All Things Emotions Spotlight - June 2023

All Things Emotions

Emotions are a part of our everyday lives. They are unavoidable! But sometimes it can feel like our emotions are running our lives. Sometimes they become bigger than what we can handle, and that is when we are so grateful to have tools at our disposal to help us process these emotions!

Favorite Oils for Emotions
There is no shortage of oils that can help us with our emotions, but here are some of our favorites:
When it comes to processing our emotions, it is important to support the physical body as well. That's a whole separate topic, but a few simple ways to do that would be drinking NingXia Red daily, using EndoFlex as a dietary supplement or rolling it over the thyroid and adrenals multiple times a day, and taking a nutrient-dense multivitamin like Master Formula.

Essential Oils & Emotions

Our brains have specific areas where we process emotion. The system of the brain responsible for memory and mood is the limbic system. It includes the hippocampus, the hypothalamus, and the amygdala.
When we look at the structure of the brain, we see that the amygdala (a tiny, almond-shaped structure) is key when it comes to emotion and fear. The hippocampus is where new nerve cells are created. And it is physically beside the structure responsible for emotions. And is connected to the nose via a cranial nerve.
That may sound a bit like science jargon, but let's read that again.

The part of the brain where new nerve cells are created is connected to the part that processes emotions and is also connected to our sense of smell.

That is powerful. That is how we can process trauma. That is how we rewire our brains. That is how we move forward in peace.

Emotions & The Nervous System

Our emotions are closely linked to our physical bodies. If you've ever felt your stomach churn from anxiety or your heart beat faster with worry or fear, then you know that this is true.  This is because of the Central Nervous System. Quick (and we mean quick!!) science lesson….

The Central Nervous System has two branches - the autonomic nervous system and the sympathetic nervous system. The Autonomic Nervous System controls involuntary body responses, such as blood flow and digestion. The Sympathetic Nervous System is charged with controlling the body's fight-or-flight reactions. BOTH of these systems are affected by and involved in our emotional responses.

For now, let's focus on the Sympathetic Nervous System, our fight-or-flight response. We will be in one of three places within our Sympathetic Nervous System:Ventral aka the right amount of energy. We feel calm, grounded, able to give and receive connection with others.Sympathetic aka too much energy. We are hyperactive, frustrated, angry, yelling, anxious, panicking and defensive.Dorsal aka drained or zero energy. We are shut down, closed off, depressed, zoned out, numbed, hopeless and sluggish.

Think about each of these three states. What does it look like for you to be in Ventral? What does it feel like emotionally? Physically? What about Sympathetic? Dorsal? Write these things down. This will help you identify the state of your Sympathetic Nervous System and your triggers for activation.

Our goal is to spend as much time as possible in Ventral energy, but past trauma and pain can hijack the system and send us down the spiral into an activated Sympathetic state or further down into a numbed or depressed Dorsal state.

This is why it is so important for us to identify trauma and process and heal the past, so that we can rewire those responses and spend our time in a calm state with the right amount of energy. This is also the energetic state where we can grow, connect and thrive!

And you guessed it. One of our best tools for rewiring this system? Essential oils.

Using Oils for Emotions

We know that our sense of smell is directly related to our emotions and mood. This is why a scent can trigger a memory or even a feeling. Vanilla reminds you of baking cookies with your best friend. Lavender reminds you of your grandmother.

This is why aromatherapy is so effective when it comes to processing emotions and dealing with needs such as anxious thoughts, stress and even low mood.

Essential oils are also great for emotions because they contain constituents that can cross the blood brain barrier to help reprogram bad coding as a result of trauma. Then other compounds rewrite that code to restore the original perfect copy, one that will not keep us pulled into the physical and emotional effects of stress. This is a process, but the great thing about essential oils is that we have a CHOICE to embrace that process instead of loading our bodies up with toxins, chemicals, and other things that create more confusion in the cells.

What does this look like practically? Glad you asked…
Grab an oil and isolate what emotion you are feeling. Think about the opposite of that emotion and deeply inhale and apply the oil as you sit quietly. After a time, practice rewiring that pathway with a truth or affirmation. Do this daily as you process through a specific event or emotion. Here are a few examples from one of our favorite reference books, Releasing Emotional Patterns with Essential Oils
  • Emotion - Anxiety // Other Side - Confidence // Way Out - “Peace, be still.”
  • Emotion - Disappointment // Other Side - Freedom // Way Out - “I trust my vision.”
  • Emotion - Grief // Other Side - Happy // Way Out - “Change brings growth.”
  • Emotion - Judgment // Other Side - Regard // Way Out - “I am discerning.”
Process emotions through movement. This can be walking, yoga, swimming, cycling, etc. just as long as the movement physically moves your body through space.

Grab your oils and apply or diffuse them as you move, breathing in the oil as you mentally and physically process.

For some individuals those steps also include therapy or counseling. There is a lot of value in a third party listening and giving insight into your experiences, and there is no shame in that!
Use your oils daily, frequently and consistently to help you find balance and harmony!

Mineral Essence Spotlight - May 2023

Mineral Essence Spotlight

Mineral Essence is your daily liquid dose of minerals - an essential part of overall health and vitality. This unique supplement combines the benefits of ionic minerals with Lemon, Cinnamon, and Peppermint essential oils to create a formulation that is quickly and fully absorbed by the body. You get all the great benefits of minerals in a convenient daily dose!

