The Bucket List Mistake We All Make
I like to make a summer bucket list with my kids. Some years, I check off almost everything. Other years, life has different plans.
For a long time, I looked at the unchecked boxes and thought about everything I didn't get done. But somewhere along the way, I realized I was asking the wrong question.
A bucket list isn't a report card. It's an invitation.
It's a place to dream, gather ideas, and make memories with the people you love. This summer, few things were checked off - two worship nights, water balloon fight, popcicles on the deck, and beach. The rest unchecked and that is okay. Because when I look back, I don't remember the unchecked boxes nearly as much as I remember the laughter, the conversations, the adventures, and the unexpected moments that made this season special.
As summer comes to a close, I'm choosing gratitude over perfection. The goal was never to complete the list.
The goal was to live it. And the dreams that remain?
They're simply waiting for another beautiful season.
JOY-FUELED COACHING TIP
Pull out your summer bucket list. Instead of counting what you didn't accomplish, circle the memories that brought you the most joy. Celebrate those first.
SCRIPTURE TO HOLD FOR JOY
"Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom." — Psalm 90:12 (NLT)
JOY FOR THE JOURNEY
Don't measure your summer by what you finished. Measure it by the memories you made.
LET'S JOURNEY TOGETHER WITH JOY
