Nourishing Your Body: A Beginner's Guide to Nutrition | Sherri Capps

At this point I don't count macros I just focus more on what I'm eating, making sure it is actual food. But this is alot of good information to know, if at some point you want to focus on what you are eating and count your macros. I've found this can be helpful when working on strength training as well.

Nutrition forms the foundation of our health and well-being, yet navigating the complexities of macronutrients and micronutrients can feel overwhelming. For women striving to prioritize their health amidst busy schedules, understanding the basics of nutrition is essential.

At its core, nutrition is about fueling our bodies with the nutrients they need to thrive. These nutrients come in two main categories: macronutrients and micronutrients.

Macronutrients are the essential building blocks of our diet, providing us with energy and supporting various bodily functions. They include carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. Carbohydrates are our body's primary source of energy, found in foods like grains, fruits, and vegetables. Proteins are crucial for building and repairing tissues, found in foods like meat, fish, beans, and dairy products. Fats are essential for hormone production, cell membrane function, and nutrient absorption, found in foods like avocados, nuts, seeds, and oils.
Micronutrients, on the other hand, are the vitamins and minerals that our bodies need in smaller amounts but are equally vital for overall health. They play key roles in immune function, metabolism, and numerous physiological processes.

Micronutrients include vitamins such as vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamin D, as well as minerals such as calcium, iron, and magnesium. These micronutrients are found in a variety of foods, including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins.

By understanding the importance of both macronutrients and micronutrients, we can make informed choices about our diet and ensure that we're providing our bodies with the essential nutrients they need to thrive. Whether it's choosing nutrient-dense foods, balancing our macronutrient intake, or supplementing with vitamins and minerals as needed, prioritizing nutrition is a powerful way to support our overall health and well-being.
