CAR CARE KIT & 3 DIY ALL NATURAL CLEANERS {GREAT GIFT FOR GUYS!}
This year I came up with a great gift idea that I am going to pair with a couple of coupons from the boys {wha, ha ha!} for a car wash:  a Fathers’ Day car care kit!

I am going to share my DIY all natural cleaner recipes and some before/after shots in just a minute, but let’s talk about what is inside the car care kit. I hit my local dollar store for some of the basics:
  • A blue plastic basket that will hold the contents of the kit
  • Reusable cleaning wipes
  • Chamois cloths
  • A glass shaker {In the kitchen goods section}
  • Two 28 oz. plastic spray bottles
Since I have been using my Young Living essential oils, I keep looking for ways to replace commercial products with more natural versions.  So, I made 3 DIY all natural cleaners to fill the car care kit:  carpet freshener, glass cleaner and an all-purpose cleaner.  Then, I gave them a whirl and cleaned my SUV one afternoon.

First up, my poor carpets that take a beating from boots and dirt almost every day!

DIY Carpet Freshener
In a bowl, stir together 15 drops of essential oil with 1 cup baking soda.  I used a combination of Lemon and Peppermint; you can use Lavender or Thieves or your favorite essential oils.  Transfer it into your shaker jar and replace the lid.  You can use this in your home or vehicle.  I sprinkled my carpet freshener all over the carpet in my SUV while I cleaned the rest of it (let it sit at least 15 minutes), then I just vacuumed it up.
After I sprinkled on the carpet freshener, I cleaned the windows with my DIY lemon-y glass cleaner.

DIY All Natural Glass Cleaner
Add 20 drops of lemon essential oil to a 28 oz. spray bottle.  Adding the oils before any other ingredients allows them to blend better rather than just sit on top of the water.  Add 8 oz. of white vinegar and fill the bottle the rest of the way with distilled water.  Replace the sprayer and shake to combine.  I also noticed some wicked fingerprints on our glass storm door.  So, does it work?  Sure does!  Got rid of those fingerprints and smudges from my grubby boys in a flash!

And don’t worry, the vinegar scent dissipates quickly.  So, carpet freshened, windows cleaned … now to tackle the rest of the car!

DIY All-Purpose Thieves Cleaner
I also whipped up an all-purpose Thieves cleaner that can be used all over your car and home.  This can be used on floors, counters, around pet areas, in the bathroom, to wipe down door handles and appliances, etc.  I really did mean all-purpose 🙂
To make this all-purpose cleaner, add 1 drop of Thieves per ounce of distilled water.  So, I added 28 drops in my bottle and then filled the bottle with distilled water.  I cleaned the interior of my car doors, elbow rest, the rims of my tires, my dash and pretty much everything else I could wipe down.  Yes, I know I probably needed to clean my car WAY before this point.  What?  You don’t have a slightly fuzzy dashboard?  Just keeping it real …

Can we talk about Thieves essential oil for a minute?  It is one of my top 5 essential oils – it is SO versatile!  When anyone is feeling a little under the weather, I diffuse it to kill airborne germs and freshen the air.  It smells pretty amazing so I absolutely LOVE to use it to clean around our home – plus, I know it is safe for our cats and kids!

I can’t wait to give this to Hubby and put the boys to work spoil him for Fathers’ Day this year!!
