Purification is our favorite way to keep our homes smelling fresh and clean - even if they aren't! It has a crisp, fresh aroma, and unlike many harsh chemical-based sprays it truly eliminates odors and doesn't simply mask them. It's a bright, cleansing blend of Citronella, Lavandin, Lemongrass, Rosemary, Myrtle, and Tea Tree that we use in so many different ways!

Purification essential oil blend is a combination of Citronella, Lavandin, Lemongrass, Myrtle, Rosemary, and Tea Tree that is formulated for diffusing to neutralize and cleanse your home and work environment. It is a favorite addition to our cleaning routine, is good at keeping outdoor annoyances at bay, and is also soothing to your skin for everyday irritations! This is one of our mainstay oils because it is so versatile.
Background
Created by Young Living Founder D. Gary Young, this blend was crafted to purify the air. Purification combines Citronella, Lavandin, Lemongrass, Rosemary Oil, Myrtle, and Tea Tree to uplift and cleanse the atmosphere. The plant sources for these oils come from many exotic and beautiful locations: Lemongrass is native to India, Guatemala, and other tropical countries; and Citronella originated in Sri Lanka. Purification utilizes these natural resources to brighten and freshen any space.
Key Ingredients
- Citronella - Known for its lemony, fresh scent, Citronella is a natural addition to many outdoor candles, insect repellants, and sunscreens to keep the pests at bay! This oil has a purifying aroma that kicks out odors and can also be used in cleaning routines to purify and cleanse your home.
- Lemongrass - Lemongrass is a household staple for many reasons. Its bright, crisp scent brings a smile to your face - it is a literal breath of fresh air that purifies and cleanses. Includes the naturally occurring constituents neral, geranial, limonene, and beta-caryophyllene which have wonderful health properties. It's also great for cleansing the skin!
- Tea Tree - A cleansing oil with a refreshing scent that eliminates odors, this versatile oil can be used for everything from home cleaning solutions to skin care. Tea Tree has been studied for many years for its ability to create an unfriendly environment for yeast, so it's a great addition to the Purification blend.
- Rosemary - This oil has a crisp, invigorating, herbal aroma that is cleansing and purifying. It's a key ingredient in the Thieves blend - our go to for anything cleaning or immune related! Rosemary is wonderful for heart health and helps support the immune and respiratory systems.
- Myrtle - Myrtle is another cleansing oil with purification properties, can be supportive to the thyroid, and helps support the immune system. Myrtle has also been studied for its soothing effects on the respiratory system, and can be used emotionally to process through feelings of deep despair to find hope.
- Lavadin - Closely related to Lavender, Lavandin has a similar aroma, though it is earthier and more cleansing as it has more camphor. This oil is soothing yet more alerting than Lavender and has deodorizing properties, making it a great choice for your beauty or cleaning routines.
Purification & Emotions
Did you know that the body physically stores our emotions? It does!
When we feel an emotion, especially a powerful one and/or one for a long period of time, our firing neurons release chemical messengers to tell our body what's happening. These compounds don't just go away, they get stored. And one place they get stored is the liver!
Our liver is a very important organ. It filters out the blood from our digestive systems as well as detoxifies our bodies from all the things we're exposed to daily - pollutants, chemicals, toxins, etc.
Traditional Chinese Medicine claims that the main emotion associated with the liver is Anger. Other emotions associated with the liver include Feeling Stubborn, Feeling rage, and Resentment. Many eastern practitioners also claim that a low-functioning liver or gallbladder can be due to years of suppressed anger and frustration, and when the anger is finally released it can produce manic behavior. (Hello rage-cleaning!!!)
So what does this mean for our emotions and where essential oils come in?
We can use oils that are supportive of the liver to help our bodies both physically and emotionally. Supporting the liver can help you process emotions and keep your anger in balance. Sometimes it will show you what is beneath the anger, and Purification is one of the best ones for this!
