Empowering the Visually Impaired

When we think of a white cane, we often associate it with total blindness. However, the white cane is a versatile tool that offers independence and mobility not just to those who are completely blind, but also to individuals with varying degrees of visual impairment.

The Versatility of the White Cane
The white cane is a symbol of independence for many visually impaired people. It serves as a mobility aid, helping users navigate their surroundings safely and confidently. For those with partial vision, the white cane provides crucial tactile feedback about the environment, such as detecting obstacles or changes in terrain. This enhances their ability to move around independently, reducing reliance on others.

Breaking Stereotypes
It's important to challenge the misconception that only totally blind individuals use white canes. Many people with partial vision loss also benefit from using a cane. Conditions such as optic nerve degeneration, macular degeneration, glaucoma, or diabetic retinopathy can significantly impair vision, making a cane an essential tool for safety and freedom. By understanding and accepting that the white cane serves a broad spectrum of visual impairments, we can foster a more inclusive and supportive society.

Benefits Beyond Navigation
For visually impaired people, the white cane is not just a navigation tool. It acts as a signal to others that the user has a visual impairment, prompting more awareness and consideration in public spaces. This can lead to increased safety and accessibility, as people are more likely to offer assistance or take care to avoid obstacles.

Encouraging Acceptance and Use
Promoting the use of the white cane among those with partial vision loss can significantly enhance their quality of life. It's crucial to create an environment where visually impaired individuals feel comfortable using a cane without fear of stigma or misunderstanding. Education and awareness campaigns can play a key role in normalizing the use of white canes for all degrees of visual impairment.

My Thoughts
This is something I'm going to work on more people knowing. I personally use a white can when I fly by myself to get more assistance transferring planes. Some of the airlines have better training on how to react to people like me than other airlines. Even though I can see somewhat, I’m not able to read the signs in the airports. Plus, if I go somewhere I’ve never been there might be steps or different terrain that I’m not aware of and use it for that. Most people are so confused as to how to react to me if I have a cane and they realize I can see. One goal is to change this.

Conclusion
The white cane is a powerful tool for independence and mobility, benefiting not only those who are completely blind but also individuals with partial vision loss. By recognizing its value and encouraging its use, we can support the visually impaired community in leading safer, more independent lives.

Confidence is not “they will like me”

Confidence is not “they will like me” Confidence is “I will be fine if they don’t.”

This is not going to be like my other blogs. This is going to be more of a blog from the heart. I want to give you a tool kit to help you with the battles of the world. Lately I’ve been asked “how did you get to where you are now" and “what do you stand for?”

Let me start first with what I stand for. There are many parts here and I probably won’t go into all of them in this blog, but here are a few. Believing God has a plan for me, leads to believing that there is a way I can have an impact. I can start serving again with confidence and kindness. Meaning I want to make sure there is laughter and positivity.

The reason I’m working on empowering women to take charge of their self esteem even if they don’t believe in themselves, is because I don’t want you/them to wind up like me not remembering a week or so of their life. Our mind has a way of blocking things out to protect us.

I will not be part of rudeness, bullying, harassment, or discrimination.

But anyways, here are the first 4 items that are in my tool kit:
  1. Some friends were there for me no matter what.
  2. Started using some oils that I found out helped my emotions, among other things. Stress Away and Peace and Calming do exactly what their name says. Any of the citrus ones are uplifting. When I diffuse lemon, lavender and peppermint my nose doesn’t feel stuffy.
  3. Participated in a program called the 11 Day Jumpstart. Which I didn’t want to do at first, but am very thankful because it was a complete life changer. Altogether I’ve lost 35 lbs on the program. Gained confidence and authentic friends. Able to run up my stairs with out being out of breath.  Ningxia Red Juice
  4. Then I listened to some books on audible.
    • Thriving with Anxiety -  https://amzn.to/3yJN4s9 This book talks about facing your fears. It is part of what helped me fly to Oregon over Christmas. I HAD a fear of flying, but that time I looked out the window while taking off and landing. The 2 times I would shake with anxiety before.
    • Home Based Revolution - https://amzn.to/3KvyxmA Martha created the 11 Day Jumpstart so that is why I first listened to this book. She has multiple programs that I wanted to learn more and be able to travel more later.
    • Take Control of Your Life with Mel Robbins - https://amzn.to/4bLZH4H

The point is I want you to have access to some things that may benefit you. Here is another checklist that will help you with some confidence boost ideas.

Self-Reflection for Busy Moms: Gaining Insights

Balancing your family's needs while managing your own challenges can be overwhelming. Finding time for self-reflection might seem impossible, but it can truly change how you see yourself and your experiences. You won't know where you need to go if you don't know where you are coming from.

Why Self-Reflection Matters
Self-reflection helps you understand your thoughts, feelings, and actions. For busy moms, it can provide clarity, reduce stress, and help you connect with your true self. And sometimes what you have thought of who you are isn't who you really want to be.

