3 Tips on How I Decluttered My Clothing!!! | Shannon Cuddy

How do you start decluttering your clothing?  There are different theories; if you have not worn it in a year, discard.  Have goal clothing that can assist in healthier habits to motivate yourself.  Capsules wardrobes; which is mostly described as universal basics with a few trendy pieces. Or the trend of keeping what you love to wear and feel amazing in.  Truly the options of decluttering are end less and guidelines pending on your personal believes.  My suggestions is do what is right in your heart …. I follow all of they above in my way.  Here is a 3 of my personal tips I incorporated when I decluttered my clothing;

I started with a huge pile…… I took every piece of clothing and accessories ( purses, shoes, etc..) from every corner of our home and created this mound on our living room floor.  My first thought was how in the world did I get so much stuff….. “like seriously Cuddy get with the program” is what I said to myself.  I was shocked at how much I had and it was time to let it go….for good!!!  So I took a few deep breathes, applied essential oils to my temples, feet and diffuser with the intend of motivation and gratitude.  Then I dove in with passion and was ruthless… so much of this is the mindset to be able to accomplish this.

Do I even like this?  Would I buy this today?  Have I even worn this lately? ….. Way too much was a flat NOPE, Not you, and what was I thinking!!  The flip side was how picking up something I actually loved and was 100% sure on keeping….. it was about how it felt on my skin; soft and elegant.  Each item comfortable and figure flattering to me.  If I was to walk into a store would I purchase it; reason being I wanted to know that if I needed to replace this item would I replace it with a similar item now if it was too worn.

Does it have stains or holes?  Now this one seems pretty obvious right! Picking up and really looking at each item, and the actually condition became a deal breaker,,,,, I had to discard some of my treasured pieces due to this… and I have no regrets.  It assisted me in stepping up my style and making me feel polished from head to toe.  This was a huge section of what went into the garbage/ rag pile….. and honestly it was coffee and turmeric stains surprisedly no Red wine ones… I was impressed!!!

Does it even fit? My body or my style/ look? This was at the last question as I had cut down to about 1/3 of all item by this point, so now it was the true test of trying it all on and was it truly what I wanted my LOOK to be.  I am a dressy/ casual dresser daily, but for work it was either scrubs or athletic wear. ( which was subjected to the same scrutiny)  I love certain looks ….. which is hard to describe.  Will have to post more on social media full photos of myself.  Now at this point I was thrilled with what was left over to actually try on.

Working health care and wearing scrubs for over 8 years it felt like I never wore my clothing,,,, just scrubs and flannel PJ’s. By following my heart and many theories I have a wardrobe of clothes and accessories I love, wear and feel amazing in.  It reveals who I am as a person….. Thankfully without the Wine stains.  Its a what I feel is a minimal amount and easy to maintain; clean and always in good condition.  So explain to me how would you declutter your clothing?