Purification helps with releasing Anger. It helps the body move past this emotion on the spectrum. Anger isn't a “bad” emotion. In fact, it is a very protective one! When we (or our kids) feel like (or do!) act out or explode, it is because we're protecting ourselves from bigger, scarier feelings. Anger is common for kids especially because they haven't learned how to process their emotions. So the next time you or your kids are feeling it, try this:
When you notice you or someone becoming angry or tense, grab Purification and inhale from the bottle, then apply over the liver (lower right abdomen). Verbalize what you're feeling. ‘I'm feeling angry and am going to try and let go of that. Help me think of something silly or funny since laughter is the other side of anger.” The quickest way to move anger through the body is with laughter! Modeling this for your kids helps them be able to do it themselves! If you are alone then you can simply say “I'm feeling angry and am going to try and let go of that.” and think of the funny thing on your own.
This process takes time and practice, but using oils for emotions can be a huge support tool!
Daily Habits with Purification
Use Purification in your home and cleaning routines!
Add to wool dryer balls to give your laundry a bright-smelling boost.
Place a few drops of Purification on cotton balls and stash them anywhere that can use additional freshness - air vents, drawers, shoes, gym bags, rain boots, garbage cans, etc.
Drop Purification directly into areas that need some freshening - rain boots, forgotten laundry, diaper pails, etc.
Make a DIY Carpet & Rug Freshener. To an airtight glass jar add:
- 1 cup Baking Soda
- ½ cup Fine Sea Salt
- 20 drops Purification
- 20 drops Lemon
Mix well. When ready to use, sprinkle over carpets and let sit for 10 minutes before vacuuming.
- 1 cup Epsom Salt
- ½ cup Fine Sea Salt
- ½ cup Baking Soda
- 30 drops Purification (or a mix of desired oils)
- To use, add 2-3 Tbsp directly to the laundry.
Use Purification in the car with Young Living's Car Vent Diffuser to fight lingering food and gym bag odors.
Add Purification to a glass spray bottle with water and spritz it on linens and/or add to Thieves Household Cleaner.
Use Purification in your health and skincare routines
Use Purification to support healthy airways. This blend is full of wonderful purifying oils.
Apply it topically to calm everyday skin irritations or use to spot-treat blemishes.
Try this T-Zone Roller (10mL):
- 10-15 drops each Lemon, Lavender, Purification
- Jojoba oil or carrier of choice
- ¼ cup pink Himalayan salt
- ¼ cup magnesium flakes
- 10 drops Purification
- Optional: 5 drops each Lavender, Tangerine
- ½ cup Organic Olive Oil (or 1 cup if not using arnica oil)
- ½ cup organic arnica oil
- 1 Tbsp shea butter
- 2 Tbsp unrefined extra virgin coconut oil
- 3-4 Tbsp beeswax pastilles
- 40 drops essential oils: Purification, Frankincense, Lavender, Patchouli alone or in combination
- Essential oils to add for a masculine scent: Sandalwood, Vetiver, Idaho Blue Spruce
Step 1 - Using a double boiler, place several inches of water in the bottom and place a bowl or pan on top. Turn the heat to low-medium and add the olive oil, shea butter, coconut oil & beeswax and allow it to melt, stirring gently.
Step 2 - Remove the bowl from the double boiler. Add Vitamin E oil and essential oils.
Step 3 - Allow the mixture to sit for a few minutes to cool but not harden, then pour into the small containers.
- 1 cup organic oats, ground
- ¼ cup organic powdered milk (or coconut milk) (or goat milk)
- 1 Tbsp liquid castile soap
- 2 tsp Vitamin E oil
- 15 drops Purification
- 5 drops Elemi or Frankincense
- (Optional) 5 drops Helichrysum
Sit and soak for 30 minutes or as long as desired.
- 2lb melt and pour soap base
- ½ cup powdered goat milk
- 2 Tbsp organic raw honey
- 1 Tbsp sweet almond oil
- 60 drops essential oils (Purification, Tangerine, Cedarwood, Lavender, alone or in combo!)
- Soap molds
Chop soap base into cubes and melt using a double boiler. Whisk in all remaining ingredients and pour into soap molds. Option to add dried flowers. Let sit overnight.
- ¼ cup ¼ cup magnesium flakes
- ¼ cup organic oats, ground
- 2 Tbsp sweet almond oil
- 10 drops each Purification, Lemon, Lavender
- ¼ cup Raw Organic Apple Cider Vinegar
Mix together and add to bath water. Then add ACV to the water and gently mix.
- 4oz pump bottle
- 20 drops Purification essential oil
- 10 drops Lemon essential oil
- Carrier of choice
Diffuse this purifying oil to help cleanse and freshen your space!
- Morning Sunshine - 3 drops each Purification, Lemon, Jade Lemon, & Tangerine
- Happy Noses - 4 drops Purification, 3 drops each Lemon, & R.C.
- Fresh Laundry - 4 drops each Purification, Tangerine, & Lavender
- Travel Buddy - 4 drops each Purification & Thieves, 2 drops Lemon

