Beginner Blending Tips #3

Beginner Blending Tips #3
So far, you have a printable Beginner Blending Journal, a set of blending tips using your nose, and some grounding oil blending tips; now I give you tips for therapeutic blending.

Blending oils for the use of physical or emotional support is one of the key reasons I started using Young Living essential oils over  6 years ago.  I was gifted a pocket version of the reference book I recommend.  You will need to purchase a good essential oil reference guide.  I recommend this one. Anyone who signs up with a Premium Starter Kit with me, gets a spiral bound pocket Essential Oils Desk Reference.  There is too much information collected on hundreds of oils for anybody to know off the top of their heads.

You have head tension and you want to make an eo rollerball for it.  There are lots of oils for this in the reference book, like Peppermint, Aroma Siez & M-Grain by Young Living, Rosemary and even the YL Roller "Deep Relief." Since it only takes a several drops of eo in a carrier, this makes your oils go further and more cost effetive!
So, you put the top two single eos for this recipe in a 10 ml roller with the carrier oil of your choice.  Only make a half recipe to use at first.
So, I'd put 2 drops of Peppermint and Rosemary into a roller with fractionated coconut oil.  Roll it on the troublesome area and wait to see if it works.  If it does, you are golden!  Sometimes you can roll it on a different place, like the back of your neck for head tension, read the recommendations in the reference book.

Here are the oils you can use for dilution, called carrier oils.

Be sure to use your printed Beginner EO Blending Journal from my previous blog post as you create these therapeutic blends.  Make sure you label your roll-on so you know exactly what it's for.

As you practice the art (and science) of blending essential oils, you will love having grown in skill and having a written record of your progress.

Keep on blending!

If you haven't gotten a good therapeutic oil starter kit yet, I can help you.  Check out what I can offer here.

My Second Essential Oil Blending Tip (Stress related)

Did you create a blend using your oils and my blending tip #1?  What did you name it on your journal page (free printable in my previous post.)  When you wear or diffuse it, how does it make you feel?

It's important to remember that, like when wearing perfume, your nose will lose it's ability to register the smell of the oil you diffuse or wear after a few minutes of continuous smelling.  But that doesn't matter, because the aroma is a happy side effect to the primary work of the oil constituents in your body.  The oils that enter thru your nose, mouth or skin effect you on a cellular level.  It's science!

I didn't plan to go this direction with my blending instruction, but I feel it's important to address the current stress crisis playing out in jobs and homes across the country.  Front line workers and parents becoming teaching subs has increased the cortisol levels off the charts!  Essential workers risk getting Covid by extended exposure and parents are in over their heads becoming their kids and teens temporary teachers.  I've heard from a few "virtual crisis school at home" moms and they are OVER-WHELMED!  Some also work from home, have more than one child and add onto that, have a special needs child.

I want to help!  A great way to empower anybody as stressed out as these people is to #1 pray for them and #2 get them diffusing, oiling the children and oiling themselves!

Most of you know, our  body reacts to stress by releasing hormones, like cortisol. These hormones make our brain more alert, cause our muscles to tense, and increase our pulse. But, when you have chronic stress, your body stays alert, even though there is no danger. Over time, this puts you at risk for health problems. And if you already have a health condition, chronic stress can make it worse.

Essential oils can help reduce occasional emotional stress, and certain oils can reduce stress is by helping you "ground" back to the Earth.  As you may have guessed, the grounding oils are collected from shrubs, grasses, tree branches (limbs), leaves or needles, wood, bark and resin.  Certain oils work better at calming and balancing the human nervous system than others, called nervine oils.

Blending Tip #2, create a blend including a grounding oil with a complimentary oil you choose.

Here is a chart of the Young Living Grounding Oils (with their plant  source & complimentary oils):

Remember a blend is 2 or more oils together.  Sometimes the simpler the better.  Take two bottles of oil from this list, one grounding oil and one complimentary oil.  Using my Blending Tip #1, smell the open bottles next to each other. See which one you enjoy upon first smell.  Go back to it and check it again.  Then, decide how many drops to use of each.  Begin with a 1:1 ratio and increase one of the oils by one drop (1:2, 2:3, 3:4).  The grounding oils are most likely the base oils and adding a floral, herb or citrus top note will balance it out.  Some grounding oils may only compliment other base oils so, you get to pick any floral, herb or citrus oil to try with it.  It may take 2:1 citrus:base to make it work or 3:1 citrus:base.  It's up to your nose.