Mineral Essence at a Glance
  • Balanced, full-spectrum ionic mineral complex
  • Enhanced with essential oils
  • Excellent source of magnesium
  • A great addition to your daily multivitamin
  • A popular choice for supplementation during pregnancy
Background

According to two-time Nobel Prize winner Linus Pauling: “You can trace every sickness, every disease, and every ailment to a mineral deficiency.” Trace minerals are incredibly important for our overall health. The body requires nearly two thirds of all the elements currently known to man in order to support optimal health, cognitive function and overall performance, and keeping these minerals in balance is a complex, yet incredibly vital task. The events of everyday living demand a continual ingestion of minerals, ideally from the diet, but given current farming practices, it just isn't enough.

Why do we need Minerals?

Traditionally, eating fresh, sprouted grains, fruits, and vegetables grown in nutrient-rich soil has been the primary supply for a full spectrum of ionic minerals. Unfortunately in today's world, naturally occurring, nutrient-rich soil is becoming increasingly rare. Decades and decades of vegetation growth and aggressive modern farming techniques have brought many of the earth's minerals to the surface where they have been washed away. Synthesized fertilizers are routinely applied to farms and fields where minerals have been depleted, but man-made fertilizers provide only enough mineral substance to support basic plant life.

And just like so many other areas of our health, we can achieve our goals with supplementation! Mineral Essence is a balanced, full-spectrum ionic mineral complex enhanced with essential oils. It contains sixty ionic minerals including iron, zinc, silicon, fluorine, boron, lithium, sodium, sulfur, magnesium, chloride, selenium, thallium, calcium, and potassium as well as peppermint, cinnamon bark and lemon essential oils. The addition of essential oils helps the body absorb all these ionic minerals, making them more bioavailable (and useful!) to our bodies instead of just passing through.

The following deficiencies have been linked to many health issues -- including those that affect our emotional health -- and all of these deficiencies can be improved with Mineral Essence!
  • Iron - affects around 20% women and 50% of pregnant women. Pair with Master Formula for ideal results.
  • Selenium - a key component of thyroid health. Pair with Master Formula for ideal results.
  • Magnesium - some sources say up to half the population is deficient in magnesium! 1 serving of Mineral Essence provides 80% of our daily magnesium requirements.
  • Zinc - this mineral is used by more enzymes than any other mineral our bodies need and is used for everything from gut health to DNA repair.
Key Ingredients

  • Calcium - essential for healthy bones and teeth, assists in blood clotting, muscle contraction, and nerve transmission.
  • Chromium - assists in the metabolism of glucose and regulates blood sugar.
  • Cobalt - promotes the formation of red blood cells.
  • Copper - promotes normal red-blood cell formation, connective tissue formation and central nervous system function. By storing and releasing iron, copper contributes to hemoglobin formation.
  • Iodine - required by the thyroid hormone to support metabolism.
  • Iron - important in red blood cell formation, energy and cognitive function.
  • Magnesium - supports nerves and muscles and activates over 100 enzymes.
  • Molybdenum - contributes to growth and development.
  • Phosphorous - works with calcium to contribute to healthy bones and teeth.
  • Potassium - regulates heartbeat, fluid balance, and helps muscles contract.
  • Selenium - an essential component of a key antioxidant enzyme, also necessary for normal growth and development.
  • Sulfur - required for muscle protein and helps with soft, healthy hair.
  • Zinc - found in every fluid, tissue, cell and organ throughout the human body with high concentrates in the brain. Inadequate intake can affect over 200 enzymes involved in digestion, metabolism, reproduction and wound healing.
  • Cinnamon bark essential oil - antiviral, antibacterial and a strong antioxidant. It also contains high levels of phenols – oxygenating compounds which function as catalysts.
  • Lemon essential oil - promotes leukocyte production, which is an important factor in the immune system.
  • Peppermint essential oil - antibacterial and a first-rate support for the immune system, also supports digestion
As with all other Young Living supplements, the addition of essential oils to Mineral Essence is key! The essential oils have their own benefits for the body, but they also enhance the bioavailability of the minerals, making Young Living's Mineral Essence superior to any mineral supplement on the market!

Daily Habits with Mineral Essence
Add Mineral Essence to your daily supplement routine!

Take 5 half-droppers (1 ml each) morning and evening or as needed as a mineral supplement. May be added to 4-8 oz. of distilled/purified water or juice before drinking. We recommend adding to cranberry juice if needed as the supplement has a spicy, mineral flavor. Shake well before using and refrigerate after opening.

Apply Mineral Essence to the skin or mix with epsom salts in the bath to allow for absorption through the skin! Note, however, that this route of administration will provide less absorption than ingestion.

Use Mineral Essence to promote hair growth and recoverySimply drop Mineral Essence onto the scalp and massage in gently. Let sit for 20-30 minutes, then wash hair with gentle, sulfate-free shampoo.

Add Mineral Essence to your daily NingXia Red for even more robust results.

Make a mineralizing mouthwash:
  • Mix ½ bottle of Thieves Fresh Essence Mouthwash with ½ bottle of Mineral Essence and shake well.
Try this Golden Mango Sunrise Tonic for daily health and longevity:
  • 2-4 oz NingXia Red
  • 5 half droppersful Mineral Essence
  • ½ tsp Golden Turmeric powder
  • Organic low-sugar lemonade or pineapple juice
  • Mineral or coconut water + ice as desired
Note: This product contains royal jelly, which may cause allergic reactions, especially in those with bee or honey allergies.

Hello summer. Warm weather, sunshine-filled days and vacations (or staycations) are on the agenda, and we are ready for it all - with our favorite oils and Young Living products in tow! Here are some of our best tips, tricks, recipes and DIYs for enjoying the summer months to the fullest.

