In many households, a pet is a significant member of the family. Therefore, our pets’ health and well-being is a priority. Just like humans, our four-legged friends need proper hygiene, a healthy diet, and extra care when becoming ill. The health-supporting benefits of Young Living’s essential oils can considerably contribute to your pets’ quality of life.
The most effective and easiest way to keep your pet’s coat in tip-top condition is by using Animal Scents™ Shampoo. Imbued with the power of citronella, lavender, lemon, geranium, and spikenard essential oils, our pet shampoo gently cleanses, protects, and conditions without harmful ingredients.
For those situations when your pet is contending with fleas, we have included a do-it-yourself anti-flea spray recipe that will help you keep those pesky fleas far from your animal.
DIY ANTI-FLEA SPRAY
What you need:
16-oz. glass spray bottle (we recommend a dark amber glass spray bottle)
1 drop of Cedarwood essential oil
1 drop of Thyme essential oil
½ cup of V-6 Vegetable Oil Complex
Directions:
Add ingredients into a glass spray bottle. Shake to combine. Lightly spray on your pet when needed.
Tips for Massaging Your Pets with Essential Oils
To enhance your grooming regimen and deepen your relationship with your pet, why not add a relaxing massage to your routine?
Follow these steps for the massage:
- Invite your pet to lie down.
- Start by stroking the areas you already know your pet enjoys.
- As your pet relaxes, start using long strokes. This will relax him/her even more.
- Once your pet stretches out, you know he/she is ready for the massage.
- If you would like to use V-6, then put a couple of drops on your fingertips.
- Begin with the head and with circular motions, gently work your fingertips over the entire body.
- Use small, soft movements with cats and small dogs and larger movements with bigger animals.
- The time invested is very insignificant to the pay off. With a cat or small dog, it will only take a couple of minutes. With larger breeds, it may take 10 minutes to finish the massage.
Once your pet is completely relaxed, it is a great time to brush or comb from head to tail. Just a few minutes a couple of times a week will not only keep your pet well-groomed and happy, but you will also recognize if any mood or physical changes need to be addressed with your vet.
When using Young Living products on your pets, remember size and physiology make them more sensitive to the effects of essential oils. Here is why:
- Most pets have a greater sense of smell
- Cats and small dogs have a low body weight
- Cats have thinner skin that allows essential oils to be easily and quickly absorbed in their bloodstream
- Cats’ livers do not function like humans or dogs. Bottom-line: less is better for a cat.
As with infants and toddlers, we advise care when administrating essential oils on your pets.

HERE I GO AGAIN, Posting about young living and all those oils! LISTEN TO THIS!!! Do the math !!
Are you thinking...Essential Oils…..They’re expensive, right? Well, NO, not really.
Do you go to Sam’s and look at a 50 serving size of your favorite food and say, that’s too much? Nope, you say, wow, I’ll be able to use this for a while.
Well, that’s how it is with oils. Young Living essential oils contain anywhere from 85 to 300 drops of oil, depending on the size of the bottle.
Let me give you some examples:
Some days, we diffuse 3 drops each of Lavender, Lemon, and Peppermint oil. That comes to about $0.69 a day; $21 a month.
The stuff we used to use to keep seasonal sniffles at bay? Well, we were averaging $1.50 a day; $45 a month. You do the math!!
Do you burn candles? We used to. Well, a large candle from one of the largest candle manufacturers is $27.99 for 110 – 150 hours burn time – let’s just say 4 hours a day for 30 days, that’s about $0.93 a day. This Christmas, I can diffuse Christmas Spirit essential oil. About 3 drops a day for about $0.36 a day. PLUS, my scent will not have any yucky soot burning into your air – and, if I forget to turn it off? No catastrophe, it’ll just turn itself off in 5 hours…….no worries!
I use 1 drop of Lavender oil and 1 drop of Cedarwood oil per ounce in my shampoo. I’m going to estimate and say that for every 2 weeks, I’m spending less than $0.05 a day to help promote healthy, strong hair. I’m not even going to make a guess about the cost of expensive hair serums!! Geez!
How about that Thieves Cleaner? We use it for everything!!! It costs me about $0.80 to make a 32 oz. bottle of all purpose cleaner. The average cost of an all purpose cleaner in a 32 oz. bottle at your local grocery store? Somewhere in the $4.00 range.
Perspective! Let's talk I can save you money :)

I want to tell you about my new favorite way to detox – an absolutely amazing DIY face mask using apple cider vinegar and activated charcoal! I’m not talking the kind of charcoal your hubby uses on the grill, I’m talking about the kind of charcoal you can use in your everyday beauty routine! The list of things activated charcoal is good for is so long, there are even whole books about it, like this one
So you may have read about the many uses for essential oils in your personal care, cleaning routine, and more here on the blog – but like me, you may be still learning about the dozens of other products they pair well with in pursuit of DIY bliss … I mean who doesn’t love ditching toxins while saving money, right?
As women, we are constantly exposing our bodies to chemicals through our largest organ – our skin! Think of every product that touches your skin each day and what all that product contains (ingredient labels are your friend)! Are you ready for an all natural detox? Me too!
All Natural DIY Face Mask Ingredients
- 2 tsp bentonite clay
- 2 tsp activated charcoal (this absorbs thousands of times it’s own mass in harmful substances)
- 4 tsp Apple Cider Vinegar
- 2 drops Young Living Rosemary essential oil
- 2 drops Young Living Tea Tree essential oil
- 2 drops Young Living Frankincense essential oil
Mix all ingredients until smooth, smear on face, chill for 30 minutes while it hardens. You won’t be able to talk, eat, or drink – it’s okay, it’s totally normal Rinse thoroughly and pat dry. Admire your stunning, all natural glow and simply bask in feeling beautiful from the inside out!
It’s normal to experience redness afterwards because this incredibly detoxifying mask increases circulation. The redness quickly dissipates, revealing RADIANT skin in it’s place!
Cheers to coming clean and getting healthy!
