Strength for the Body You’re In

Have you ever caught yourself wishing your body could do what it used to—or comparing it to what others seem to manage so easily? Oh goodness, friend, I am meeting you there wholeheartedly. It’s a space that can feel lonely and heavy—often pushing us to try harder to get back to a body that once was. In tender seasons, our bodies can start to feel like another thing to “figure out.”

I’ve learned (sometimes the hard way) that strength doesn’t always look like pushing through. Often, it looks like listening, slowing down, and offering ourselves grace right where we are. And it is not easy....

In seasons of healing, transition, pregnancy, new mom life, hormone shifts, or chronic discomfort, it can feel deeply frustrating when your body doesn’t respond the way it once did. But here’s the gentle truth I keep coming back to: the body you’re in today is worthy of care, patience, and compassion. Strength grows when we stop fighting our bodies and start supporting them—one small, loving choice at a time. Right?

One Joy Tip: Support, Don’t Punish

Instead of trying to “fix” your body, ask a different question:
What does my body need right now?

For me, shifting to only veggies, fruits, and lean proteins helps my body reset. It also looks like taking pauses for rest when my body says, “please stop,” instead of pushing through another task.

For you, it might look like more hydration, gentler movement, deeper rest, or simplifying what’s on your plate—physically and emotionally. These small acts of care can become powerful invitations for joy. Trust me!

Scripture to Hold for Joy

Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.
1 John 3:18

Joy for the Journey

Strength doesn’t come from forcing your body to keep up or speaking harsh words over your body—it grows when you care for the body you’re in with grace. After my recent knee surgery, I found myself frustrated when I couldn’t complete simple PT exercises. I caught myself in that moment and chose a different response.

I began speaking life over my healing:
“You’re doing so well. I know you are still hurting and healing right now. God created you to heal naturally. I will take care of you. Heal at your own pace.”

Go ahead and try it on yourself.
Joy has a way of meeting us when we choose kindness over criticism.
