From my heart today, I know there is so much stress and anxiety and struggle going on in so many of your lives today.  It seems there are numerous amounts of people that are all under such heavy emotional turmoil.  I have been helping with the care of my elderly mother more than my normal once a week visit that I have done for almost 30 years.  After a recent fall from her not holding on to a solid surface while cooking, we are now in the depths of full time care for her.  I feel like I am a natural caregiver, but I have to fully admit that this has completely thrown me for a loop, a loop I feel has taxed me beyond what I knew was possible.  The atrophy that has set in with my 94 year old mom and the loss of her memory, not just from her age but her recent surgery from her fall has created situations in caring for her that are sometimes unmanageable for the best of us.  For years I have done respite care for the elderly part time just because I love it, but I will say that when it is your own loved one, it is very different and has challenged me in ways that I never expected.   My adrenals have been taxed since I was widowed many years ago when I was 28 with three small kids.  The first of many losses and traumas.  But since then, I have learned many ways to combat the overwhelming stresses of life, loss, grief, and trauma.  I will share three of the ways that have best helped me but also the current challenge is one that gives me an even greater sense of compassion for those who care for their loved ones full-time and many on their own.  It is something I thought I was well versed in and yet I am finding that I have had just a small glance into the life of caring for a loved one full time and the toll it takes on your mind, your body and your family.   In the video below, I talk about the difficulties of Caregiving and the toll it takes, and the ways I and my family have worked through past trauma, stress and PTSD.

I have learned in recent years to keep your phone away from where you sleep.  I keep my phone in the hall where I can still hear it but when I have fallen asleep with my phone in my room, I have noticed sleeplessness, irritability and anxiousness especially when I am trying to sleep.  Then, when I take my phone back out and have it away from my brain and my body while I am trying to sleep, I find that I fall asleep right away, and sleep soundly without interruptions.  It was an accidental experiment, even though I knew cell phone radiation was not good for the body, I gave the excuse to myself that I needed the alarm to wake me up in the morning.  When I started having major issues sleeping without restlessness through the night, where I had never had that before, I decided to purchase a good old fashioned alarm clock without any type of internet connection to it, and put my phone in the hall while we slept.  I was incredibly surprised to find that I fell asleep quickly and no longer experienced restlessness or brain disfunction while sleeping.  Its especially important to keep your phones away from your children and babies.  Kids absorb 46% more radiation than adults and can cause focus problems, anxiety, irritability and behavioral issues.  

I encourage you to try the above methods daily to help whatever stresses and anxieties you are facing right now.  Healing is always a choice, and a powerful message to those around you that you value your time, your life, and you make your health a priority!