Summer Skin

Two simple steps for getting that beach body:
1. Have a body.
2. Go to the beach.

Of course, it wouldn't hurt if our skin was smooth & glowing too right?! A few of our favorite summer body DIYS!

Margarita Body Scrub via Hello Glow
  • 1/2 cup salt (You can use regular salt, kosher salt or leftover margarita salt)
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1-2 tablespoons tequila
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • A few drops of Lime EO
Mix all ingredients together in a small bowl until you have a paste. Add more olive oil if needed. Then scrub away in the shower. One note of caution – use the scrub before you shave, not after, because it might burn. The tequila and lime juice are natural antiseptics, the salt exfoliates any dead skin, and the olive oil adds lots of moisture!
Grapefruit Body Smoothing Oil
  • Cel-Lite Magic Massage Oil
  • Grapefruit Essential Oil
In your hands, mix together one pump of Cel-Lite Magic + one drop of Grapefruit. Massage into legs and arms in a circular motion. Continue on any areas that need a little extra smoothing & get your beauty sleep! Be sure to shower before going out in the sun!
DIY Summer Glow Serum
Ditch all the other moisturizers and serums because this one is the game changer! Apply morning and evening for healthy, glowing skin. (PS - CBD Beauty Boost has been nicknamed ‘Botox in a Bottle' so you know it's good!)
DIY Vitamin C Facial Toner
Vitamin C and Geranium are a dynamic duo when it comes to brightening the skin. Try out this simple toner as we head into the summer!
  • 2 oz glass dropper bottle
  • 1&1/2 tsp Organic vitamin C powder
  • 5 drops Geranium essential oil
  • 3 Tbsp distilled water
  • Splash alcohol-free witch hazel (optional for more oil-prone skin)
Mix vitamin C powder into the water until dissolved, then add Geranium and top with a splash of witch hazel (optional). Use morning and evening or as desired.
Store up to 2 weeks at room temperature or longer in the fridge.
Moisturizing Oatmeal Soak
Sun and wind and heat can leave the skin needing a little extra moisture. Give your skin (and your whole self!) some TLC with a long, luxurious soak with these simple but effective ingredients.

Wellness 101

School may be out for the summer, but we aren't getting lax on our wellness routines. Summer is a great time to really focus on great daily wellness habits that we can continue when the colder months arrive! Here are five simple things we're dong everyday this summer to focus on true self-care and overall health.

Master Formula
Our favorite daily multivitamin that packs a HUGE nutritional punch and helps us work towards daily wellness. The prepackaged capsules make traveling with this supplement so easy, too. Check out the Master Formula Supplement Spotlight bog post for more on this daily favorite.

Daily Red (NingXia Red, that is!)
If there were only one habit that you can start or continue during the summer, a daily dose of NingXia Red would be it. This delicious supplement is a powerhouse of antioxidants and nutrients that we want for everyone in the family. Check out the NingXia Red Spotlight blog post for more on this incredible supplement.

Wellness Roller
This bend is something we use year round to help keep our immune systems on the go! We roll this blend over the lymph nodes, on the feet, or along the spine morning and evening year round, then us it more frequently as needed. To a 10 mL roller bottle, add:
  • 25 drops each Thieves, Pine & Lemon
  • 20 drops each Geranium & Frankincense
  • fill with a carrier oil of choice
Note: If you plan to be in direct sunlight, apply this somewhere your clothing will cover.
Diffusing 24/7
If we are awake (and even overnight too), our diffuser is on . Diffusing is such an incredible health habit. Not only will your home or office (and car too) smell amazing, you get the health benefits of breathing in the oils.

  • Start the morning off with Raven + Lemon to get everyone going and support the airways
  • Set the stage for a peaceful midday rest with Lavender + Grapefruit + Vanilla.
  • Bring the 'afternoon pick-me-up' vibes of a cup of coffee with Peppermint + Tangerine + Stress Away.
  • End your day with Thieves + Cedarwood to boost immunity and promote restful sleep.
Ditching and Switching
One of the biggest impacts you can have on your health is by ditching conventional products that are FULL of toxins and fragrance. Sadly these ingredients are often hidden or disguised by clever marking (greenwashing anyone?) or renamed as things that sound more natural. Here are a few simple swaps to make this summer.

Sweet Summertime DIYs

Fun in the Sun

'Tis the season for hot, sunshine-filled days, and we want to soak in every second of it while staying safe and health. Here are our top three necessities for safe, healthy fun in the sun.

Hands-down, the Young Living Mineral Sunscreen is our favorite sunscreen. It checks all of our boxes - reef safe, effective, all natural, great for all skin types, non-nano zinc, won't clog pores. What else is there?

Quick Tip - Make YL's Mineral Sunscreen application easy with this hack! Makes it even easier to apply, especially with kids by adding some to your hands and apply to the face.

LavaDerm After Sun Spray is your first aid kit BFF! LavaDerm brings relief from the pain and itching of minor burns, cuts, sunburns, scrapes, insect bites, or really any minor skin irritation. Whether or not your skin has seen a little too much sun or wind, this spray will help you feel soothed and refreshed. Apply after a day outdoors for a sigh of relief.

Quick Tip - If you need some relief ASAP and don't have any LavaDerm on hand, try this DIY After Sun Spray:

No one wants to come in from a wonderful day outdoors with tons of itchy bites from outdoor pests... and you won't have to with the Young Living Insect Repellent! This liquid formula effectively prevents mosquito, flea, and tick bits - so you can enjoy the great outdoors worry free.

