August Ditch & Switch

As the gatekeepers of our home we have such a great opportunity to bring in healthy products and create healthy habits for ourselves and families!

• Sodium Laurel Sulfate (SLS): SLS promotes the foaming action of conventional toothpastes, but does nothing as far as efficacy. It has been linked to the development of canker sores and can change the way the taste buds work. (This is why everything tastes bad after you brush your teeth!)
• Triclosan: This chemical is common in toothpaste and has been linked to antibiotic resistance and endocrine disruption. Disruption in the endocrine system can create serious effects, especially over time. This is also an active ingredient in hand sanitizers.
• Artificial Dyes and Colors: To make the blue or red stripe that is perfectly placed in the middle of the toothpaste, manufacturers add food coloring, often a petroleum based product. Red 40 , Yellow 5 and Yellow 6 are the worst according to a report from the Center for Science in the Public Interest. Some of these food dyes come with side effects like hyperactivity and hypersensitivity reactions.
• Propylene Glycol: Propylene glycol is used as the surfactant in conventional toothpaste to promote foaming. It is found extensively in paints, enamels, and antifreeze. Pharmaceutical grade propylene glycol is common in personal care products. Unfortunately, it can cause skin, lung and eye irrational.
• Titanium Dioxide: White titanium dioxide is added to make toothpaste white, and is entirely unnecessary. It is also found in supplements, added to foods and to make paint white. Titanium dioxide is currently under review as far as its safety.

How to use your August

Thieves Dish Soap

• Add 1 tablespoon Thieves Dish Soap and a few drops of Lemon essential oil to a sink full of warm water before doing dishes.
• Your dishes will be shiny and clean, and your task will be much more enjoyable.

• 2 tablespoons of Thieves Dish Soap
• 10 drops of Lavender
• Fill with water, and clean!

• 30 mL roller bottle (or empty 15 ml bottle with a roller ball for a half recipe)
• fill just under half with Thieves Dish Soap
• Add 10 drops Lemon essential oil
• fill remainder with Thieves Household Cleaner
• Use to spot treat any stains before washing

• Fill 1/3 with Thieves Dish Soap
• Fill 1/3 with Thieves Household Cleaner
• 10 drops Lavender
• 10 drops Tea Tree
• 10 drops Rosemary
• fill with water and gently invert to mix well
• To use, simply wash per usual or to target the scalp or needed areas, use the dish soap to apply to desired areas, then gently massage in well. Let sit for a few minutes before rinsing. 

Lushious Lemon 

• 15 drops Lushious Lemon essential oil blend
• 1-2 capfuls Thieves Household Cleaner
• Fill with water and gently invert to mix
• Use on all surfaces

• 1/2 cup Baking Soda
• 10 drops Lushious Lemon essential oil blend
• 1-2 tablespoons Thieves Household Cleaner

• 1 teaspoon Thieves Household Cleaner
• 10 drops Lushious Lemon oil blend
• Fill with water
• Spray on upholstered surfaces to refresh as desired.

• 1 cup baking soda
• 1/4 cup to 1/3 cup distilled water
• 25 drops Lushious Lemon oil blend
• 1 silicone mold
  Step 1 - Add the baking soda to a glass mixing bowl and add 1/4 cup distilled water to the consistency of damp sand. Add water if needed.
  Step 2 - Add essential oil and continue to stir until well mixed, then scoop into a silicone mold. Use the back of a spoon or your fingers to compress the mixture to ensure there are no air pockets.
  Step 3 - Allow to dry in molds overnight. Once completely dry, remove from the molds and store in a glass jar.
  To use: Place the steamer your shower floor (out of direct water flow) and inhale the bright scent of Lushious Lemon.

Lemongrass Essential Oil

• 20 drops Lemongrass essential oil
• 10 drops each Lavender & Tangerine (optional
• Fill with water and spritz over linens, towels, clothes - anything really!

• 1 cup epsom salt
• 1/2 cup sea salt (or more epsom salt)
• 1/2 cup baking soda
• 20-30 drops Lemongrass (add in Lavender, Rosemary, Tangerine, Peppermint or other oils as desired)
  Combine all the ingredients well. Let it sit to air dry a bit and then cover.
  To use - add 2-3 tablespoons of the mix directly to the load.

• Laundry Day Blend: Lemongrass + Lavender + Tangerine + Rosemary
• Citrus Shine: Lemongrass + Lemon + Tangerine
• Garden Breeze: Lemongrass + Rosemary + Peppermint
• Orchard Stroll: Lemongrass + Bergamot + Grapefruit

Thieves Wipes

• Cell phones, e-readers, tablets, remotes
• Kids toys and games
• Glassware or mugs in hotel rooms
• Car door handles, consoles, and carseats
• Hands after touching menus, stair railings, anything grimy

Thieves Foaming Hand Soap

• Add 10 drops of Cedarwood or Frankincense to each bottle
• Following washing with Lavender Hand and Body Lotion.