DAILY HABITS WITH THE THIEVES HOME LOYALTY BUNDLE
Create a cozy home with these green cleaning products!
Whip up a Thieves Household Cleaner for general cleaning - counters, bathrooms, everywhere!
- To the 16 oz glass spray bottle add 1-2 capfuls of Thieves Household Cleaner.
- Option to add 10-15 drops each Lemon and Thieves essential oils.
- Fill with filtered water.
Pretreat stains with Thieves Dish Soap! Simply drop onto stains, use a wooden laundry brush to rub in, then wash in Thieves Laundry Soap.
Make a stain stick!
- 30mL roller bottle
- Fill halfway with Thieves Household Cleaner
- Add 1 tbsp hydrogen peroxide
- 10 drops Lemon essential oil
- Fill the remainder with Thieves Dish Soap
Shake well and roll onto stains, then brush with a wooden laundry brush
- 1 cup Baking Soda
- 1 cup Borax
- ½ cup Thieves Laundry Soap
- ¼ cup Thieves Household Cleaner
- 4 capfuls Thieves Fruit & Veggie Soak
- 5 drops each Lemongrass, Eucalyptus, Peppermint, & Lemon (or just use a mix of Lemon and Thieves if that's all you have!)
- Mix all into very hot water.
- Add linens and let soak for a couple hours, stirring every so often. Squeeze out water, rinse and wash per usual.
Use Lemon and Thieves in DIY cleaning products for a fresh, sparkling home.
Make a linen or upholstery spray to spray on bed linens, couches and other furniture (and ditch the Febreeze!)

- Combine 1 capful Thieves Household Cleaner and 1-2 cups water. For heavy cleaning, use half or quarter the amount of water. If necessary, use a cloth to apply Thieves Household Cleaner undiluted. After cleaning, wipe the area with a cloth dampened with water.
- Add this to a glass spray bottle and use on: Kitchen Sink, Toilet Seats, Bathroom Sink. Bathtub, Floors and Tile
Glass and Mirror Cleaner
- Combine 1 capful Thieves Household Cleaner, 5 drops Citrus Fresh essential oil blend, 1 tsp white vinegar, and 3 cups water.
Sink and Tile Scrub Recipe
- Simply mix equal parts Thieves Household Cleaner and the baking soda in a bowl and use throughout your whole house on grimy surfaces!
10 FAST WAYS TO USE THIEVES CLEANER TODAY
- Windows and Mirrors - 1 capful of Thieves Cleaner to 4-5 cup water in glass spray bottle. Provides a streak free shine.
- Carpets - 1 capful for 4-5 cups water to a steam cleaner can remove dirt and grime from carpets and upholstery. Make sure to spot check.
- Garbage Cans - 1 capful Thieves Cleaner to 3 cups water. Spray both inside and outside to remove dirt and grime. Wipe clean. (No need to wash off) You may also want to consider adding a few drops of Thieves Essential Oil to a cotton ball and dropping into the bottom of can as a weekly deodorizer.
- Heavy Degreaser - 1 capful Thieves cleaner to 1 cup water. Spray and soak for 5 minutes. Wipe away grease like your name is Houdini.
- Bathroom Soft Scrub - 1 capful Thieves Cleaner to 1⁄4 cup baking soda. Using a bristle toilet brush, scrub inside of toilets and showers and sit 5 min before rinsing or flushing.
- Toy Soak - 1 capful Thieves Cleaner to 3 Cups water in sink or bucket. Let your baby's toys soak for 15 minutes to remove grime and hidden dangers all while providing a non-toxic sanitizer for your tiniest of human's favorite toys. Make sure to rinse thoroughly and dry.
- Floors - Cleaning floors can be so easy with this one solution that cleans, deodorized and adds shine to various hard flooring. 1 capful of Thieves Household Cleaner to 4 cups water (we always add 2-3 drops of Lemon essential oil for the smell and extra shine) Mop as usual.
- Fridge Cleaner - 1 capful Thieves Cleaner to 2 cups water. Great for both inside and a streak free stainless-steel cleaner. Also, who wants harsh chemicals where we store food.
- Tiles and Grout - 1 capful of Thieves Cleaner with 1/2 cup of water in a spray bottle. Spray tile and grout. Let sit for a couple of minutes. Use a small brush to get stains out. You may use less water for stronger concentration as needed.
- Mattress Cleaner - 1 capful of Thieves Cleaner to 3 cups water, add 3 drops Purification essential oil and spritz over entire mattress for overall clean. When using as a spot cleaner, spray thoroughly and scrub with a light bristled brush.

