Life has a way of presenting us with challenges that shape our journey and redefine our priorities. This summer, my focus has been on caring for my beloved dog, Fibi, as she battles a tracheal condition. Though her fainting spells and coughing fits have been heartbreaking to witness, I've found solace in knowing her episodes are becoming less severe and her spirit remains resilient. Fibi's condition has transformed my daily routine. I spend my days ensuring her comfort, administering her medication, and finding ways to ease her coughs. While it saddens me to know her trachea flattens with each coughing fit, I've taken comfort in the vet's reassurance that her coughs trouble me more than they do her. Despite her struggles, Fibi's appetite remains strong, and she continues to drink water regularly, small victories that bring immense relief.
In my quest to provide Fibi with the best possible care, I've turned to essential oils and blends to create a calming environment. Dogs often find tree oils comforting, and the Tranquil roll-on blend has been a godsend, helping her (and me) drift back to sleep after a nighttime coughing fit. My life now revolves around her care, and though I sometimes feel stuck at home as friends share their travel adventures, I'm deeply grateful for the precious time I have with Fibi. Our days are simple but filled with love. Short outings have become the norm, as leaving for extended periods stresses Fibi. Yet, I always return to a joyful welcome, her tail wagging and eyes searching for me in all my usual spots. My hubby, Greg, has mentioned how the dogs howl when I leave, a testament to our deep bond and my role as their alpha.

This summer, I've embraced a slower pace. With interrupted sleep and mornings starting late, I cherish the quiet moments with a full fridge and pantry, working my Young Living business from home. Creating social media content about wellness products has become a joyful outlet, even as the muggy, wet weather keeps us indoors. The challenges of keeping the house clean with dogs who dislike the rain and track in mud are real. Fibi's cleverness in removing her diaper just as her incontinence medication begins to work adds to the daily tasks. Yet, in these moments of caregiving, I've found a deeper appreciation for the simple joys and the love that fills our home. As I navigate this season of life, I'm grateful for the support of friends and the companionship of my furry family. While my adventures may be close to home, the love and care I share with Fibi make each day meaningful. To pass the time, I've discovered some wonderful audiobooks, podcasts, and TV shows that provide comfort and entertainment.
Here are a few of my favorites: **Audiobooks:** 1. **"Eruption** - A massive volcanic eruption threatening Hawaii. 2. **"The Dutch House** - A story of paradise lost, a tour de force that digs deeply into questions of inheritance, love and forgiveness, of how we want to see ourselves and of who we really are. 3. **"State of Wonder** - A story of pharmacologist Marina Singh, who journeys to Brazil to bring back information about seemingly miraculous drug research being conducted there by her former teacher, Dr. Annick Swenson. **Podcasts:** 1. **"The Bible Project"** - In this podcast series, Tim and Jon invite new voices into the conversation to help explore the Sermon on the Mount. 2. **"The Jess Connolly Podcast"** - For people who live on mission and want to walk in abundance. It's a coffee date with a friend who gets how full your life is - but who also wants to help you feel alive. 3. **"That Sounds Fun with Annie F. Downs"** - She shares with you some of her favorite things: new books, faith conversations, restaurants, travel stories, musicians not to miss, interviews with friends.
**TV Shows:** 1. **"Live with Kelly and Mark"** - an American syndicated morning talk show hosted by married couple Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos. 2. **"The Toys That Built America"** Each episode outlines the development of a popular toy, invention, or company in the US, typically focusing on their rise and any rivals or struggles. 3. **"Blown Away"** - a Canadian reality TV show that follows 10 glassblowers form around the world as they compete in glassblowing challenges for a $100,000 prize and title of champion.
In embracing this slower, more intentional lifestyle, I've found peace in the present moment and gratitude for the time I have with Fibi. Life may look different than I expected this summer, but it's filled with love, purpose, and the simple joys that make each day special.