Don't forget to log the oils & ratios into  on your Blending Journal.  You can sit with it for a while before naming it, once you know how it makes you feel after diffusing for a bit.

Happy Diffusing!

Great Essential Oil Blending Tips (& free printable)

I have a gift for you!  After 6 years of acquiring, smelling, diffusing and blending tons of Young Living essential oils (eos); I think I have some great blending tips to share.

I'm posting my esential oil blending wisdom on my social media (@shawnsoilytestimonies) and created this journal page as a personalized blending journal/diary.  Print out a few pages and staple them together or put them in a binder.  It will inspire you to create your own personal blends, describe and name them to make them your very own.

It's been my observation, there are hundreds of printed blends found on social media that people may not have tested!  And what smells like root beer to one person may not smell like root beer to another individual.  Plus, who has time or the oil stash to change their diffuser blends every single day per someone else's 30 day diffuser blend calendar?  I say, let's get personal and create your top 10 favorite blends from your current stash to use for different moods and stick with them until you are ready to move on!

Plus, being on Young Living's Essential Rewards loyalty program enables you to get free oils to add to your growing collection! I remember getting a free oil that was not in my original starter kit and one I hadn't ordered yet and it was thrilling! Young Living blends contain anywhere from three to 14 oils.  Getting one of these babies is like winning the oil jackpot!

My blending tips are based on your nose and personal preferences.  I challenge you to sharpen your aromatherapy skills and your writing skills to customize your favorites to help support your daily life.  Afterall, it's about the cells not about the smells!

This is the first tip as shared on instagram.
Follow me to see more!

Also, are you aware, there is science that can take the guessing out of which oils our bodies need?  Yes, there is a tool for that called the iTOVi scanner.  This hand held scanner uses Galvonic Skin Response to pair your frequencies to the Young Living essential oil singles and blends (as well as supplements and over the counter products).  The iTOVi reports to your phone app and  gives you up to 10 items and categorizes them into either physical or emotional subcategories.  It's really amazing, because it can read your body's signals (needs & moods) better than you can sometimes!

If you want a discount code to purchase your own iTOVi scanner, you can use my referral link found here. Plus I share some other other great links with you, like my favorite amazon oiling tools!

EO blending can be a fun, creative or scientific way to empower you to change you and your family members moods, physical wellness and improve your days!  I use both my scanner and develop my own blends depending on the day.

Stay tuned to my instagram and facebook page to see what great blending tips I have for you (it's like getting more free gifts.)

Let's get personal!  You can connect with me there by commenting or feel free to use my contact information on my website to ask direct blending or general oiling questions.  I'm always happy to help (I'm an enneagram 2 "helper")!!

Happy blending!

Pre-Back to Home School Night Time Routine Tips

Pre-Back to Home School Night Time Routine Tips
We've been quarantined for 5 months and our nerves are frayed.  We've had a shortage of toilet paper and eggs and can't eat out at restaurants.  The summer travel list was a bust, and it's time for students to resume their learning.  Public school executives are working a plan to get teachers and students safely back into classrooms, but keep pushing back the start date.  Parents may not have gotten much of a break from their children to sweeten the bond. And it looks like school will begin at home, just like it ended in the Spring.

This time is stressful for parents and caregivers; because in the normal rhythm of life, we'd be sending our kids off to well-equipped teachers in classrooms in a school building. I understand many families choose to send their children to private school or already home school, either way, it's important to have an effective bedtime routine.  Letting the brain rest is important to learning and emotional well-being.

So, there are several clean Young Living products you can incorporate into your nightly routine (it's cheaper to acquire them on the monthly subscription plan with Essential Rewards.)  These tools are especially for the crisis home school parent or caregivers, the children who are ready to return to their classrooms but cannot, and for younger siblings at home in the mix.  Get one or two items a month or incorporate them into your life as you can.

