Emotional Granularity is the ability to identify what emotion(s) we are feeling at any given time. The closer we can get to naming the emotion(s), the better we will be able to process them and move forward.
I like to explain the difference between an emotion word, and a judgement word, by asking yourself how you would FEEL if someone else told you that you felt/were ____.
I/E:
- “You are insignificant/hated/unworthy” is a judgement, because it feels bad.
Versus:
- “You are/look angry/sad/upset/afraid…” This is an emotion, because it feels like the other person sees and understands you.
If you are having a hard time finding the emotion behind the judgement word, please ask yourself how you would FEEL if someone said it to you.
Here is an example from the Bible of someone who felt very down and was expressing themselves with judgement words. How would you feel if someone said that to, or about, you?
Ps 119:141 - “I am insignificant and despised…” - gem note
Thankfully, our Creator sees behind the judgements, and discerns our feelings, and can help us, if we ask, to determine what we’re feeling, and the best way to work our way through those very natural emotions.
While Jehovah God is the only one who can clear up all challenging thoughts, memories and feelings all at once in the paradise, I’m so grateful to be able to support you with the Aroma Freedom Technique to process them a few at a time. It’s always amazing to me how much can be accomplished in a Group AFT session, and even more so in a private individual session.
Please consider investing in the amazing person that you are by scheduling an individual or group session with me this month, and watch yourself grow and bloom! 🌱 🪴 …
