A Peaceful Home Is Possible
A peaceful home. Does that phrase make you smile—or laugh out loud?
We know real homes have have laundry. Dishes. Schedules. People with opinions. Kids who need rides. Meals that need to magically appear several times a day. Unexpected things that pop up. And somehow, everyone needs something at exactly the same time.
For many years, I thought creating more peace at home meant getting everything under control—and sometimes I still have to catch myself and give it to God.
I’m still learning that peace doesn’t require a perfectly organized house or a perfectly followed schedule. I remember one of my dearest homeschool mama friends giving me the “Are you serious?” face when I was yapping about my laminated homeschool schedules and chore charts. She helped me realize that not everything can fit into a perfect schedule—and a perfectly organized home shouldn’t come at the cost of our sanity.
Sometimes we have to let go of perfect and embrace peace.
And sometimes peace starts with creating a few simple rhythms that help everyone know what to expect. Those rhythms need to fit the family you have right now—not the family you were five years ago or the one you imagine you’ll become when life finally settles down.
JOY-FUELED COACHING TIP
Instead of trying to overhaul your entire household, choose one place where your family regularly experiences friction.
Maybe mornings feel rushed. Dinner is chaotic. Nobody knows who is supposed to unload the dishwasher. Gaming time turns into a daily negotiation. Or everyone is constantly asking, “What are we doing today?”
Ask: What simple rhythm could make this part of our day feel more peaceful?
Maybe it’s starting or ending your day with family prayer. A family calendar. Assigned meal nights. A ten-minute evening reset. Clear expectations around screens. Closing your day by sharing highs and lows as a family. Hugging each child daily. Or simply sitting down together once a week to talk about what’s ahead.
Start with one.
