LIFE HACK - You can easily transform these blends into roller recipes and sprays!
To make a 10 mL roller from any recipe - triple the number of drops to make a total of 35-45 total drops, add a carrier of choice (we love V-6 Vegetable Oil Complex) and you're good to go.
To make a 2 oz spray from any recipe - double the number of drops to a total of about 25 drops, ad a splash of witch hazel and fill with filtered water. Spray on upholstered surfaces, bedding, rugs, anywhere you want to freshen!
To make an epsom salt bath mix - add desired amount of oils (we generally use about 10 drops) to 1 cup of epsom salts, then place under warm running water. Note: we generally avoid 'hot' oils (like Cypress, Oregano, and Lemongrass) in bath recipes. Use your own judgement, or stick to the more soothing and relaxing blends.
To make a 2 oz massage oil from any recipe - double the number of drops (or use your desired amount depending on the essential oils used) to a pump-top bottle, then add V-6 Vegetable Oil Complex or other carrier oil to top off the bottle. Invert to mix, then used as desired.

Lavender is reminiscent of a wonderful grandmother. Soft and huggable, gentle, smells like flowers, calming, and is the one you want around if you are sad, tired, or need comforting. She has experience and wisdom and seems to be able to fix every problem. She is soft-spoken and makes you feel more rested the moment she's around. And she seems to have that perfect knack with any baby.
Unfortunately, over the years, many "lavender" scented items became filled with synthetics and fillers which actually irritated our airways and lost all of their benefits. People even started giving lavender a bad reputation as being unsafe because of all the synthetic, chemical-laden products that had been used bearing its name. There is more lavender oil sold than grown in the world which doesn't really add up right.
But, Young Living. Young Living began growing and distilling its own lavender to ensure a high quality essential oil, making sure that we have the real thing in our homes. Many Young Living customers have planted and harvested YL Lavender themselves in Idaho and Utah! I mean, who wants a fake grandmother? Little Red Riding Hood can tell you that is NOT a good plan.
Today we use our Young Living Lavender in many similar ways. In our lotions, bath products, sleep roll-ons, diffusers, and on our precious babies. It is a gentle oil with a calming effect on everything from our respiratory systems, to our skin, to our emotions. So when you have a problem and you want something to be comforted, whether it's your irritated nose, your foot, or your baby, remember The Grandmother of all oils and give her a try.
Daily Habits with Lavender
Lavender is such a lovely, versatile oil that there are many ways we can use it on a daily basis - from skincare to relaxation to health to kids!
Add Lavender to your relaxation routine…
- Unwind in the evening with a calming, Lavender-infused neck or back massage. Feeling tense? Add a little Peppermint and Frankincense!
- Use Lavender as part of a bedtime routine by rubbing it on the bottoms of your feet and diffusing it next to your bed.
- Help little ones calm down for bedtime with gentle Lavender massage. Mix 1 tbsp carrier oil with 5 drops Lavender and gently massage legs, arms and back.
- Add 10 drops of Lavender to 1 cup of magnesium flakes or epsom salt to a bath to create a relaxing environment. We also love adding Peace & Calming or Frankincense to the mix!
Add Lavender to your wellness routine…
Reach for Lavender to release tension. Head On Roller:
- 20 drops Peppermint, Copaiba, & Lavender, 10 drops Frankincense.
- Fill with V-6 carrier or carrier oil of choice and roll over temples, across the forehead, on the back of the neck and shoulders.
Use Lavender to support the airways when air quality is less than ideal:
- Seasons Change Roller Blend - 15 drops each Lavender, Lemon, Peppermint, Tea Tree, & Copaiba, then fill with carrier. Roll over the chest, wrists, just below the nostrils. This also makes a great combination for an epsom salt bath or a diffuser blend!
- Add 5 drops each Lavender & Copaiba to 1 cup fine grain sea salt or organic salt and mineral solution and mix well. To use, dilute 1 tsp of mixture with 8-12 oz distilled water to make a DIY nasal rinse solution for use in a netipot.
- Use a drop of Lavender Vitality under the tongue or swiped on the inside of the cheek.
Use Lavender to support skin needs…
Make an “Owie” spray or cream (great for kiddos!):
- 2 tbsp solid coconut oil (for a cream) or fractionated coconut oil (for a spray)
- 15 drops each Lavender, Frankincense, & Copaiba
- Optional: 10 drops Tea Tree for purifying needs
- Small glass jar or 2 oz glass spray bottle
- Apply to needed area frequently to support natural healing
- Apply Lavender diluted with coconut oil to skin after touching something hot.
- Add Lavender to your moisturizer for oily skin needs or apply it with a cotton ball to blemishes or the t-zone as needed.
- Make a dry scalp mask with ¼ cup organic avocado oil, 10 drops each Lavender & Tea Tree essential oil. Apply to dry spots of scalp and let sit for 15 minutes before rinsing and washing as usual. Use once a week.
Rub lavender and coconut oil on the skin after time in the sun or make an after-sun spray or balm!
- ¼ cup solid coconut oil (or liquid carrier for a spray)
- 10 drops Peppermint essential oil
- 20 drops Lavender essential oil
- Optional: 15 drops Tea Tree essential oil for extra red/hot skin