This incredible formula is gentle enough for the little ones, yet effective. You can use an empty Thieves Surface Spray bottle for easy applications. It is also available as wipes, with makes application on the go super easy!

Grab the Insect Repellent bottle and make it into a spray for easy use:
  • Continuous spray bottle
  • Bottle of YL Insect Repellent
  • 3 tbsp fractioned coconut oil or ClaraDerm Spray
  • 20 drops Citronella essential oil
Add all items to the spray bottle, but add the insect repellent last (it will not all fit!)
Quick Tip - If you live in a state that has shipping exclusions for the Insect Repellant, try the wipes! Still can't order because of limitations - add a spray top directly to your bottle of Citronella. Also try this DIY Outdoor Spray. To a small continuous spray bottle, add:
  • 25 drops each Citronella, Geranium, Lemongrass, & Lavender
  • 20 drops Eucalyptus Radiata & Tea Tree
  • V-6 Vegetable Oil or carrier of choice
Note: if you want to use a larger bottle, simply double the recipe. Also, if you feel you need a stronger formula or are expertly susceptible to outdoor pests, add more Citronella, Lemongrass and/or Geranium.
Citronella, Lemongrass and/or Geranium!
DIY Itch Stick - for those times you forget your insect repellent! In a rollerball, combine 10 drops Purification, 10 drops Lavender, and 10 drops Lemon, and top with a carrier oil. Roll on bug bites & itches.

Quick tip! - Dining outside & want to keep the bugs away? Grab an outdoor fan, put a few drops of Citronella + Geranium on a clothespin (or two!) & attach to the front of the fan & you have yourself a giant outdoor diffuser!

Photosensitive Oils

Summer and citrus oils are synonymous, and we are all about using citrus oils this time of year. As always, we want to keep everyone healthy and safe, so make sure to separate application of citrus oils and exposure to sunlight. As a general rule, avoid direct UV exposure to an area where you applied citrus oils for a minimum of 12 hours, up to 48 hours.

WHY?
Citrus Oils (and some others) contain natural molecules that react with sunlight and cause sensitivity to the skin. All of the Young Living oils and blends that contain these compounds re labeled with a warming to avoid sun/UV light for 12 to 48 hours after applying.

Does that mean you have to put your beloved Grapefruit and Bergamot away for the summer? NO WAY! Just apply to areas that won't be exposed to the sun for at least 24 hours (basically under your clothes). And you can always diffuse.

Beach Essentials

Summertime and beach trips are synonymous, and we are ready for all the sunshine and sand. Here's what we're packing in our beach bags this year.

Quick tip - Easily remove all the sand from everyone's feet, legs, and hands with Seedlings Baby Wipes. We keep a pack in every bag for easy sand removal and clean, fresh hands.

NingXia Red Recipes

Daily Red is a thing in our household - everyone gets their NingXia Red every day! And whether we just want to mix thing up a bit or want a healthier alternative to conventional options, these NingXia Red recipes are favorites in our summer rotation.

Superfood Lemonade Popicles
These simple, delicious popsicles are a HUGE hit in our house, and my kids love to help make them. The best part is you can't mess them up. There isn't a specific amount of each ingredient needed, so just pour a little of each item into your mold and go.
Quick Tip - Heading out to the pool, beach or a hike? Simply freeze your NingXia packets overnight, then pack in a plastic bag and enjoy that afternoon as a cool, slushy-like treat.

Anytime NingXia Spritzers
Whether you're pool side, riding in the car or simply lounging on your couch or porch, this spritzer is the perfect companion. But be warned, your kids/friends/husband will want to setal it.
Go Red Electrolyte Replacement
Ditch the artificially flavored and colored electrolyte drinks and whip up your own with this simple recipe. You can also always grab the Lavender Lemonade or Grapefruit Bergamot Vitality Drops for a quick electrolyte boost as well.
  • 1 cup coconut water
  • 4 oz NingXia Red
  • 1 lemon juiced
  • 1 lime juiced
  • 1-2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1/8 tsp pink Himalayan sea salt
  • 1-2 drops Young Living Vitality of choice: Tangerine, Orange, Lime, Citrus Fresh or Grapefruit
  • 1/2 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp coconut oil
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Mix all ingredients in a blender with some ice for one of the most refreshing drinks EVER. You could even do this without a blender - just throw everything in a shaker cup and enjoy.

Clove and Frankincense are powerhouse oils on their own, packed with antioxidants and wonderful for longevity!

  • Laurus Nobilis - commonly known as bay laurel or bay leaf, Laurus Nobilis essential oil contains antioxidants, offers cleansing properties, and helps provide immune support when taken as a dietary supplement.
  • Helichrysum - Helichrysum is an incredible oil for soothing any need where the body is inflamed. It is also great for emotions. Helichrysum is called "honey for the psyche" because of its lightly sweet scent and its ability to help us process and release the effects of trauma.

  • Western Red Cedar - Beneficial to the emotions, the respiratory system, and the skin, this oil can be used for many things including immune support. Lavender Essential Oil
from Courtney Critz

Lavender makes me think of a wonderful grandmother. Soft and huggable, gentle, smells like flowers, calming, and the one you want around if you are sad, tired, or need comforting. She has experience and wisdom and seems to be able to fix every problem. She is soft-spoken and makes you feel more rested the moment she's around. And she seems to have that perfect knack with any baby.

