Loving Your Body When It Feels Like It’s Fighting You

Loving Your Body When It Feels Like It’s Fighting You

Have you ever felt frustrated with your body—like it’s slowing you down, holding you back, or not cooperating the way it used to? I’ve got you, friend.

When your body is in pain, changing, or healing, it can begin to feel like an adversary instead of a home. I’ve walked alongside so many women who feel disconnected from their bodies, and I’ve lived this personally too. When symptoms linger or limitations stack up, it’s easy to slip into resentment or self-criticism without even realizing it. It becomes a daily dialogue we repeat to ourselves—and eventually, we begin to believe it as truth.

But over time, I’ve learned something important: a body that feels like it’s “fighting you” is often a body asking for compassion. It took me a long time to realize I was extending compassion to everyone else, but not to myself. That mindset shift was significant—and honestly, it’s something I still practice daily so I don’t slip back into old patterns of thinking. Healing bodies don’t need punishment or pressure; they need patience, gentleness, and trust. Loving your body in this season may look very different than it once did, and that’s okay.

One Joy Tip

Shift from controlling your body to caring for it.
Instead of asking, “Why isn’t my body working?” try asking, “What does my body need to feel supported today?” That small shift can soften frustration and open the door to cooperation instead of conflict. This week, I wrote that question in my planner as a reminder to be compassionate with my healing (and changing) body—and it made me smile.

Scripture to Hold for Joy

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done.”
— Philippians 4:6

Joy for the Journey

Your body is not the enemy. It is doing the best it can in this season—and it is worthy of care, kindness, and grace.