He is ever on the alert, skilled, protective, strong. He goes quickly through the pathways of your cells seeking out the raging flames and pouring on the calming water of his many anti-inflammatory benefits.
Wherever there is "fire" or inflammation in your body, it is a signal of something going on. An arsonist at work (disease, stress) or a drought in your system that needs to be addressed (lack of nutrients). This can also be the result of foods that you are eating such as refined sugar, modern grains, processed dairy, or other foods that don't work well with your body. Over time this compounds until you have fire raging everywhere and you are experiencing pain, digestive issues, skin eruptions, and brain dysfunctions. Eventually this leads to even more serious problems.
People often think that because they don't have digestive problems, they don't have gut inflammation issues. Not at all true. Gut inflammation shows itself as brain fog, pain in joints, emotional instability, and skin eruptions. It's ALL connected.
Eventually, if root issues aren't addressed, your body is spending all of its energy trying to function despite all the fire raging throughout your system.
Everything is burning and you are so busy dealing with the side effects of the fires, you can't ever get to the actual healing to keep the fires from happening.
You're taking medications to treat the pain, the meds increase the inflammation as your gut is damaged, thereby increasing the pain, leading to more medication for the pain…see the cycle?
We have to find a different way.
We have to find alternatives that can help us put out the fires, keep them out, and not do further damage to our systems. Truly quenching them is going to result in lasting relief and recovery. This will mean finding ways to reduce stress, to eat foods that nourish instead of harming us, and repairing the damage that has already been done to our poor guts.

BACKGROUND
Copaiba essential oil is steam distilled from the gum resin of the Brazilian Copaifera reticulata tree. Native to the Amazon River Basin, these trees can reach 25−40 feet and can live for up to 400 years. Copaiba resin has been used for various purposes throughout the Amazon region since at least the 16th century. It contains a high percentage of the naturally occurring constituent beta-caryophyllene, making it a great choice to add to skin care products or to use for massage. Copaiba Vitality essential oil provides general wellness support when taken internally. Copaiba and Copaiba Vitality are the same essential oil, simply labeled differently.

Add Copaiba to your beauty and self care routine
Use Copaiba in a DIY Toner Roller
- 10 mL roller bottle
- 15 drops each Frankincense, Tea Tree, Manuka, Copaiba and Lavender
- Fill with organic witch hazel
Make a Daily Glow Serum:
- 2 oz glass dropper bottle
- 20 drops each of Frankincense and Copaiba
- Top with your carrier of choice.
- Or simply add one drop each of Frankincense + Copaiba to your palm when you put your carrier oil/moisturizer on your face in the morning or at night
Use Copaiba to soothe sore muscles and tension.
Use for teething little ones. Add a drop to a wooden teether or cloth teether & let them go to town chewing away! Can also be done on a cold or frozen washcloth. Copaiba is gentle enough to use without a carrier oil.
Apply diluted Copaiba and Lavender on the outside of the jawline.
Make this DIY Muscle Balm:
- 15 drops Panaway
- 15 drops Peppermint
- 15 drops Frankincense
- 15 drops Valor or Copaiba
Dilute with V-6 Vegetable Oil Complex and massage it into muscles after exercise.
Make a ‘Head On' Roller
- 10 mL roller bottle
- 15 drops each Copaiba, Peppermint, Cypress, Lavender, & Frankincense
- Carrier of choice
Roll onto tense or sore areas as needed.
Add 15 drops to 1 cup of magnesium flakes for a soothing soak.