At least two weeks before the first day of school and the kid's classroom conference calls begin, it's important to establish a good school sleep routine.  You know, that means beginning the bath routine earlier than during the summer, but Young Living has created a new product to assist.  So, 30-45 minutes before bed, give the 4 year old and up kids an UnWind packet to dissolve in their mouths.  While it works it's magic, make it reading time with their favorite night time books.  Set a timer and this way, you'll stay on track and the timer can be the "bad guy." Expect negotiations to become less and less as you use this product consistently.

Then it's off to the bathroom for a bath with KidScents Bath Gel, this is a toxic free gel that won't disrupt your growing children's hormones.  Playing in the warm bath is therapy for most children and playing with their favorite toys is a ritual they can create.  Be smart about setting an alarm again (maybe 10-15 minutes per child), it can be set to indicate hair washing time after body washing & play.  Wash their hair with KidScents Shampoo because it has no mineral oils, synthetic perfumes, no artificial colors, and has natural aloe, MSM, Chamomile, Tangerine and Lemon therapeutic grade essential oils that clean effectively and gently without causing irritation.

Teach them to respond the way you need  when they can hear the timer go off and learn to regulate themselves to wrap up play time in the bath, it's a process, have grace for yourself and them.  Of course you have to stagger the time if you are sharing the bathroom.  And some kids take showers, the same bath gel and shampoo products work until they are tweens.  Then they can move over to Young Livings Bath and Shower Gel, bar soap and hair products like the  Lavender Shampoo & Conditioner.  If they take a shower in the morning, I recommend the Lavender Mint shampoo instead. That goes for Mom and Dads too!

Once dry, either you or have them apply KidScents Lotion (or Seedlings Baby Lotion or even Seedlings Baby Oil) to their skin.  For the younger students, this gives you an opportunity to give them a quick massage.  Their muscles, tendons and ligaments are growing fast and their emotions are too, especially during this pandemic!  One of the best things we can do is create a stable routine for them to feel secure and bedtime is a wonderful time for this! We have our great Hand & Body Lotions for tweens and up to use since their bodies are changing too and they don't need toxic, petrochemicals and synthetic ingredients on their skin.

Next, give them a KidScents Mighty Pro packet to dissolve in their mouths to support their  gastrointestinal and immune health and aid in learning.  Studies are showing gut health directly effects our brain health.  So, once they figure out they get one or two treats at bedtime, it may sweeten the deal for weary parents who need some alone time! Kids who can swallow a capsule (helps to put chin to chest) can take our Life9 probiotic that you store in your fridge after opening.

If they can, have the elementary students drop sleep enhancing essential oils from your starter kit, like Lavender or Stress Away, into their Feather the Owl Diffuser and start it.  We have several diffusers for parents and teens rooms.

Now it's time to brush their teeth (only the ones they want to keep is what I'd tell Emily) with KidScents Toothpaste.  By now, they should be unwound and ready for bed.  If they want, they can spray the Seedlings Calm Linen Spray or a DIY Pillow Spray on their pillow (Visit my Pinterest Board of YL DIY Sprays for recipe ideas.)  Sing a song and say a prayer and do the things they like before you leave the dark room.  Hopefully this will aid you in your bedtime routine and become a habit your children look forward to.  I hope you begin of the crisis home schooling semester off on the right foot, with Young Living products to assist you.

By the way, if anyone is struggling to breathe freely, try our new Thieves Chest Rub.  Use the hands free applicator to put a bit on their chest to keep those airways open as they slumber.

May your night time routine catch on quickly and empower you to spend time with your significant other!

Note:  As your Young Living Sponsor for substitution ideas if a product is out of stock.  If that's me, shoot me a text!

If you don't know how to use these edible essential oils, I've researched and put together these recipe ideas for you via Aroma Flavor, Life Science Publishing & Lavender Life blog.

As you know, Young Living follows the French model of using essential oils (eo) and classifies their Vitality line as dietary, incidated by the white background labels.  Every year, Young Living grows their essential oil repertoire and this means more dietary oils keep coming into play.

I hope you will try one of the ideas from each of the recipes (which I will also post on my social media @shawnsoilytestimonies).  I can't wait to drop Parsley into my next smoothie along with a handful of spinach and fresh fruit!

Dip into it. Mix 1 drop of Parsley Vitality™ with 2 tablespoons tahini. Add to roasted potatoes, dip artichokes into it, or use as a salad dressing. Seconds are a must!