The liver is the filtering organ of the body, so that means that every single thing we ingest or put on our skin goes through it to some degree! Everything gets filtered here, so it is incredibly important we show our livers some love and support them well! Not only is the liver the physical filter of our body, according to traditional Chinese medicine, anger and other negative emotions are stored in the liver. When the liver is functioning properly, it allows for the processing and release of both toxic emotions as well as physical toxins from our environment.
One of the ways that we can support our liver is with alkaline foods (typically greens, vegetables, etc). Because Lemon essential oil is cold pressed from the rind of the fruit, it is alkaline and not acidic (like lemon juice). Adding Lemon to your daily wellness routine is a great way to support your liver on a daily basis.
Lemon & Emotions

As we said above, our liver is a filtering and storage organ, and our emotions can take up root here. There is so much scientific evidence that our emotions have a direct impact on our physical health. Lemon can help with release of many emotions, but here are three to start with:
- Frustration is closely tied to our expectations (of ourselves, of others, or of a situation or outcome). The other side, or opposite feeling, of Frustration is Accomplishment. Most of the time when we feel frustrated is usually because we fear that we are not going to accomplish what we want to do/ feel/ or have happen! Releasing Emotional Patterns with Essential Oils suggests rubbing a drop or two of Lemon along the ribs, near the sternum (above the bile ducts), and focus on moving beyond your limitations or expectations. If we store up enough frustration that does not get resolved it turns to chronic anger, which is highly associated with liver and gallbladder discomfort or problems. So it's good to let the frustration go!
- Lack, or the feeling of emptiness- when we don't feel "Complete". The other side of Lack is Full. This also makes this oil great for the Enneagram 7s and Enneagram 4s! Releasing Emotional Patterns suggests rubbing Lemon over the heart and chest while focusing on our completeness and all that we currently possess.
- Stuck, the opposite of feeling Transformed and moving forward. When we feel stuck we fear experiencing life. So rubbing Lemon on the sinuses can be helpful for branching out and having new experiences and getting un-stuck! Note: do not use Lemon (or other citrus oils) on skin that will be exposed to direct sunlight within two hours.

Daily Habits with Lemon
One very simple way to support your liver on a daily basis is with Lemon Vitality! Lemon Vitality is cold pressed from the rind of the fruit, making it alkaline and not acidic, and our livers love alkaline things. But aside from liver support, there are so many ways to use Lemon oil!
Add Lemon to your food and drink