Add a drop of Copaiba Vitality to a glass of water or green juice to promote overall wellness.

Essential Oils & Exotic Animals
Essential oils can be a huge benefit to our animals – including ferrets, frogs, snakes, lizards and more! In fact, in a healthy environment, animals come into contact with essential oils naturally as they graze, consume herbs, and scratch against trees. We can harness all that plant power to give them amazing tools for their health. Whether you need acute support for a specific need, daily maintenance for overall health, or want to prevent the bumps in the road, there are so many ways oils can help!
Oils & Exotic Animals at a Glance
- Start by placing a drop of oil on your hands and allowing your pet to sniff.
- Remember animals have heightened smell, so a little goes a long way.
- Dilute for small animals as much as you would for cats (Oils & Cats Spotlight), if not more.
- Exotic animals tend to like citrus oils, so introducing one of them first will likely allow the animal to prefer other oils.
- When adding oil to your pet's water, make sure to have a fresh water option available as well.
- For furry animals like ferrets, you can use similar applications as for small cats (Oils & Cats Spotlight).
- For other exotic animals, a water-based diffusion or spray method is more ideal. Water animals like lizards, frogs, or turtles absorb oils in the same way as fish – from plant matter within their water. One simple way to do this is to add a drop of citrus oil (Orange, Lemon, Citrus Fresh) to their drinking water (in a large container).
- For exotics in general (furry or not), 1 drop of oil for every quart of water OR for smaller animals or more dilution, you can dip a toothpick into the oil and swirl it in a quart of water.
- For amphibians, 1 toothpick of an oil (Purification is a good one), for every liter of water and allow them to soak.
- Misting is a great option for the hairless exotics! For small animals like amphibians, 1 toothpick or 1 drop of oil per 1 liter of water. For larger reptiles, up to 4 drops of oil for every 4 ounces of water.
When it comes to reptiles, remember that like most other animals, they are much more sensitive to scents and tastes than humans. Even handling a reptile (or other fur-less exotic animal) with oil residue on your hands may be overwhelming to some. One simple way to test your animal's response to an oil is to place 1 drop somewhere in the animal's environment and note their reaction.
Reptiles and other hairless animals also have more sensitive skin, so remember to introduce oils slowly and keep them diluted until the animal is comfortable with the oil(s).
Skin Soothing Soak
- Infuse 1 pint of magnesium flakes or epsom salt with 15 drops Lavender

- Apply one drop of your chosen oil to your hands and rub them together. Hold your pet or allow them to sit close to you and get used to them. Do not try to force them to smell your hands or hold them. Let the animal approach you, and if they show interest in the area that has the oils let them sniff/approach at their own pace.
- Try the ‘Petting Method'. Simply apply an oil to your hands and gently “pet” your animal. The animal's hair will actually carry oils down the hair follicle into the skin. Only apply oils to a small part of the animal's coat or body initially. The oils will get where they need to go!
- Always start with 1 drop of essential oil, and apply more often versus using more drops.
- In general, avoid the eye area, unless this area is one of need. According to Dr. Melissa Shelton, DVM, in this case you can use a very diluted ‘eye spritzer' (ex: up to 4 drops of Lavender in 120 mL water) to mist around the eyes.

