JOY: Emmanuel — God With Us
As a child, one of my favorite Christmas memories was staying up late to go to church. It was the time of year when the sanctuary glowed with candlelight and we sang songs about Emmanuel — God with us. I read about this again in a devotional last night, and it settled deep in my heart. Have you ever read something over and over, and each time it brings new meaning, new light, even new healing? That was me last night.
Christmas memories aren’t about the gifts, the schedule, or the perfect spread — they’re about presence. Growing up, Christmas was marked by worship, Scripture, and family gathered close - not perfection. Now, my husband and I gather our children together as he reads the story of the birth of our Savior, Jesus, from his old family Bible.
The birth of Christ reminds us that God didn’t stay distant — He came near. He is with us in the joyful moments and the heavy ones. You are never alone, friend — not now, not ever.
Joy Tip: Sit With the Story
This Christmas, pause long enough to remember why we celebrate. Read the Christmas story, run your favorite Christmas diffuser blend, play a worship song, or sit quietly with the truth that Jesus came for us.
Scripture to Hold Close for Joy
"Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son, and they will call him Emmanuel, which means ‘God is with us.’” Matthew 1:23
Joy for the Journey
Joy is found in His presence — God with us, always. Whatever may feel heavy on your heart, know that as I wrote this, I prayed peace over you.
