Joy in the JOMO Season
Hello December!!! Advent season is here!! And while this is meant to be a season of reflection, charity, kindness, and joyful expectation, it has a way of speeding everything up — schedules, emotions, expectations, even our pace of thinking. I'm meeting you there, friend.
In this tender healing season for me with new appointments and recovery, I’m learning (again) that slowing down is humbling. I’m reminded that joy doesn’t come from keeping up, doing more, or striving to be the woman I was 53 months ago… joy comes when I pause long enough to notice God’s goodness right where I am.
This week I found myself practicing something I had put away in my back pocket: JOMO — the joy of missing out. Not because I wanted to miss things, but because my body asked for rest, quiet, and gentleness--especially in an eventful season when I want to be present. I had to choose JOMO with some commitments that meant a lot to me and it was so, so hard to say goodbye. And surprisingly, in that space, God met me with soothing joy--like He always does.

I’m learning that joy isn’t always loud or full or productive. Sometimes joy is the peace that comes when we stop striving, breathe deep, and let God carry what we’ve been holding too tightly. Sometimes joy is saying “no,” stepping back, and trusting He’s still working in the unseen places.
Today's Joy CoachingTip: JOMO
This month, before saying yes to every invitation or expectation because of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out), pause and ask:
“Is this nourishing me or draining me?”
Giving yourself permission to choose peace over pressure isn’t selfish — it’s sacred. When you say no to what overwhelms you, you create space for God’s presence, rest, and JOY to rise again. JOMO - joy of missing out.

Joy for the Journey
Joy grows when we slow down enough to breathe, notice, and let God meet us in the moment. You don’t have to do more this month — you just have to be present.
