Why Personal Branding Matters (Even If You Don’t Think You Have One)
Most Brand Partners don’t wake up thinking, “I need to work on my visual branding today.” But whether you realize it or not, your brand is already speaking for you—every time someone lands on your website, sees your name in their inbox, or scrolls past your social post. The question isn’t whether you have a brand. It’s whether the one you have is working for you.
Good branding doesn’t mean flashy logos or complicated color schemes. It means consistency. It means recognizability. And most importantly, it means trust. When someone sees the same colors, fonts, and voice across everything you do, it tells them: this person is reliable. I know what to expect from them. I feel comfortable here.
And that trust? That’s what leads to connection—and eventually, conversion.
What Is Visual Branding, Really?
Your visual brand is the look and feel of everything you share—from your homepage to your blog to your social posts. And when it’s consistent, it becomes a shortcut to recognition. It helps people know they’re in the right place. It makes your message easier to follow. And it helps them focus on what you have to say.
Here’s what that looks like in real life:
- Using the same 2–3 brand colors everywhere: your site, your posts, your emails.
- Choosing 1–2 easy-to-read fonts and sticking with them.
- Adding your name or logo to everything you create.
- Using the same profile image or headshot across platforms.
You don’t need a fancy graphic designer or expensive tools. Just a little planning and the right tools inside GetOiling and Canva will take you far.
Where to Start: Less Is More
Design can feel intimidating when you think it has to look “professional.” But here’s the truth: most people prefer clean and simple over fancy and complex. Your goal isn’t to win design awards—it’s to create clarity. Your design should support your message, not distract from it.
Some best practices to keep in mind:
- Use whitespace. Don’t crowd your pages or graphics with too much text or too many images.
- Stick to your brand colors. Don’t mix in random new shades just because they look pretty.
- Keep animations and extra design elements minimal. They often hurt more than they help.
- Make sure your copy stands out. This is what drives action, not the color of your button.
Consistency beats creativity here. Focus on making your content easy to read, visually congruent, and recognizable across platforms.
The Tools We Recommend
You only need two tools to start designing like a pro (without being one):
- GetOiling: Your all-in-one platform for landing pages, blog posts, email campaigns, and more. Some plan levels include branding features like saved colors and fonts—if yours does, use it!
- Canva: The free version works, but the paid version is a game changer. It gives you brand kits, saved fonts, and powerful design templates you can reuse for everything you create.
Together, these tools help you bring your brand to life—without spending hours or hiring help. If you have serious goals for your Young Living business, we highly recommend upgrading to Canva Pro to streamline your design process.
Design Basics: Do’s and Don’ts
Here are a few quick-start rules to help you avoid common design pitfalls:
- DO choose a readable body font—nothing too curly or narrow.
- DO keep headings bold and easy to scan.
- DO use the same layout across your pages and emails.
- DON’T use more than three fonts on a single page or post.
- DON’T center-align long paragraphs (makes them harder to read).
- DON’T mix too many colors in your designs—it creates chaos, not harmony.
And remember: your design should reflect your voice. If your brand is calm and nurturing, don’t use loud neon colors. If it’s bold and energetic, don’t pick a super minimal beige theme. Show up as you—but show up consistently.
Where to Apply Your Branding in GetOiling
Once your visual brand elements are defined, it’s time to put them to work. GetOiling makes it simple to apply your branding across your content, helping you show up consistently wherever your audience connects with you.
Here are a few places to add your new visual style:
- Website Header and Footer: Add your logo and use brand colors for text and background accents.
- Custom Pages: Create page templates using your fonts and color palette. Save and reuse these layouts!
- Email Campaigns: Use headers and buttons that match your brand (optional, but builds congruency).
- Landing Pages + Lead Forms on Pages: Make sure your design aligns with the rest of your online presence.
- Blog Graphics: Create templates in Canva for featured images then upload them to GetOiling with your posts.
- Social Media: Use your brand visuals in Canva-created posts to keep your grid or feed cohesive.
Think of every new blog post, page, or email as a new opportunity to reinforce your identity. Done consistently, this makes a powerful impression on your audience—even if you’re not saying anything “new.”
Creating Your Logo (Even If You’re Not a Designer)
You don’t need a fancy logo to build a strong brand. In fact, your logo can be as simple as your name in a signature font with a color background. Canva has templates for exactly this.
Here’s how to create yours in just a few minutes:
- Open Canva and create a new design (we recommend 200x600 pixels)
- Choose a template that matches your style.
- Replace the placeholder with your name or business name.
- Change the font and colors to reflect your brand
- Download (we recommend saving as .png with a transparent background)
- Upload your new logo to your GetOiling site using Customize My Site
That’s it! You now have a visual anchor for everything you create—one more way to stand out and stay top of mind.
Live Design Demo: Bringing It All Together
This week’s session included a live demo where we showed how to apply all of these concepts in real time. Whether you’re brand new or more advanced, we covered questions and examples relevant to where you are now.
In the demo, we walked through:
- Uploading brand colors and fonts to GetOiling (where your plan allows).
- Creating and customizing a logo in Canva.
- Adding your logo to your site and emails.
If you missed the live session, you can watch the full replay below and follow along at your own pace.
Ready to Practice? Here’s What to Do Next
Once you’ve created your visual brand elements, take these steps to begin using them across your business:
- Add your logo to your GetOiling site.
- Choose a clean layout and use consistent colors and fonts on each page.
- Create or update one blog post with your new brand graphics.
- Use Canva to create a post header, email image, or social promo with your new style.
Start small. You don’t have to redo everything overnight. Just pick one project and apply your brand there. Then keep going from there.
Design Is a Skill—But Also a System
You don’t have to be naturally “creative” to create a strong brand presence. What you need is a system. Set your colors. Choose your fonts. Create templates you can use again and again. The more you repeat them, the easier it becomes—and the stronger your brand grows.
Remember, your audience doesn’t expect you to be a designer. They just want to feel like they’re in the right place. Your job is to make that place easy to recognize and easy to trust.
🚀 Work Smarter, Not Harder
You don’t need to spend hours fiddling with layouts or color palettes. You don’t need to create new assets for every single post. Instead, create once and reuse—with intention. That’s how you save time, show up consistently, and grow a brand that works.