How to Reflect Effectively
  1. Find a Quiet Moment: Set aside a few minutes each day, even if it’s just after the kids go to bed. This is your time to focus on yourself without any distractions. If nothing else I do it for a longer time on Sunday evenings.
  2. Ask Important Questions: Think about questions that make you reflect deeply. For example, "What challenges did I face today?" or "What moments made me feel proud?"
  3. Write It Down: Keeping a journal can help you process your emotions and see patterns in your experiences. Over time, you'll notice recurring themes that can guide your personal growth.
  4. Celebrate Small WinsAcknowledge and celebrate even your smallest victories. This helps build a positive mindset and reinforces your progress. I may do this with coffee, I just don't do it with food anymore.
  5. Be Kind to Yourself: Self-reflection should be a judgment-free activity. Approach your thoughts and feelings with kindness and understanding, knowing that every experience helps you grow.
Learning from Your Experiences
By reflecting on your experiences, you’ll gain insights into your strengths and areas for improvement. This process helps you make better decisions, set realistic goals, and manage your responsibilities more effectively. You’ll start to see your unique talents more clearly, which will boost your confidence and self-esteem.

Self-reflection is a powerful tool for self-improvement. By dedicating time to this practice, you’ll unlock new levels of self-awareness and resilience, helping you handle life’s challenges with grace and confidence.

How to Use Positive Affirmations to Change Your Mindset

Are you ready to engage the power of positive affirmations and transform your mindset? Affirmations are simple yet powerful statements that can help you reshape your thoughts, boost your confidence, and create a more positive outlook on life. Let’s dive into how these little gems can make a big impact. I’ve talked ALOT about this lately because being positive, present, and personal is one of the best ways for our minds to be in the right space. And mindset is a HUGE factor in your health, weight, happiness, etc

Why Affirmations Work
Our minds are incredibly powerful. The thoughts we think and the words we speak have a profound impact on our beliefs and actions. Positive affirmations work by reprogramming your subconscious mind to focus on the good rather than the negative. By repeating affirmations regularly, we can shift our mindset, reduce stress, and build resilience.

Starting Your Affirmation Journey
1. Identify Your Needs: Reflect on areas in your life where you need a boost. Is it confidence, motivation, or self-love? Customize your affirmations to address these needs.
2.  Keep It Positive: Focus: on what you want to achieve, not what you want to avoid. Instead of saying, “I am not anxious,” say, “I am calm and in control.”
3. Make It Present: Phrase your affirmations as if they are already true. This helps your mind start to believe and manifest them in reality. For example, “I am strong and capable.”

Daily Affirmation Practice
Include affirmations into your daily routine for maximum impact. Here’s how:
  • Morning RoutineStart your day with affirmations to set a positive tone. While getting ready, look in the mirror and repeat your affirmations with conviction.
  • Mindful Moments: Throughout the day, take short breaks to recite your affirmations. This can be during a coffee break, while walking, or even during your commute.
  • Evening Reflection: End your day by reflecting on your affirmations. Write them in a journal and acknowledge the positive steps you’ve taken.
Transform Your Mindset
Positive affirmations are a powerful tool to develop a resilient and optimistic mindset. By making affirmations a part of your daily life, you can overcome self-doubt, embrace your strengths, and navigate life’s challenges with confidence.

So, empowered women, let’s harness the power of positive affirmations and change our mindset. Start today, and watch how these simple statements can bring profound changes to your life.

Empowering Moms: Mental Health Compassion

In the beautiful chaos of motherhood, it's easy to prioritize everyone else's well-being above our own. Yet, amidst the daily hustle, it's crucial to pause and acknowledge the importance of our mental health. Understanding common mental health conditions is not just about awareness; it's about equipping ourselves with the knowledge and compassion needed to navigate our own journeys and support those around us.

Anxiety: Unraveling the Knots of Worry
Anxiety can often feel like a constant companion, tightening its grip on our hearts as we try to balance the demands of motherhood with our own inner struggles. Whether it's the relentless worry, the racing thoughts, or the overwhelming sense of dread, anxiety can leave us feeling trapped. But by understanding its details and learning coping strategies, we can begin to untangle the knots of worry and reclaim a sense of peace within ourselves.

Depression: Finding Light in the Darkness
Depression is not simply feeling sad; it's like navigating through a thick fog that clouds our minds and weighs down our spirits. For me it also looked like wanting to lay on the couch and do nothing and sleep.  As overcommitted moms, the pressure to appear strong and capable can sometimes exacerbate these feelings of emptiness and despair. But by recognizing the signs and reaching out for support, we can start to find glimpses of light in the darkness and take the first steps towards healing.

Self-Care: Nurturing Our Inner Garden
In the midst of our busy schedules and endless to-do lists, self-care often takes a backseat. Yet, just as we tend to the needs of our children, so too must we nurture our own well-being. Whether it's carving out moments of solitude, engaging in activities that bring us joy, or seeking professional help when needed, prioritizing self-care is essential for maintaining our mental health and resilience.

Here is a self care guide to help you. Or join my community where we all support each other.