For centuries lavender has been used for sleep. It has been put into pillows and mattresses, wrapped up with clothes, added to handkerchiefs (hello, diffuser) and used in aromatherapy for relaxation. It has been added to all kinds of tonics and potions for skin and smelling salts for fragile ladies whose corsets were tied a little too tight.

Unfortunately, over the years, many "lavender" scented items became filled with synthetics and fillers which actually irritated our airways and lost all of their benefits. People even started giving lavender a bad reputation as being unsafe because of all the synthetic, chemical-laden products that had been used bearing its name. There is more lavender oil sold than grown in the world which doesn't really add up right.

But, hooray!, Young Living began growing and distilling its own lavender to ensure a high quality oil, making sure that we had the real thing again. I've planted and harvested it myself in Idaho and Utah! I mean, who wants a fake grandmother? Little Red Riding Hood can tell you that is NOT a good plan.

Today we use our Young Living Lavender Oil in many similar ways. In our lotions, bath products, sleep roll-ons, diffusers, and on our precious babies. It is a gentle oil with a calming effect on everything from our respiratory systems, to our skin, to our emotions. So when you have a problem and you want something to be comforted, whether it's your irritated nose, your foot, or your baby, remember The Grandmother of all oils and give her a try.

Background

Did you know that lavender is part of the mint family and is one of Young Living's most popular oils? Young Living has three farms that grow lavender, located in Utah, Idaho, and France - ooh la la!! Lavender is steam distilled from the flowering tops of the plant, and it takes 27 square feet of lavender plants to make one 15 ml bottle of Lavender essential oil. In ancient Greece, Pedanius Dioscorides, a physician pharmacologist and botanist, praised the many qualities and uses of lavender. You can find Lavender essential oil in many Young Living blends, including Stress AwayTranquil Roll-OnRutaVaLa Roll-OnForgiveness, and Harmony

Key Constituents
*Constituents are naturally occurring compounds in plants (and therefore essential oils) that give them specific health-supporting properties

  • Linalyl acetate - has high quality antioxidant properties and has been shown to support the cardiovascular system as well as the body's response to ischemic injury.
  • Linalool - has been shown to support the body's response to pain inflammation, may help improve sleep, and is considered to support the immune and central nervous systems
Lavender & Emotions

Lavender is great for the many common fears we are tempted to give into:
  • Fear of Abandonment, being left alone.
By rubbing lavender over the abdomen and using the mantra "I embrace all life's experiences" can help us be open to self-reliance and our contentment to all things. The opposite of abandonment is not being fully self-reliant, but being connected to everything working together for our good.
  • Fear of Criticism.
This one is huge, especially if you are in a line of work where you put yourself out there often (or if you have a high-maintenance toddler too!). Using Lavender as perfume while pairing it with mantras and unconditional love for ourselves can be a great practice for developing self confidence!
  • Fear of New Things, fear of moving forward.
Sometimes there are big transitions in life and sometimes it seems scary to open ourselves up to change. Lavender has a beautiful way of calming the central nervous system to help us be more open to change and gaining positive momentum.
Product Options
*Note: Lavender and Lavender Vitality are the same essential oil. Lavender  Vitality is simply labeled differently for internal use.

Head On Roller - 20 drops Peppermint, Copaiba, & Lavender, 10 drops Frankincense. Fill with V-6 carrier or carrier oil of choice and roll over temples, across the forehead, on the back of the neck and shoulders.

Seasons Change Roller Blend - 15 drops each Lavender, Lemon, Peppermint, Tea Tree, Copaiba, then fill with carrier. Roll over the chest, wrists, just below the nostrils. This also makes a great combination for an epsom salt bath or a diffuser blend!

COMPANION PRODUCTS
Testimonies

There are SO many reasons to love Lavender, but don't just take it from us. Check out these community testimonies about this versatile oil!

  • “Lavender is one of my favorite oils. I diffuse it every night with Cedarwood to help calm my kids. A few of my favorite ways to use it is to apply it topically with a roller, add a drop or two to my mascara to help my lashes grow, add it to my baths with Epsom salts for relaxation and add it to my skin serum I make with my oils. I pretty much use it for everything!”
  • “Lavender was the oil that got me started with Young Living! I use it to support a restful night of sleep every night. It is a constant on my monthly order. I also love using 2-3 drops of lavender on wool dryer balls in a load of laundry.”
  • “I love to diffuse it when we homeschool and it just brings the whole house into a calming frame of mind.”
  • “Lavender is my 3 year old's favorite oil. When she gets an “owie” she always asks for it and a kiss. I love that it's that easy.”
  • “Lavender is a go to oil for so many things. An odd use has been rubbing this on the bridge of my nose. Why? A few years back my eyes began watering and always felt like they had tiny rocks in them. Eye drops helped but that meant the rest of my life. I discovered lavender in the bridge of my nose stops all the effects and my eye doctor was pleased.”
  • “I applied lavender on my sweet baby girl this morning as part of her wellness roller and currently it's going in our bedroom - my firefighter husband asked for it while he napped, regaining his rest from working through the flood down here. So grateful for the sweet gift that Lavender is to our family!”
  • “I love lavender! I used mine today in my seasonal roller along with lemon, peppermint, and copaiba.”

Lemon has so many awesome uses. Read all about Lemon on this blog post.

R.C. Essential Oil Blend

R.C. is a winter must! R.C. stands for ‘Respiratory Comfort' and for good reason. This soothing blend of eucalyptus oils is great for the airways. The soothing aroma is a favorite during the cold weather months, but we love it year round creating a spa-inspired setting.