• Thieves Foaming Hand Soap + a lovely dish towel tied together with a sprig of rosemary
• Thieves Foaming Hand Soap + fresh flowers from your garden
• Thieves Foaming Hand Soap + a small diffuser + your favorite diffuser blend
• Thieves Foaming Hand Soap + a bamboo dish brush tied together with twine

Amber Dish Soap Bottle

• Lemon
• Peppermint
• Lemongrass
• Eucalyptus
• Cinnamon Bark
• Rosemary
• Tangerine
• Any combination you like!

• 1/4 cup Thieves Household Cleaner
• 2 tablespoons Thieves Dish Soap
• 1/4 cup white Vinegar
• 10 drops Lemon essential oil
• water

Amber Foaming 

• 2 tablespoons liquid Castile soap (eg Dr. Bronner's unscented)
• 10-15 drops essential oils (Thieves, Lemongrass, Lushious Lemon, Lavender, Peppermint are some favorites)
• Fill with distilled water leaving an inch at the top  to ad the lid. Gently invert to mix.

• Good Morning Blend: Lemon + Peppermint + Tangerine
• Mind At Ease Blend: Lavender + Grapefruit + Stress Away + Tangerine

• Fear and Abandonment, being left alone. By rubbing Lavender over the abdomen and using the mantra "I embrace all life's experiences" can help us be open to self-reliance and our contentment to all things. The opposite of abandonment is not being fully self-reliant, but being connected to everything working together for our good.
• Fear of Criticism. This one is huge, especially if you are in a line of work where you put yourself out there often (or if you have a high-maintenance toddler too!) Using Lavender as perfume while paring it with mantras and unconditional love for ourselves can be a great practice for developing self confidence.
• Fear of New Things, fear of moving forward. Sometimes there are big transitions in life and sometimes it seems scary to open ourselves up to change. Lavender has a beautiful way of calming the central nervous system to help us be more open to change and gaining positive momentum.

Daily Habits with Lavender

• Unwind in the evening with a calming, Lavender-infused neck or back massage. Feeling tense? Add a little Peppermint and Frankincense.
• Use Lavender as a part of a bedtime routine by rubbing it on the bottoms of your feet and diffusing it next to your bed.
• Make a relaxing Lavender eye pillow (find the details here)
• Rub Lavender and coconut oil on the skin after time in the sun or make an after-sun spray or balm.
  • 1/4 cup solid coconut oil (or liquid carrier for a spray)
  • 10 drops Peppermint essential oil
  • 20 drops Lavender essential oil
  • Optional: 15 drops Tea Tree essential oil for extra red/hot skin.
• Add 10 drops of Lavender to 1 cup Epsom salt to a bath to create a relaxing environment. We also love adding Peace & Calming or Frankincense to the mix.
• Use Lavender seasonally to support the airways when air quality is less than ideal.
  • Seasons Change Roller Blend: 15 drops each Lavender, Lemon, Peppermint, Copaiba then fill it with carrier oil. Roll over the chest, wrists, or just below the nostrils.
  • Add 5 drops each Lavender and Copiaba to 1 cup fine grain sea salt and dilute with 8-12 oz distilled water to make a DIY nasal rinse solution.
  • Use a drop of Lavender Vitality under the tongue or swiped on the inside of the cheek.

April's Oil of the Month

Energy, vitality, and fitness - things we all want, right? We want healthy, strong bodies, minds and spirits, which is why we are committed to using our favorite Young Living oils and products consistently and frequently! And peppermint essential oil is definitely one of our most used for this purpose.

Each month we focus on using an oil every day to help us in accomplishing our goals. Join us in choosing a method of application and simply getting this oil on and around you every day in April! My goal is to use up an entire bottle for my personal use.

Peppermint AT A GLANCE:

• Cools fatigued muscles after physical activity
• Produces a focused environment when diffused
• Provides a refreshing experience when mixed with your favorite shampoo or when applied to skin after a warm day in the sun

PEPPERMINT & EMOTIONS 

Peppermint also has a strong emotional benefits. The bright, crisp aroma is wonderful to inhale to soothe anxious feelings, uplift the spirits and calm racing thoughts and restlessness.  When we inhale oils, the area of our brain dealing with memory and mood is affected, so diffusing or applying peppermint oil can help us tremendously. It's wonderful paired with citrus oils for a vibrant, uplifting aroma!