Add a few drops of Lemon Vitality to warm water and drink first thing in the morning before any other food or drink.
Add a few drops of Lemon Vitality to your water and sip throughout the day.
Toss raw greens (kale, arugula, spinach) with olive oil and Lemon Vitality.
Add a few drops of Lemon Vitality to your daily NingXia Red.
Add 1–2 drops of Lemon Vitality to a vegetarian gel capsule and take it daily for immune support and healthy weight management.
Use in place of lemon zest in recipes.
Convince your kids to eat the sliced apples in their school lunch by tossing them in 2 drops of Lemon Vitality essential oil. Lemon Vitality provides powerful antioxidants and will also help keep those vitamin-packed wedges from turning brown.
Add a few drops of oil to a batch of lemon cookies or pound cakes for a delicious twist!
Apply Lemon for its health and skincare benefits
Add Lemon to a roller bottle with R.C. or Raven to help boost the expectorant qualities, support airways and break up mucus.
Add a drop to your conditioner to promote shine in your hair.
Add a drop to your moisturizer or use it as a spot treatment to help with blemishes

Use Lemon essential oil as a natural nail polish remover.
Add to the ‘Nature Roller': 10 drops each of Lemon, Lavender and Peppermint in a 5mL bottle and use them when the seasons change for respiratory support!
Use Lemon to spot treat oily skin areas such as the t-zone.
Use Lemon for Household Cleaning
Use to remove stickers on glass (without the nasty chemicals!).
Add 1-2 drops to your dishwasher for sparkling dishes.
Add Lemon to wool dryer balls for a fresh scent (and ditch the dryer sheets!)
Use Lemon to remove childhood art from the walls or furniture! Lemon pairs well with Thieves Household Cleaner for this. Make sure to do a spot check if you are worried about the area.
Pre-treat stains with a couple drops of Lemon oil, then apply Thieves Dish Soap directly to the stain OR make a DIY Stain Stick:
- 30mL roller bottle
- Fill just over â…“ with Thieves Dish Soap
- Add 1 tsp Hydrogen Peroxide
- Add 15 drops Lemon Essential Oil
- Fill remainder with Thieves Household Cleaner and shake to mix.
- Apply directly to stains to pre-treat.
Make a DIY Laundry Scent Booster and ditch toxic laundry products:
- To a glass jar with a lid add:
- 1 cup Epsom Salt
- ½ cup Fine Sea Salt
- ½ cup Baking Soda
- 30 drops Lemon Essential Oil (or a mix of desired oils)
To Use - add 2-3 Tbsp directly to the laundry.
Add Lemon to your homemade cleaning products for extra power (just don't apply directly to granite or marble).
- Add 15 drops of Lemon to diluted Thieves Household Cleaner for a daily spray.
- Add 10 drops each Pine & Lemon to Thieves Household Cleaner and dilute for a mop solution.
- Mix 10 drops Lemon oil + ¼ cup Baking Soda + 1 tsp Thieves Household Cleaner for a kitchen and bath scrub (add more baking soda to consistency as desired)
- Clean a slow moving drain with baking soda, white vinegar and lemon oil. Pour ¼-½ cup baking soda onto the drain, drop 2-3 drops Lemon onto it, pour ¼-½ cup vinegar onto the mixture and cover with a cloth for 10 minutes. Then pour hot water into the drain.
Diffuse Lemon to neutralize unwanted odors and fill your space with its uplifting and refreshing aroma. It is lovely paired with Peppermint, Thieves or other citrus oils!

Evergreen Essence & Emotions
Evergreen Essence is a blend of conifer oils, all of which contain alpha-pinene, a constituent that helps the mind and body reach a calming, peaceful environment. A 2011 study in Pharmacognosy Magazine looked at the anxiolytic effects of an alcohol based pine needle extract and its ability to soothe depression in rats. Bottom line: however you approach it, pine and other conifer essential oils can be powerful health tools!
Interestingly, we are often drawn to these oils during the colder months, when we are gathering with friends and family, remembering years past, and even grieving the things we have lost. Pine, Spruce, and Fir are calming and grounding and help us connect to feelings of strength and protection, which is something we need while processing those emotions. Adding Evergreen Essence to your daily routine is a wonderful way to support mental and emotional health during these times!

