What My Body Taught Me About Movement

What My Body Taught Me About Movement
I used to think of exercise as a way to lose weight, burn calories or build muscle. But living in a body that doesn’t always move the way I want it to has started to shift how I see movement—and made me wonder what I might be missing when I think of it only in those terms. It’s also taught me to appreciate not only what my body can do, but how good it can feel when I give it what it needs.

More Than Answers

More Than Answers
After my last doctor's appointment, I left feeling so good.
Not because I had answers.
Not because I received good news.
Not because I walked away with a plan of action.

I left feeling good because I felt heard.

Let me say that again. I felt heard.

I went into that appointment knowing something was off, but I couldn't quite put it into words. I didn't know exactly what was wrong or how to adequately explain what I was experiencing. I simply knew that something didn't feel like me.

So, I did the best I could.
And guess what?
He listened.

He asked thoughtful questions. He didn't dismiss what I was saying or downplay my concerns. He took the time to understand before trying to respond.

He heard me.
And what a gift that is.

After I called Rob to tell him how well the appointment had gone, I found myself thinking about why it had affected me so deeply.

The truth is, I had almost cancelled the appointment.
Not because I felt better.
Not because I thought nothing was wrong.
But because I wasn't sure I could explain what I was experiencing well enough. I had convinced myself that I probably wouldn't be understood anyway.

So, when that didn't happen, something unexpected happened instead.

It restored my confidence.

Not just my confidence in the appointment.
My confidence in myself.

I realized how easily we begin to question ourselves when we don't feel understood.
We tell ourselves it's probably nothing.
We wonder if we're overreacting.
We decide to wait a little longer.

Little by little, we stop trusting what we've been noticing all along.

That appointment reminded me that I do know my own body. I know when something feels different, even if I can't fully explain why.

It also reminded me that I don't have all the answers before asking for help.

I simply need someone willing to listen.
Someone willing to ask another question.
Someone willing to work with me instead of assuming they already knew the answer.

That's what partnership looks like.
I bring my experience.
My healthcare provider brings knowledge and perspective.
Together, we look for answers.

Sometimes the hardest part isn't noticing that something has changed.
It's trusting what you've been noticing all along.

When someone truly listens, something begins to shift.
You stop wondering if you're imagining things.
You stop apologizing for speaking up.
You stop feeling like you have to justify every concern before you're allowed to ask for help.

You begin to trust yourself again.

And with that trust comes something we all need when life feels uncertain.

Hope.

If you've ever questioned yourself because you couldn't find the right words...
If you've ever wondered whether you were overreacting...
If you've ever thought about cancelling an appointment because you didn't think anyone would understand...

I hope you'll remember this.

You don't need to have all the answers before asking for help.
You don't need to know exactly what's wrong before your concerns deserve to be heard.

The right people won't expect you to have everything figured out.
They'll listen.
They'll ask questions.
They'll work alongside you as you search for answers together.

Sometimes that's more valuable than having all the answers.
Because somewhere in that process, something unexpected can happen.

You begin to trust yourself again. And sometimes...that's exactly where hope begins.

Thanks for spending a little time with me today.

Wellness doesn’t have to be about fixing yourself. It can start with learning to listen, getting curious, and discovering what support looks like for you.

Quieting the Noise: How a 14-Day Reset Helped Me Hear My Body Again

Quieting the Noise: How a 14-Day Reset Helped Me Hear My Body Again
Sometimes we already know what helps us feel better—we’ve just fallen out of the habit of doing it. My 14-Day Reset wasn’t about deprivation or doing everything perfectly. It was about adding something good in, paying attention, and finding my way back to the things I already knew helped me feel more like myself.

Our Bodies Whisper Before They Shout

Our Bodies Whisper Before They Shout
Have you ever reached the bottom of a page only to realize you have no idea what you just read? Or found yourself asking someone to repeat what they just said because your mind wandered for a moment? What if those ordinary moments aren't something to criticize—but gentle whispers from your body asking for your attention? Love Your Body Where It Is Today

Love Your Body Where It Is Today
Some victories don't look extraordinary—they look like making the bed, washing the dishes, or simply finding the strength to get through the day. Over time, I've learned that wellness isn't about comparing my body to who I used to be or who I think I should become. It's about appreciating the body that carries me today. In this week's blog, I'm sharing how shifting from criticism to gratitude has changed my relationship with my body—and how it might change yours too.

Your Body Has Been Trying to Tell You Something

Your Body Has Been Trying to Tell You Something
What if your body isn't working against you...what if it's trying to help you?

For years, I thought my body was something I had to fight. But living with MS has taught me a different perspective: our bodies usually whisper before they shout.
In this week's blog, I'm sharing the lessons I've learned about recognizing those whispers, supporting my body instead of battling it, and why our challenges may be different, but our bodies all speak the same language.

The question isn't whether your body is communicating. The question is whether you're willing to listen.

Learning to Rest Without Feeling Guilty

Learning to Rest Without Feeling Guilty
One of the hardest parts of living with a chronic illness isn't always the symptoms.
Sometimes it's the guilt.
The guilt of saying no to something you desperately wanted to do. The guilt of wondering what life might look like if your body worked differently. And the guilt of resting when the world tells you to keep pushing.
In this week's blog, I share what Multiple Sclerosis has taught me about rest, why I've started scheduling it on purpose, and how that one small change is helping me enjoy life more—not less.

What Acceptance Really Looks Like

What Acceptance Really Looks Like
When people talk about acceptance, they often imagine reaching a place where you’re completely at peace with everything that has happened.

I have learned that acceptance is much messier than that.

Acceptance isn’t a destination you arrive at once and for all. It often shifts from day to day, asking us to make room for uncertainty, change, and emotions that don’t always fit neatly together. It’s learning how to carry both grief and gratitude at the same time.

In this week’s blog, I’m sharing some of the realities of living with chronic illness, the unexpected lessons it has taught me, and why acceptance looks very different than I once imagined.

Meet Lynn Dehmlow

For years, I searched for ways to find better health, believing I needed to fix what was wrong. Along the way, I discovered something unexpected: my body wasn’t working against me—it was communicating with me.

That realization didn’t change my health overnight—but it completely changed my relationship with my body.

Instead of chasing perfection, I began learning to listen, respond with curiosity, and care for my body one small step at a time.

Today, I share what I’ve learned to encourage others who want a simpler, more compassionate approach to wellness. I’m still learning every day (it turns out my body doesn’t always read my to-do list!), but my hope is to help you build a trusting relationship with your body—because life is challenging enough without arguing with the one thing that’s been with you since day one.