  • Use 10 drops of R.C. in 2 Tbsp coconut oil for a simple chest rub.
  • Diffuse with Lemon, Lavender or Thieves, apply a couple drops to the bottom of the feet, add 5 drops to Epsom salts for a soothing soak, drop onto the floor of the shower to open the airways.

Inner Defense

Inner Defense are liquid softgels, which dissolve easily to reinforce your system's defenses, create unfriendly terrain for yeast/fungus, promote healthy respiratory function, and contain potent essential oils like oregano, thyme, and Thieves which are rich in thymol, carvacrol, and eugenol for immune support. In short, these powerhouse capsules provide a defense for your body!

  • Take 1 softgel each morning for maintenance. Take with food, especially healthy fat. For best results, use Life 9 supplement 8 hours after using Inner Defense.
  • Take 1 softgel 3−5 times daily for more acute needs. (Pro tip: for younger children, use a needle to poke a hole in the capsule and rub it along their spine, bottom of the feet!)

Sulfurzyme Capsules or Powder

Sulfurzyme combines wolfberry with MSM, a naturally occurring organic form of dietary sulfur needed by our bodies every day to maintain the structure of proteins, protect cells and cell membranes, replenish the connections between cells, and preserve the molecular framework of connective tissue. This supplement not only supports digestion, it promotes healthy hair, skin, nails, joints and immunity!

  • Take 2 capsules 2 times daily or as needed 1 hour before or after meals.
  • Mix ½ tsp. of powder with NingXia Red or distilled water and take twice daily. Best taken 1 hour before or after meals.
Read more about SulfurZyme on this Supplement Spotlight blog post.

Golden Turmeric

Golden Turmeric is a delicious mango rose turmeric drink that supports the body's natural response to inflammation, immune response, joint health, mobility, and recovery after exercise. YL's Golden Turmeric is infused with essential oils and boswellia resin, making it 24 times more bioavailable than standard turmeric extract. We love this supplement year round, but it is especially important when you're ramping up your fitness routine.

  • Mix ½ teaspoon in 6–8 ounces of water, juice, or milk of choice once daily.
Check out the Golden Turmeric Supplement Spotlight for more information on this supplement.

NingXia Red

It's no secret that we are crazy about NingXia Red. Use this incredible supplement for 30 consecutive days and you'll see why!

Honestly, we're better people when we drink it. Sound a little far-fetched? Think about it. Do cars run better when fueled by the right gas? Yep. Yet we often expect our bodies to run on second-rate, processed, non-fuel. We get worn out, our digestive systems get tired, our cells get dirty, and we need something we can assimilate quickly and easily to go to work. NingXia gives our bodies the boost that we need!

Bergamot Oil Spotlight - Feb 2023

Essential Oil Spotlight

Bergamot is a household staple oil for so many things! The crisp, citrusy aroma is uplifting and harmonizing, and it makes a wonderful addition to DIYs and diffuser blends. This oil is one we love to have around!

  • Uplifts the emotions and senses
  • Contains antioxidants that help support a healthy lifestyle
  • Helps support the cardiovascular system
  • Is a wonderful choice for combating oily skin
Background

Bergamot is cultivated primarily in southern Italy and has been used in the Middle East for hundreds of years as a flavoring, perfume, and addition to moisturizers and cosmetics. Cold pressed from the fresh bergamot fruit that gives Earl Grey tea its distinctive flavor, Bergamot Vitality essential oil has a fresh, complex citrus taste that makes it the perfect addition to many summer dishes.

Key Constituents

  • Linalyl Acetate
Bergamot & Beauty

When it comes to skincare, Bergamot can be a great choice! It helps combat oil production, acne & psoriasis. Add it to a roller to use on T-zone or problem areas or add to your daily moisturizer.

Bergamot is also a huge component for many perfumes due to its ability to balance the mix of aromas and harmonize all of the essences. Some of our favorite pairings are:
Bergamot & Emotions

Bergamot essential oil has been studied for its properties to lower cortisol (stress hormone) and to lower the body's sympathetic nervous response (fight/flight/freeze), making this a wonderful oil for emotional support!

Bergamot has a woodsy, sweet, citrus aroma that is so uplifting to our moods. Bergamot helps decrease stress and is a wonderfully calming oil! Bergamot is often referred to as the harmonizer, helping us level out and identify our emotions. Citrus oils in general are great for creating a calm, uplifting mood.

DiGize Oil Spotlight - Jan 2023

DiGize Essential Oil Spotlight

DiGize essential oil blend combines Tarragon, Ginger, Peppermint, Juniper, Lemongrass, Anise, and Patchouli oils for a spicy, blend known to soothe the stomach. It also contains Fennel essential oil, which people have used for a broad range of purposes since the ancient Egyptians like aiding digestion and elimination. While usually not everyone's favorite scent, it is often their favorite instant result when used after meals!

One of the ways I used to feel the most powerless when taking care of our health prior to oils was with any type of stomach discomfort. Then we found DiGize. Now every member of my family knows to grab that red bottle at the first signs of rumblings.

DiGize is formulated to provide a calming aromatic experience. The complex aroma comes from the variety of oils in the blend. Tarragon and Ginger provide the herbaceous and spicy undertones, while Juniper and Patchouli combine for a calming aroma.