In fact, in a healthy environment, horses and other large animals come into contact with essential oils naturally as they graze, consume herbs, and scratch against trees. We can harness all that plant power to give them amazing tools for their health. Whether you need acute support for a specific need, daily maintenance for overall health, or want to prevent the bumps in the road, there are so many ways oils can help!
Oils & Large Animals at a Glance
- Start by placing a drop of oil on your hands and allowing your pet to sniff.
- Remember animals have heightened smell, so a little goes a long way.
- In general, large animals (horses, mules, donkeys, mini horses, etc.) will use the same dose or dilution as humans (it's directly on the oil bottle!), though there are always species-specific considerations. Diluting is never a bad choice! Dilute more and apply more frequently.
- Animals with fair or red coats or have a finer bone structure may require more dilution. Also, after applying an oil, stay with the animal for 15-20 minutes to observe any discomfort. If they try to lick it off, are upset or anything, use more dilution.

For dogs, ¼ to ½ capsule for every 20 lbs per day is good for general maintenance, and for very large dogs, you can use up to 1 capsule.

Oils & Cats at a Glance
- Start by placing a drop of oil on your hands and allowing your pet to sniff.
- Diffuse on intermittent to let your cat get used to it
- Remember cats have heightened smell, so a little goes a long way. This is especially important with cats because they metabolize differently (they lack a particular liver enzyme).
- Diluting is never a bad choice!
Animal Scents Line
Using oils on and around your cats is absolutely ok when done correctly. In fact, Young Living has an entire animal care line that is perfect for our four legged, furry pals!
- Animal Scents ParaGize Oil Blend
A settling, cleansing blend of Ginger, Anise, and Peppermint essential oils great for any digestive needs. This relaxing, soothing blend can be applied to your pet's abdomen or diffused to support your pet with its comforting properties. - Animal Scents T-Away Oil Blend
So many of our pets experience emotional trauma that can often leave them with debilitating needs. Animal Scents T-Away is our go-to for everything from storm anxiety to more complex emotional issues with our pets. Apply according to animal size, but in general apply 1 drop behind each ear to calm your pet.

This is the first step in Young Living's three-part system to support pet recovery from minor scrapes and scratches. This prediluted blend refreshes and cleanses your pet's skin and prepares it for healing by moisturizing as well. PuriClean combines the skin-improvement properties of Patchouli, Mountain Savory, and other essential oils so that you can help your pet feel its best. - Animal Scents Infect-Away Oil Blend
This is step two of Young Living's three-part system to support your pet's skin healing. This prediluted blend includes Ocotea, Patchouli, Myrrh and other cleansing oils that help guard against harmful contaminants while supporting your pet's irritated coat or skin. Carefully apply according to the size and species of the animal. Additional dilution is recommended for smaller species. You can also put 8−10 drops in a 1-ounce spray bottle with distilled water for a quick skin-cleansing spritz. Quick Tips for Applying Oils
- Apply one drop of your chosen oil to your hands and rub them together. Hold your pet or allow them to sit close to you and get used to them. Do not try to force them to smell your hands or hold them. Let the animal approach you, and if they show interest in the area that has the oils let them sniff/approach at their own pace.
- Diffuse your oils on the intermittent setting. Always ensure the animals aren't initially locked in a room and can come and go freely. Your pets should be able to leave the room at any time if they choose. Don't start the diffuser right over where they sleep initially, but only after they are comfortable with diffusing. If the animals pace or look at the diffuser often, they could be uncomfortable with the scent so just allow them to leave the area or add more water to the diffuser to dilute the scent further.
- Try the ‘Petting Method'. Simply apply an oil to your hands and gently “pet” your animal. The animal's hair will actually carry oils down the hair follicle into the skin. Only apply oils to a small part of the animal's coat or body initially. The oils will get where they need to go!
- Always start with 1 drop of essential oil, and apply more often versus using more drops. This is especially important with cats because they metabolize differently (they lack a particular liver enzyme).
- In general, avoid the eye area, unless this area is one of need. According to Dr. Melissa Shelton, DVM, in this case you can use a very diluted ‘eye spritzer' (ex: up to 4 drops of Lavender in 120 mL water) to mist around the eyes.
Tips for Diluting Oils for Your Cat
- When using an oil for the first time or for pets under 20 lbs it's best to dilute with a 1:4 ratio or more. That's one drop of essential oil to 4 drops of carrier oil (like V-6 or coconut oil). Apply oil(s) mid-spine to the tail and down the rear legs. Once animals are familiar with oils, they can be applied to the neck, head, outer ears, front legs, and so forth.
- In general, for animals over 20 lbs use a 1:1 dilution ratio.
- Always dilute “hot” oils like Oregano, Peppermint, Thieves, etc. You can always add more oil, so dilute more and apply more frequently versus diluting less.
Cats & Supplements
Our animals need the nutritional support of good quality supplements, just like we do! And the same way that we start supplementing to maintain good health before a need arises, we want to do this for our animal friends.
Enter NingXia Red, Mineral Essence, and SulfurZyme. These three really wonderful supplements form a baseline for your furry friends to help keep them healthy and active. Another really great thing to give your pest is digestive enzymes!
- For cats - approximately 1 capsule of Allerzyme (Spotlight) daily; approximately ¼ to ½ of each capsule of EssentialZymes-4 (Spotlight) daily
- Adding a round of Life 9 after antibiotics, oral use of antimicrobial oils, severe diarrhea, or an infection is a wonderful way to support a healthy microbiome for your pets! For cats, ¼ to ½ capsule can be mixed with soft food, 2-3 times a day or as needed.
- MultiGreens (Spotlight) is a wonderful supplement to include for immune support, viral infections, and neurologic support (especially in the presence of conditions such as feline leukemia). For cats, ½ of a capsule daily (up to 1-2 whole capsules).
- NingXia Red (Spotlight #1, Spotlight #2) is amazing for SO many things. For cats, about ½ tsp daily, up to 1 tsp during illness, divided in 3-4 doses. Dilute in fresh water, add to food, give in a syringe.

