The Summer Overwhelm is Real

The Summer Overwhelm Is Real

Have you ever noticed that summer somehow manages to feel both exciting and exhausting at the same time?

We dream about sunshine, slower mornings, vacations, and making memories.

Then suddenly...
Schedules change.
Kids are home more.
Meals multiply.
Appointments still happen.
Activities show up.
And life keeps life-ing.

Friend, the summer overwhelm is real.

I'm the kind of person who can easily overthink things and at the same time be spontaneous. Which means trying to make all the memories special can sometimes become...a lot. Before I know it, I can drift into a cycle of:
Do all the things.
Keep everyone happy.
Make it memorable.
And somewhere in the middle of trying to create joy...
I accidentally create stress.
Sigh.

If you've been following my story, you know my journey with MCAS and lower-body orthopedic conditions over the past 59+ months has dramatically changed how I live life. My use of my legs has been limited, and I spend 60–70% of my days in bed.

Yes, it was a sudden life-changing shift.

But somewhere in the middle of all of it, I’ve been learning things I probably would have never noticed before. And I share them because maybe they'll help you too.

One thing that keeps surfacing?
My body does not respond well to pressure. And honestly... I don't think most of us do. What helps me most is:

Simple structure.
Loose schedules.
Flexibility to say no without guilt.
Fun lists and task lists for my kids.
A few go-to meals for days things don't go as planned.
Projects to work on.
And LOTS of joy breaks.
Lying on a zero gravity chair outside with a book.
Pausing long enough to notice the view.
Listening to the sounds around me.
Taking a deep breath and reminding myself:
I don’t have to do everything today.

Because guess what? Things don't always go the way we hoped.
And that doesn't mean summer is ruined. It simply means we adjust.
Joy isn't found in perfect plans. It's found in learning to enjoy the moments in front of us.

SCRIPTURE TO HOLD FOR JOY

"You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you." — Isaiah 26:3
