Did you create a blend using your oils and my blending tip #1? What did you name it on your journal page (free printable in my previous post.) When you wear or diffuse it, how does it make you feel?
It's important to remember that, like when wearing perfume, your nose will lose it's ability to register the smell of the oil you diffuse or wear after a few minutes of continuous smelling. But that doesn't matter, because the aroma is a happy side effect to the primary work of the oil constituents in your body. The oils that enter thru your nose, mouth or skin effect you on a cellular level. It's science!
I didn't plan to go this direction with my blending instruction, but I feel it's important to address the current stress crisis playing out in jobs and homes across the country. Front line workers and parents becoming teaching subs has increased the cortisol levels off the charts! Essential workers risk getting Covid by extended exposure and parents are in over their heads becoming their kids and teens temporary teachers. I've heard from a few "virtual crisis school at home" moms and they are OVER-WHELMED! Some also work from home, have more than one child and add onto that, have a special needs child.
I want to help! A great way to empower anybody as stressed out as these people is to #1 pray for them and #2 get them diffusing, oiling the children and oiling themselves!
Most of you know, our body reacts to stress by releasing hormones, like cortisol. These hormones make our brain more alert, cause our muscles to tense, and increase our pulse. But, when you have chronic stress, your body stays alert, even though there is no danger. Over time, this puts you at risk for health problems. And if you already have a health condition, chronic stress can make it worse.
Essential oils can help reduce occasional emotional stress, and certain oils can reduce stress is by helping you "ground" back to the Earth. As you may have guessed, the grounding oils are collected from shrubs, grasses, tree branches (limbs), leaves or needles, wood, bark and resin. Certain oils work better at calming and balancing the human nervous system than others, called nervine oils.
Blending Tip #2, create a blend including a grounding oil with a complimentary oil you choose.

Remember a blend is 2 or more oils together. Sometimes the simpler the better. Take two bottles of oil from this list, one grounding oil and one complimentary oil. Using my Blending Tip #1, smell the open bottles next to each other. See which one you enjoy upon first smell. Go back to it and check it again. Then, decide how many drops to use of each. Begin with a 1:1 ratio and increase one of the oils by one drop (1:2, 2:3, 3:4). The grounding oils are most likely the base oils and adding a floral, herb or citrus top note will balance it out. Some grounding oils may only compliment other base oils so, you get to pick any floral, herb or citrus oil to try with it. It may take 2:1 citrus:base to make it work or 3:1 citrus:base. It's up to your nose.
Don't forget to log the oils & ratios into on your Blending Journal. You can sit with it for a while before naming it, once you know how it makes you feel after diffusing for a bit.
Happy Diffusing!
