When it comes to energy where would you rate yourself on a scale of 1 to 10?

We've all had days where we feel like we can't keep our eyes open, no matter how much coffee, Red Bull or 5-hour energy we consume. It's a common struggle to stay alert and energized throughout the day, especially when you're juggling multiple tasks and days are unpredictable and filled with stress. If you’re looking for some real good energy all day here are some simple things you can start doing on a daily basis to make sure that your body gets what it needs to function well.

#1 Just Add Water
Our bodies are composed mainly of water (around 70%), so it stands to reason that staying hydrated is a major plus in the health department. Hydrating helps us maintain good energy levels throughout the day. Make sure that you're drinking enough water - even if you don't feel thirsty - in order to keep your energy up! Aiming for 8 glasses of water a day is a good benchmark. To make sure that you reach this goal easily, try keeping a reusable bottle on hand at all times or setting small reminders throughout the day to take a sip of water every now and then!  Not too fond of plain water? Skip chemical filled drops and flavor additives and reach for real lemon or toss in a few cut strawberries or cucumber. You can even add food grade essential oils like lemon, orange or lime. This will make drinking, much needed, water a pleasure.

#2 Get Up and Get Going
Exercise increases the amount of oxygen going into our bodies. Good oxygen means more energy! Don't worry, you don't need to go to the gym. It can be as simple as getting up and going for a walk.  Just 30 minutes of walking significantly increases oxygen levels in the body. Increased oxygen levels means that your brain is getting more oxygen, which helps balance emotions and enhances mental function and memory capacity. Elevated oxygen levels in the brain helps with overall mood and happiness ... and when you're happy, you naturally have more energy and increased cognitive ability. Check out this video for more details on walking.

#3 Take A Break!
Taking regular breaks allows our brains and bodies to reset themselves; this is especially true when it comes to managing our energy levels throughout the day. Try setting aside 10 minutes every few hours where you can relax and recharge. This could be anything from stretching or taking a walk outside to reading or closing your eyes for a moment. If you can, put your face in the sun and allow all of that natural vitamin D to recharge your energy.

#4 You Are What Your Eat
Food is fuel for our bodies, so it's important to fill up on nutritious snacks and meals throughout the day. Eating healthy foods will give your body the nourishment it needs to stay energized. Focus on incorporating fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins into your diet as much as possible. It’s also wise to limit sugary snacks and drinks during the day; while they may provide a short burst of energy initially, their effects aren't long lasting. #5 Make the Most of Your Sleep
When we get between 7-9 hours of sleep per night, the body goes through a restoration process. Everything you thought about during the day and all the emotions you experienced are able to be processed while you sleep. Our brain needs sleep to be at its best for a full day of going and doing. Even the muscles in our body and our skeletal structure benefit from several quality ours of laying horizontal. Plus, food is digested and all the wonderful metabolic functions that our bodies are so good at doing just keep on going while we sleep.

If you can't get 7-9 hours, make the most of your sleep by encouraging good deep sleep.