Stress Away Essential Oil BlendStress Away is like a beach vacation in a bottle - warm and sweet and calming - and is the perfect companion for the summer months. Lime, Vanilla, Copaiba, and Lavender - OH MY!
Use Stress Away in DIY Cleaning products for a warm, inviting scent. Add 20 drops to Thieves Household Cleaner (optional to add 20 drops of Lemon as well).
Make a DIY Mattress & Linen Spray to use every time you make the bed or change the sheets. To a 8 oz glass spray bottle, add:
- 1 tsp Thieves Household Cleaner
- 20 drops each Stress Away & Lavender
- 10 drops each Tangerine & Grapefruit
- Fill with distilled water and invert to gently mix
- 25 drops Stress Away
- 10 drops Grapefruit
- splash of witch hazel
- Fill with filtered with water
Take a relaxing Epsom Salt bath with Stress Away. Add 20 drops to 1 cup Epsom Salt and soak in warm water.
Try this Summer Vacation Sugar Scrub.
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup coconut oil
- 2 tbsp Vitamin E oil
- 15 drops Stress Away
Combine all the ingredients in a metal or glass container, use in the shower to exfoliate & moisturize.
Make this DIY Whipped Body Butter recipe (great after using the sugar scrub listed above):
- 1/2 cup unrefined extra virgin coconut oil
- 1/2 cup shea butter
- 1/8 cup cocoa butter
- 1 tbsp Vitamin E oil
- 20 drops Stress Away
- 15 drops Tangerine & Grapefruit
Step 1 - Melt together coconut oil, shea butter and coconut butter, then add in Vitamin E oil and whisk.
Step 2 - Refrigerate until almost half solidified, then use a mixer to whip for 1 to 2 minutes until a fluffy consistency is achieved.
Step 3 - Add in essential oils then place in a glass jar.
Up your summer vibes with this DIY Mermaid Locks Spray. To a 4 oz spray bottle, add:
- 3 tbsp witch hazel
- 1 tsp hemp seed oil
- 5 drops each Stress Away & Grapefruit
- filtered or distilled water
Shake before use, and spritz then comb through to deeply nourish wet hair.
Make a Sweet Dreams sleep roller:
- 20 drops each Stress Away & Lavender
- 10 drops each Frankincense & Valor
- fill with a carrier oil of choice
Apply over the big toe, bottom of the feet, neck and behind ears before bed or more frequently as desired.
Make this Floral Bath Soak for a little self care and to give tense or tired muscles some TLC:
- 1/4 cup pink Himalayan salt
- 1/4 cup magnesium flakes
- 2 tbsp sweet almond oil
- 15 drops Stress Away
- 10 drops Ylang Ylang
- Dried lavender, rose buds or eucalyptus leaves (optional)
Make this Ultimate Skin Healing Balm.
- To about 1/4 jar of Rose Ointment, add:
- 10 drops Stress Away
- 8 drops Helichrysum
- 8 drops Vanilla
- 6 drops Frankincense
Apply to needed area(s) 2-5 times a day. Frequency and consistency are crucial for these big needs.
Make a simple DIY Roll-on Cuticle Oil. This also makes a great gift and pairs well with the Gardener's Hand Salve. To an empty 15 mL essential oil bottle with an AromaGlide Roller Fitment, add:
- 1 1/2 tsp V-6 Vegetable Oil Complex
- 10 drops Stress Away essential oil blend
Roll onto your cuticles anytime, anywhere
Diffuse this warm, happy oil all month long.
- Simmer Down - 5 drops Stress Away, 3 drops each Valor & Tangerine
- Warm Hug - 4 drops each Grapefuit, Stress Away, & Lavender
- Bakery Treats - 4 drops Stress Away, 3 drops each Cinnamon & Vanilla, 2 drops Nutmeg
- Refreshed - 4 drops Stress Away, 6 drops Thieves