Daily Habits with Evergreen Essence
Diffuse this favorite on its own or with Tangerine, Cinnamon Bark or Lavender.
Drop onto porous holiday decor to create a passive diffuser.
Mix with filtered water and a splash of witch hazel to create a festive room spray! You can also keep fresh greenery looking spiffy by spraying it with this same combination.
Make Scented Pinecone Fire Starters for your cozy winter home
- Yarn or twine
- Large, foraged pinecones from the yard
- Thieves Household Cleaner
- Evergreen Essence
Step 1 - Collect pine cones and lightly spritz them with diluted Thieves Household Cleaner to get rid of any unwanted pests. Allow to dry overnight.
Step 2 - Wrap twine or yarn around the pinecones, all the way into the center weaving between the individual scales. You can use festive, colorful yarn for a fun twist or neutral yarn or twine.
Step 3 - Drop 5 drops of essential oil onto the yarn/twine of each pinecone. Place in a basket beside the fireplace and add a few to the fire whenever you build one.
Make an artificial holiday tree smell like the real thing with these simple hacks:
Add to reed diffuser sticks and place in your tree.
Make a simple DIY Tree & Garland Spray and spritz on greenery as desired. To a 2 oz glass spray bottle, add
- 35 drops Evergreen Essence
- Splash witch hazel
- Fill with filtered water
Use in DIY cleaning products for a fresh, sparkling home. Add 20 drops to Thieves Cleaner (option to add 20 drops of Lemon as well)
Make a DIY Wood Polish
- 1 cup olive oil)
- 5 drops Evergreen Essence essential oil
- 5 drops Lemon essential oil
Add Evergreen Essence to your health and wellness routine
Some individuals choose to take this oil in a capsule (diluted with olive or coconut oil) for targeted immune support during and after acute needs.
Add a few drops directly onto the crown of the head for emotional support. Drop directly onto the scalp and avoid rubbing in and your hair will not be oily! Plus, you've now turned your hair into a diffuser. Win win!
Relax and recharge with an epsom salt bath! For every 1 cup of salts, add 10 drops of Evergreen Essence. Feeling run-down? Add ¼ cup hydrogen peroxide, ¼ cup Himalayan salt and a little extra essential oil!
Make these Detox Bath Salts:
- 1 cup magnesium flakes
- ½ cup epsom salts
- 20 drops Evergreen Essence essential oil
- 10 drops Lavender
- 10 drops Geranium
- Optional: 10 drops Thieves essential oil
- Optional: dried lavender, rose buds, rosemary
Add to a glass jar and mix well. If gifting or storing add ¼ cup baking soda or Himalayan salt to help prevent clumping.
Make a ‘Roaring 20s' roller to take advantage of all the immune support of these conifer oils! Apply over lymph nodes, along the spine and/or on the bottom of the feet. In a 10 mL roller, add:
- 20 drops Evergreen Essence
- Optional: 10 drops each Lemon, Frankincense, Geranium
- Fill with carrier.
Use liberally and frequently for acute needs.
Give your skin and your joints some love with this Soothing ACV Bath Soak:
- ¼ cup ¼ cup magnesium flakes
- ¼ cup organic oats, ground
- 2 Tbsp sweet almond oil
- 15 drops Evergreen Essence
- ¼ cup raw organic apple cider vinegar
Mix together and add to bath water. Then add ACV to the water and gently mix.
Use Evergreen Essence in your self-care routine
Diffuse this oil during prayer, meditation, yoga, stretching or journaling.
Drop onto your palms, rub together and cup your hands over your nose as you breathe deeply and recite a prayer, Bible verse or calming mantra.
Make this incredible Gardener's Hand Salve for anyone who works with their hands.
- ½ cup cold pressed organic olive oil (or 1 cup if not using arnica oil)
- ½ cup organic arnica oil
- 1 Tbsp shea butter
- 2 Tbsp unrefined extra virgin coconut oil
- 3-4 Tbsp beeswax pastilles
- 30 drops essential oils
- Essential oils to add for a masculine scent: Sandalwood, Vetiver, Idaho Blue Spruce
Step 1 - Using a double boiler, place several inches of water in the bottom and place a bowl or pan on top. Turn the heat to low-medium and add the olive oil, shea butter, coconut oil & beeswax and allow it to melt, stirring gently.
Step 2 - Remove the bowl from the double boiler. Add Vitamin E oil and essential oils.
Step 3 - Allow the mixture to sit for a few minutes to cool but not harden, then pour into the small containers.
Whether your skin needs some TLC or you have a more acute need, make this ‘Ultimate Skin Healing Balm' and use it frequently and liberally! Use whatever oils you have that are listed.
- To about 1/4 jar of Rose ointment add:
- 10 drops Evergreen Essence
- 8 drops Helichrysum