PEPPERMINT & RAINDROP:

• Peppermint is one of the key essential oils used in the Raindrop massage technique and is also compliant of the oil blends used in this technique.
• Raindrop Roll-on:
  • 10 drops each: Oregano, Basil, Marjoram, Cypress, Thyme, Wintergreen, Peppermint, Aroma Siez
  • 1-2 pumps Ortho Ease (or V-6)
  • Fill the rest with a carrier oil, like Young LIving's V-6 Vegetable Oil Complex.
  • Apply over the lymph nodes, along the spine, on the bottom of the feed as needed. Use frequently and consistently!
• Raindrop Detox Bath
  • 6 cups Epsom Salts
  • 10 drops each: Oregano, Thyme, Basil, Wintergreen, Marjoram, Cypress, Peppermint, White Angelica, Aroma Siez
  • Combine Epsom salts and essential oils in a glass jar and mix well. When you are ready for a soak, add 1-2 cups of the mixture to a warm bath, and relax for at leas 30 minutes.

DAILY HABITS WITH PEPPERMINT:

• Add a drop or two to the back of the neck to support alertness and focus! Also diffuse during school, homework or work time.
• Add peppermint to an Epsom salt bath and/or use for a post-workout massage to ease and support tired muscles.
• Add a few drops to dryer balls for the fresh smelling laundry.
• Apply with coconut oil to the chest and back to support the airways. This is wonderful before lying down at bedtime. You can also add Lemon, Lavender, RC, and Raven.
• Add a drop directly to the belly button to lower body temperature when needed.
• Make a Tension Roll-On. Give tired, tense, or sore muscles some love! One great thing about Peppermint is that it actually helps support our muscles and tendons through the strain versus simply making the skin tingle like convention pain creams. In a 10 mL roller bottle add:
  • 10 drops Peppermint
  • 10 drops PanAway
  • 10 drops Copaiba
  • 5 drops Oregano or Marjoram
  • Top off with a carrier oil. Apply frequently and consistently
  • Avoid getting too close to the eyes. If you get it in your eyes, rub with coconut oil or other carrier oil.
• Make a Digest Roll-On. Throughout history, peppermint has been used to calm and soothe digestive needs, so adding it to your digestive blends makes sense! There's a reason all the items on the GI isle at the drugstore are peppermint-flavored. In a 10 mL roller bottle add:
  • 10 drops Peppermint
  • 10 drops Lemon
  • 10 drops DiGize
  • Top off with carrier oil. Apply over the abdomen as needed!

Diffusing is a wonderful health habit! We have our diffuser going almost 24/7 and love to choose blends that are supportive of individual needs or systems. Try some of these great combinations and enjoy the refreshing scent of peppermint this month!

• Seasons Change: 3 drops Peppermint + 3 drops Lemon + 3 drops Lavender + 3 drops Tea Tree
• Sugar Cookie: 4 rops Peppermint + 5 drops Stress Away
• Tension Melter: 3 droops Peppermint + 4 drops Lavender + 3 drops Frankincense
• Joyful: Morning: 4 drops Peppermint + 4 drops Joy

Thieves Household Cleaner

ONE cleaner to rule them all!! Yes you can actually clean your entire home with this one bottle. The formula is concentrated, so just a little goes a long way! Here are some of our favorite uses (and even more recipes here):

• General cleaning: Dilute 1 capful in a 16oz glass spray bottle of water. Add extra essential oils as desired for extra oomph and scent!
• Deep cleaning: Dilute 2-3 capfuls in a 16oz glass spray bottle of water.
• Toilet bowl cleaner:
  • 1/4 cup of baking soda,
  • 1/2 capful of Thieves Household Cleaner
  • 1-2 drops Lemon oil
  • Mix well and place inside of toilet or on a brush, then brush the inside of the bowl. Let sit for a few minutes, then flush!
• Deep Cleaning Scrub:
  • Equal parts Thieves Household cleaner + baking soda
  • Mix together, then apply with an abrasive brush or soft cloth depending on area to be cleaned. Rinse with water.
• Window + Glass cleaner:
  • 1 capful of Thieves Household Cleaner
  • 4-5 cups of distilled water
  • 2-3 drops of lemon essential oil OR 1 tsp of white vinegar for streak-free clean
  • Spray onto windows, sills and mirrors to remove dirt, sticky residue and grime.

Lushious Lemon Foaming Hand Soap

  • 5 drops Lemon
  • 6 drops Lemon Myrtle

  • 1 drops Cinnamon
  • 1 capful of Thieves Cleaner
  • Add all to a 16 oz spray bottle and top with distilled water. Use to clean any and everything!