  • Fennel - has been used for a broad range of purposes dating back to ancient Egypt
  • Ginger - has a calming aroma
  • Peppermint - provides a cooling, uplifting fragrance
DiGize at a Glance

  • Has an herbaceous, spicy aroma
  • Soothing when used topically as part of an abdominal massage
  • Includes Peppermint Vitality, which is known to support gastrointestinal function
  • Cleansing and soothing to the digestive system
  • Contains antioxidants

Key Constituents
Constituents are naturally occurring compounds in plants (and therefore essential oils) that give them specific health-supporting properties.

  • Trans anethole

DiGize & Emotions

Did you know that all of our essential oils have stress relieving benefits - even if they don't have a special name? It's easy to remember to grab the Joy, Stress Away, or Peace & Calming when it comes to dealing with less “physical” issues, but when you put together a list of your must have basic oils, no matter what they are, they will all be supporting your emotional functions as well.

One of the heavy-hitters in the list up of basic oils is DiGize. It can help us process feelings of being disillusioned with life and people. We all have moments where we need some of that to focus back on the future and all the hope available there.

DiGize can also help release feelings of anger or frustration as it supports digestion and the liver.

DiGize Vitality

DiGize Vitality is the same essential oil blend as DiGize. It is simply relabeled for internal use.

Daily Habits with DiGize

Add DiGize to V-6™ Vegetable Oil Complex or other carrier and massage it over the abdomen to soothe digestive needs.

Make a ‘Tummy' roller to apply over the stomach as needed for digestive support:
  • 10 mL roller bottle
  • 15 drops DiGize
  • Optional: 10 drops each Lemon, Peppermint
  • Carrier of choice
Apply DiGize diluted or in a roller over the stomach and liver to support release of toxic emotions. This works best when paired with strong affirmations.

When traveling, inhale DiGize directly from the bottle for soothing comfort.

Add DiGize Vitality™ to a capsule and take it daily to help support the digestive system.

Add a drop of DiGize Vitality™ to a large glass of water and drink as needed for digestive support.

Make a soothing tea with antioxidant properties by adding honey and DiGize Vitality to warm water or herbal tea of choice.

Take DiGize Vitality and Essentialzymes-4™ before your meals to support healthy digestion and overall wellness.

Use with lavender and lemon to ease seasonal respiratory complaints.

Winter Wonderland Diffuser Recipes - Dec 2022

Winter Wonderland Diffuser Blends

Whether you're walking in a winter wonderland or basking in the warm sunshine this time of year, this collection of diffuser blends will bring you all the cozy feelings of the season!

Nature itself shows us that winter is a time to slow down, to rest, to find presence with those around us. It is a time of shorter days and longer nights, of cooler temperatures and warm fireplaces. And no matter where this winter finds you, we hope it is surrounded by joy and beauty within the day to day.

These blends feature tree oils, mint, and citrus, plus the warm scents of spice oils like Vanilla and Cinnamon Bark. Tree oils are emotionally calming and wonderful for grounding our hearts and minds during this season of slowness. Tree oils are also wonderful for the immune system, which is perfect during a time of gathering with loved ones!

Citrus oils are happy and uplifting, adding a brightness to these blends that is welcoming and comforting. Peppermint is crisp and clear like freshly fallen snow and cool winter air and pairs perfectly with tree oils and citrus. The blends often finish with a hint of warmth from Vanilla, Clove or Cinnamon Bark or with a sweetness from uplifting floral oils like Joy and Ylang Ylang.

Our diffusers are running 24/7 in our homes, supporting our immune systems, respiratory systems, emotions, cleansing the air and making things smell happy and inviting all at the same time. Join us this month as we diffuse these favorite blends for love and connection.

LIFE HACK - You can easily transform these blends into roller recipes and sprays!

To make a 10 mL roller from any recipe - triple the number of drops to make a total of 35-45 total drops, add a carrier of choice (we love V-6 Vegetable Oil Complex) and you're good to go.

To make a 2 oz spray from any recipe - double the number of drops to a total of about 25 drops, ad a splash of witch hazel and fill with filtered water. Spray on upholstered surfaces, bedding, rugs, anywhere you want to freshen!

Check it - many of these recipes contain the Gifts with Purchase oils in December. Get the everyday products you need and get free oils to use in the diffuser too!

Happy diffusing!!

Evergreen Essence & Emotions

Evergreen Essence is a blend of conifer oils, all of which contain alpha-pinene, a constituent that helps the mind and body reach a calming, peaceful environment. Tree oils can be a wonderful tool for processing feelings of Unimportant, Un-nurtured or Disempowered. The Spruce and Evergreen family of oils are the ones to reach for when you feel like you are comparing yourself to others, are feeling undervalued or as though your unique voice has no place. The alternate side to feeling unimportant is Empowerment. When we can rest secure in who we are then comparison melts away and our unique blend of magic can shine!

A 2011 study in Pharmacognosy Magazine looked at the anxiolytic effects of an alcohol based pine needle extract and its ability to soothe depression in rats. Bottom line: however you approach it, pine and other conifer essential oils can be powerful health tools!
Interestingly, we are often drawn to these oils during the colder months, when we are gathering with friends and family, remembering years past, and even grieving the things we have lost. Pine, Spruce, and Fir are calming and grounding and help us connect to feelings of strength and protection, which is something we need while processing those emotions. Adding Evergreen Essence to your daily routine is a wonderful way to support mental and emotional health during these times!

Read more about how to process and release emotions in this powerful book Releasing Emotional Patterns with Essential Oils.

Even better, add oils to the wool balls after you empty dry clothes from the dryer so you're all set for the next load.
Step 3 - When it's time to dry your clothes - toss the dryer balls into the dryer with your clothing. Refresh the oils every 4-5 loads or more often if you prefer a stronger scent.

