A Gift of Herbs

You're looking for a small gift for a friend to say thank you, to repay a certain kindness but you don't want to go over the top.   Here's a small gift idea you could consider next time you find yourself in the what shall I get dilemma.  I rustled this up the other day for my friend who invited me over, excited to show me her recently installed new kitchen - a few steps out into our garden to see what would best fit the occasion.

At our place we happened to have some herbs in reasonable shape  (incredible considering it's winter).  I came up with my parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme creation with a few stems of each, added a florist touch arranging them into a neat posy.  We had some ribbon I repurposed from a recent gift,  tying it loosely around the stems and voila!  It took only a few minutes and was well received.    If you have access to herbs then use whatever you have.  If not consider gifting a leafy potted herb jazzed up with ribbon or some not too fancy gift wrappng... easy to create this simple gift from a trip to your local store without breaking the bank.
I help heart-centred driven people like you think more about growing food and the idea that the gardens which surround us can be a place not only to grow food, beautiful blooms to feast our eyes on and a place to unwind from the sometimes crazy world which surrounds us.   If we grow a little in the garden, we learn a lot and grow in ourselves !   If all this growing sounds like you, well hello !  How about signing up for my blog today?

Trouble sleeping ?

Trouble sleeping ?
There are a number of healthy sleep tips floating around these days. Are you taking note with a routine to give yourself the best chance of restful quality sleep?  If not, you know, there could be some truth in them.    The best suggestion is to work through a few of these to come up with the best combination which benefits you.

Start out with the routine of going to bed at the same time each night.  We have long been told to keep all electronic devices out of the bedroom.  I hear more and more friends tell me they turn their electronic devices off (phones in particular) at a designated time each night and the difference it makes to their sleep pattern and quality of sleep.  I have my phone set to DO NOT DISTURB MODE through the designated times I set in the evening through to the morning.  Before bed I turn my phone to airplane mode to cut the signal.

Another recognised practice you could try is to do a memory dump of things on your mind…Write it out by hand… pen and paper, the old fashioned way in that last hour before bed.  This is not a to-do list for the following day but a way of releasing thoughts – get them out of the way through the night.    Spritzing the room with a lavender essential oil spritz can be a great part of your protocol contributing to a restful night.

How often do you throw away the best part of a lemon or orange ?

How often do you throw away the best part of a lemon or orange ?
OK so where's the best part of a lemon?   It's in the skin in those tiny little cells when you look up close..it's the zest. We've all been guilty of juicing a lemon and then throwing out the skin at least once in our lives

Head for fresh in the supermarket

Whether you're heading into winter or it's summer holiday time, the sure thing is you want to be at optimum health.   Rather than turning to the easier convenience processed foods, think eating a rainbow every day. Therein lies the answer as to which section of the supermarket you should head to

Eating some foods, if not all, as close to nature intended means you're on the road to better more nutritional food choices.   Buying organic is a fantastic way to go but isn't always an option. Go for it if you can.   You might be fortunate to have a friend or neighbour who grows fruit or veg and be lucky enough to score some of their home grown produce.  Now that's neighbourly!
