🌿 Your Nervous System Needs a Hug: Finding Calm in the Chaos
If your brain’s been acting like a browser with 37 tabs open — and one of them’s playing mystery music — you’re not alone.
Between the seasonal rush, emotional ups and downs, and everything pulling at your attention, it’s easy to feel like “calm” is something only other people find on Pinterest.
But here’s the thing: calm isn’t a luxury. It’s the secret ingredient to feeling like yourself again — and it’s 100% available to you, even if you’re currently stress-eating leftover Halloween candy and wondering why the dog is barking at absolutely nothing.
When Your Body Thinks the World Is on Fire
You know that feeling when you’re exhausted but can’t rest? Or when you drop your phone, spill your coffee, and suddenly feel like crying over the spilled creamer? (Been there. Multiple times.)
That’s not you being dramatic — that’s your nervous system waving a little white flag.
Our bodies are built to protect us. But when stress, noise, and constant “go mode” become the norm, your body forgets what “off” feels like. It stays in high alert — the “fight, flight, or freeze” zone — even when the “threat” is just your inbox, group text, or family chat about Thanksgiving plans.
And when that tension lingers too long, it drains your energy, patience, and joy faster than a phone running on 2% battery with no charger in sight.
The Power of Pause
Here’s the good news: you don’t need a weeklong mountain retreat or a magic mantra to feel better (though if someone’s offering either, sign me up).
Calm comes from small, repeatable pauses — the kind that remind your body: “Hey, we’re okay. You can chill now.”
Try this:
- Step outside, feel the air, and take three deep breaths.
- Diffuse a grounding oil or rub a drop between your palms — bonus points if you take a slow inhale and don’t immediately check your phone.
- Write down three things you’re grateful for — even if one of them is “coffee exists.”
- Press your feet into the floor and remind yourself the earth is holding you up (and she’s never dropped anyone yet).
They may seem simple, but these tiny pauses rewire your stress response over time. You’re teaching your body what safety feels like again — one deep breath at a time.
Why I Love Tapping (and Why You Might, Too)
One of my favorite calm-restoring tools is Emotional Freedom Technique, or Tapping.
It’s basically emotional acupressure — you gently tap on specific points on your face and body while voicing what you’re feeling. (And yes, it looks a little funny at first. My kids have definitely walked in mid-tapping and backed out slowly.)
But here’s the wild part: it works.
Tapping helps regulate your nervous system, release tension, and bring your mind back to the present — all without fancy equipment, supplements, or hiding in your car for a 10-minute “quiet break.”
When I pair tapping with essential oils that support emotional balance, it feels like a deep exhale for my whole system — simple, natural, and surprisingly powerful.
A Little Calm Goes a Long Way
You don’t need to wait for “the perfect moment” to take care of yourself — spoiler alert: that moment doesn’t exist.
You just need small, consistent acts of calm that whisper to your body, “We’re safe now.”
As we roll into the holiday season (aka the Olympics of overstimulation), let’s choose peace — or at least a few deep breaths before the chaos begins.
Your nervous system doesn’t need perfection. It just needs a hug… and maybe a cup of tea.
Join Me This Month
If your body’s been craving calm (or you just want a solid excuse to leave the to-do list for an hour), join me on Sunday, November 30 at 4 PM for a special Emotional Freedom Tapping + Guided Meditation Class at Wildflower Yoga.
We’ll tap, breathe, and reset together and then do a guided meditation — so you can head into December feeling grounded instead of frazzled. 🌿

Next Monday, I’ll be sharing some of my favorite emotional reset tools you can do anywhere — no yoga mat (or stretchy pants) required.
Until then, unclench your jaw, drop your shoulders, and remember calm isn’t something you find — it’s something you practice. 💚
Repeat these positive affirmations to yourself...
* I am resilient and can overcome life's challenges.
* I am strong and have the power to make the right choices for me.
* I am grateful for what I can do.