Make a simple DIY Roll-on Cuticle Oil! This also makes a great gift and pairs well with the Gardener's Hand Salve:
- 1½ teaspoons V-6 Vegetable Oil Complex
- 10 drops Evergreen Essence essential oil
- 5 drops Frankincense essential oil
Add all the above to an empty 15 ml essential oil bottle and add an AromaGlide Roller Fitment. Roll onto your cuticles anytime, anywhere.
Make this nourishing DIY Goat Milk Soap:
- 2lb melt and pour soap base
- ½ cup powdered goat milk
- 2 Tbsp organic raw honey
- 1 Tbsp sweet almond oil
- 60 drops essential oils
- Soap molds
Chop soap base into cubes and melt using a double boiler. Whisk in all remaining ingredients and pour into soap molds. Option to add dried flowers. Let sit overnight.

This month we're focusing on all the simple ways we can support our bodies through the fall and winter, and Thieves essential oil blend is a key player!
Thieves & Thieves Vitality Essential Oil
If there were only one oil we could have in our arsenal, it would probably be Thieves. This blend of Clove, Lemon, Cinnamon Bark, Eucalyptus Radiata, and Rosemary essential oils smells like a warm cup of chai and is a powerhouse when it comes to our health and our homes!

Thieves is THE oil for immune support. We're talking what you want to reach for daily to give your body a little extra boost and definitely what you want to reach for when your defenses start to go down. A quick PubMed search for the individual oils in this blend will have you convinced that these oils can be a powerful tool for our health!
Thieves Background
Formulated by Young Living founder, D. Gary Young, this blend was created from research recorded in the archives of the British Museum library about a group of 14th century European perfumers and spice traders who rubbed oils on themselves while they robbed the dead and dying. The first essential oil blend to be scientifically evaluated in a university research laboratory, Thieves has a rich, spicy aroma, and is a key ingredient in the Thieves Home Collection – your go to for an invigorating clean and healthy home.
Key Constituents
*Constituents are naturally occurring compounds in plants (and therefore essential oils) that give them specific health-supporting properties
- Eugenol - known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory support as well as antimicrobial activity
- Eucalyptol - has a calming effect when applied in aromatherapy; may have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial effects; supports airway opening.
- Linalool - supports stress relief and uplifts the mood
Thieves & Emotions
Thieves is a powerhouse for our health, both physical and emotional. This makes a lot of sense since our emotions are closely linked with our physical health. When we are sick our energy is low, we struggle with brain fog and lethargy. Thieves can help us there! Rosemary, Clove, and Cinnamon are all wonderful for helping combat brain fog, clearing the mind, and energizing our spirits. Diffuse, apply, add to an Epsom salt bath.
Thieves is a wonderful choice when you need to help promote clarity. If you're feeling uncertain or unfocused, the blend of oils in Thieves can be helpful. Dilute and apply it over the throat or over the liver.