  • Fill the jar or pitcher almost full of water and add a splash of witch hazel. Add about 20-30 drops of oil and stir with a silicone or metal spoon. Hold your tree upside down for about a minute in the water, then take it out and let it air dry!
Spiced Orange & Cranberry Garland
This is one of our favorite things to do every year. It is beautiful, smells amazing, adds a festive touch to any room and is so easy to make!
  • About 5 oranges or a mix of oranges, clementines and grapefruit for varied sizes and colors
  • Essential oils: Christmas Spirit, Cinnamon Bark, Vanilla, Clove, Believe, Thieves
  • Fresh cranberries and cinnamon sticks
Step 1 - Slice your oranges in circles to ¼ to ½ inch in thickness and arrange them on a non-stick surface or parchment paper. Pour 2-3 drops of essential oils on each slice, then set them in a cool oven and turn the temperature onto the lowest setting your oven will allow. (If your oven does not go below 300, set it there and use a wooden spoon to prop the oven open slightly and allow some heat to dissipate.)
Step 2 - Leave the slices in the oven for about 5 hours, then shut the oven off and leave the oranges in there overnight or until completely cool. They will be fairly dry, but will continue to dry out over time. You don't want to over dry them in the oven because they can start to burn!
Alternatively, you can use a dehydrator, if you have one.
Step 3 - Once they are dry, string them with some twine, alternating with a few varying sized slices and a cranberry or two, a tied cinnamon stick, whatever you like! Hang them in your home for some delicious smelling holiday cheer!

Whether you are hosting family and friends, having a night at home with your family or just want a little something fun and festive in yoru day, try out these delicious food and drink recipes!

Peppermint Brownies

This might be the simplest essential oil recipe ever... Just add 4-5 drops of Peppermint Vitality Essential Oil to your mix (or from scratch recipe!) after you add the wet ingredients and bake as directed. Once cooled - use your favorite holiday cookie cutters to create fun shapes. Optional to top with a layer of chocolate frosting (with or without a few drops of Peppermint Vitality) or powdered sugar. These are fun to make for parties, neighbors or just because!

Peppermint Mocha
  • 2 cups strongly brewed coffee or espresso
  • 2 cups milk of your choice
  • ¼ cup cacao powder (you can also use 2T cocoa powder + 3 oz dark chocolate chopped)
  • 4 tablespoons maple syrup or raw honey
  • 3-4 drops Peppermint Vitality
Step 1 - Pour milk into a small saucepan and place over medium heat. Whisk in the cacao powder (or whatever chocolate you're using) and the maple syrup. Bring to a simmer, reduce heat to medium-low, and simmer uncovered for 5-10 minutes, whisking as needed until smooth.
Step 2 - Remove from the heat and when slightly cooled add 2 drops of Peppermint Vitality (the flavor is bold, so start with 2 drops and add more if you want!) Place the peppermint cocoa mixture and the coffee in a Vitamix or other high-powered blender (or use a handheld frother), and blend on medium speed for 30 seconds until frothy. Divide into 4 mugs, top with whipped cream, marshmallows, or both!

Once the tea is prepared the eggnog is heated, combine in a mug and let cool slightly, then add a drop of Nutmeg Vitality. Use a hand-held frother, blender or electric milk frother to combine.
Step 2 - This serves one, so you can double or triple if you need to, top with a sprinkle of Ground Cinnamon and enjoy! You could easily make this with coffee and can add sweetener to taste like honey or maple syrup if you want.

Simple Crafts for the Holidays

Whether your kiddos are coming out of school for a few weeks or you just want some simple, fun activities for the season, here are some of our favorite festive crafts to do together this season!

Clay Leaf Dish
This simple craft gets everyone outdoors and can even be a school project with just a little imagination! It makes a lovely oil tray or a handmade gift.
  • Air dry clay
  • Craft paper
  • Rolling pin
  • Craft paint (we like the metallic colors!) + brushes
  • Modge Podge gloss or other sealer
  • Various leaves from your yard
Step 1 - Cut out a piece of air dry clay, then roll it out onto craft paper to about 1/2 inch thick, making sure your leaf will fit. Then, press your leaf (vein side down) onto the clay. Remove the leaf from the clay, and cut around the outline with a knife, then remove the excess clay from around your imprint.
Step 2 - Go around the perimeter of the leaf and gently press the sides up and in to create a small edge. Allow the clay to air dry and harden on a baking rack for 24 hours.
Step 3 - Paint! Once the paint is dry, cover with a coat of Modge Podge gloss, then dry for 24 hours. After the sealer is dry, have your children sign the back and write the year.
Essential Oil Infused Play Dough
This is a fun one to get your children to make with you OR to make and surprise them with after school!
  • 2 cups flour (can use gluten-free if desired)
  • 1 cup salt
  • 2 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 Tbsp olive or coconut oil
  • 2 cups cold water
  • 5 drops essential oil: Lavender, Peace & Calming, Tangerine, Believe
  • Natural food coloring, optional
Step 1 - Mix flour, salt, cream of tartar, oil, and water in a medium saucepan. Stir over medium heat for about 5 minutes, until the dough has reached the right consistency.
Step 2 - Let cool, split into 3 balls, and knead in essential oils and optional food coloring until it is distributed evenly throughout each ball of playdough. Store in airtight container.
We hope you enjoy this Holiday Handbook. Bring the family together and try some of these projects! May your days be merry & bright!
