choosing the right laundry detergent is crucial for preserving your clothes' color and texture. Always read the labels to find out which type of detergent is suitable for your clothes. If you have sensitive skin, you might want to use a fragrance-free or hypoallergenic laundry detergent. If you're washing workout clothes, look for a detergent that removes sweat and odor.  The laundry detergent I make in our home and use is all of they above.... and much more.

Tip #3: Read the Garment Care Labels

Always read the garment care labels before tossing your clothes in the washer or dryer. The care label will tell you how to wash, dry, and iron the garment properly. Most care labels will use symbols instead of words, so make sure you know what each symbol means. For instance, a triangle means you can bleach the garment, while a circle means you can dry clean it, and a square means you can iron it.

Tip #4: Presoak Stains

Got a stubborn coffee or wine stain on your favorite blouse? Don't panic! Instead of tossing it in the washer right away, presoak the stain to loosen it up. You can use a pre-treatment solution or make your own with some baking soda, vinegar, and water. Simply mix the ingredients, apply the solution to the stain, let it sit for a few minutes, and then wash the garment as usual.  Now my washing machine has a presoak stain setting... which includes red wine.

Tip #5: Hang or Fold Your Clothes Properly

After washing and drying, hang or fold your clothes properly. Delicate fabrics such as silk or lace should be hung up to prevent damage, while knitwear should be folded to prevent stretching. Shirts and blouses should also be hung up, but make sure you button them up and use a hanger with clips to prevent wrinkles.

In conclusion, taking care of your clothes properly doesn't have to be a daunting task. By following these laundry care tips, you can keep your clothes looking good for a long time. Remember to sort your clothes by color, use the right laundry detergent, read the garment care labels, presoak stains, and hang or fold your clothes properly. With a little care and attention, your clothes will stay in tip-top shape, and you can look stylish and put-together every day.  Making you feel amazing from head to toe!!!