Note: Thieves and Thieves Vitality are the same essential oil. Vitality oils are labeled for ingestion but contain the same oil as the non-vitality option.
Daily Habits with Thieves
Thieves is one of our favorite oils to use in our homes and health routines.
Use Thieves Vitality in your wellness and cooking routines:
- Take in a capsule to help support the immune system.
- Put a drop in your morning juice, tea, or coffee or add 1-2 drops to coffee ground before brewing
- Add a drop to oatmeal, granola, or other cereal to elevate your breakfast and help cleanse the digestive system
- Add 1-2 drops to a shot of NingXia Red for a quick spicy boost
Make ‘Thieves Tea' to boost the immune system or when you feel that tingle in the back of your throat:
- Add a drizzle of raw honey to a large mug
- Add 1 drop each Thieves & Lemon Vitality
- Add hot water and/or herbal tea bag and steep
Thieves + Honey Throat Coat:
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1 tsp water
- 2 drops Thieves Vitality
- 3 drops Lemon
Heat up the water and honey together until liquid then add in the oils. Stir together and serve on a spoon. Make sure the liquid isn't too hot or close to boiling before adding oils.
Add Thieves to your natural home care routine:
Add a few drops to dryer balls for the fresh smelling laundry. Use Thieves in your DIY Laundry Scent Booster. To a large glass jar with airtight lid add:
- 1 1/2 cup epsom salt
- 1/2 cup baking soda
- 30 drops Thieves (or mix Thieves and Lemon)
Whisk together until all ingredients are well combined.
To use - add 1-2 Tbl into the washer before adding any laundry. Add laundry and the normal amount of laundry detergent.
Make a Mattress & Upholstery Spray to use when you change the sheets or anytime a surface needs a little freshening. To a 16 oz glass spray bottle, add:
- 1-2 tsp Thieves Household Cleaner
- 20 drops each Thieves, Lavender, & Lemon
- Filtered water
Add a few drops to your dishwater or dishwasher to eliminate odors and boost cleaning.
Make this Citrus Spice Thieves Cleaner recipe. To a 16 oz glass spray bottle, add:
- 1-2 tsp Thieves Household Cleaner
- 10 drops each Tangerine & Lemon
- 20 drops Thieves
- Filtered water
- 20 drops Thieves
- 10 drops Lemon or Grapefruit (optional)
- Splash organic witch hazel
- Fill with filtered water
- 1 cup baking soda
- ½ cup salt
- 30 drops Thieves
- 20 drops Lemon (optional)
Mix well. When ready to use, sprinkle over carpets and let sit for 10 minutes before vacuuming.
Use Thieves in your wellness & acute care routines
- Dilute and apply to the bottom of your feet during cold winter months.
- Dilute and apply to the bottoms of your kids' feet in the morning and for a great day at school. We love to make rollers for this!
- Diffuse this cleansing blend any time of day, either alone or with other immune supporting favorites.
- Add Thieves to an epsom salt bath for a gentle detox or use more in a more concentrated way when your defenses go down.
Make a simple chest rub to support the airways:
- ½ cup solid coconut oil
- 20 drops Thieves
- Optional - 15 drops R.C. or Raven, 20 drops Lemon
Apply to the chest and back as desired.
- 25 drops Thieves
- Optional additions: 10-20 drops each Lemon, Frankincense, Pine, Geranium, & Oregano
- Top with carrier
Apply morning and evening or more frequently for acute needs.
Add Thieves to your skin, hair and self care routines
- Sprinkle a few drops in your shower with some epsom salt for an awakening shower steam in the morning.
Give your tired feet some love with this Lemon Herb Foot Scrub:
- 2 Tbsp Organic Sugar
- 1 Tbsp Olive Oil
- 2 Tbsp of Honey
- 1 tsp Lemon Juice
- 3 drops each Thieves & Lemon
Mix ingredients well then rub onto feet. Wrap feet with warm damp towels and let sit for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes remove the towel and wipe off the scrub. Follow with moisturizer if desired.
Whenever you feel your defenses going down, try this Immune Boost Bath Soak:
- ½ cup pink Himalayan salt
- ½ cup magnesium flakes
- 12 drops Thieves
- 8 drops Cedarwood
- 5 drops Lemon
- 5 drops Frankincense
Try this Tingly Lip Scrub for soft, happy lips:
- 7 drops Vanilla
- 5 drops Thieves
- ¼ cup White Sugar
- ¼ cup Coconut Oil
Whip coconut oil with a mixer, then add in sugar and essential oils and mix again. Store in a glass jar. Apply nightly to lips in a circular motion. Wipe off with a dry towel.

Cinnamon, clove, cardamom, and orange this time of year. Add this blend to your diffuser anytime of the day, but especially when you need an immune boost.

This blend contains naturally occurring constituents Eucalyptol, Limonene, Menthol, and alpha pinene which are wonderful for calming, soothing and supporting healthy respiration.