Lemongrass Essential OilLemongrass is a bright, crisp and fresh, with makes it perfect for springtime and summer. Use this cleansing oil in your skincare routine, your cleaning DIYs and diffuse it all season long.
Place a few drops of Lemongrass on cotton balls and stash them anywhere that can use additional freshness: air vents, drawers, shoes, gym bags, rain boots, garbage cans, etc. Or drop Lemongrass directly into areas that need some freshening - rain boots, forgotten laundry, diaper pails, etc.
Use Lemongrass to remove stickers or sticky residue on surfaces. Simply drop onto the surface, allow to sit, then wipe clean.
Make DIY Scented Sachets to bring a crisp, happy aroma to any area of your home.
- 1/2 cup uncooked rice
- 1/4 cup Epsom Salt
- 1 cup dried lavender buds or rose petals (optional)
- muslin cotton drawstring pouches, approx 5" x 4"
- 40-50 drops Lemongrass
Step 1 - In a medium bowl, mix rice, Epsom Salt, flower buds and essential oil to thoroughly scent the mixture.
Step 2 - Spoon mixture into your muslin pouch.
Step 3 - Place anywhere you want to add a fresh scent.
Refresh your pouch every 2-3 weeks by opening it up and adding more drops of essential oil.
- 1 cup Epsom Salt
- 1/2 cup Dead Sea Salt
- 20 drops Lemongrass
- 10 drops Tangerine (optional)
Mix well. When ready to use, sprinkle over carpets and let sit for 10 minutes before vacuuming.
Make an Herbal Deodorizing Spray for pet beds, upholstered surfaces, car upholstery, etc. To a 4 oz glass spray bottle, add:
- 1/4 cup white vinegar
- 25 drops Lemongrass essential oil
- 15 drops Lavender essential oil
- 10 drops Lemon essentia oil
- Pinch of sea salt or a splash of witch hazel
- Fill with filtered water
Spray lightly onto surfaces to remove unwanted odors.
- 1 cup Epsom Salt
- 1/2 cup Dead Sea Salt
- 1/2 cup baking soda
- 30 drops Lemongrass (or a mix of desired oils)
To use, add 2-3 tbsp directly to the laundry.
- 25 drops Lemongrass
- splash of witch hazel
- Fill with filtered with water
Upgrade your Kitchen & Bath Scrub with a lemon-y twist! To a glass jar, add:
- 1/2 cup baking soda
- 10 drops Lemongrass essential oil
- 1-2 tbsp Thieves Household Cleaner
Whip up this simple DIY Linen Spray to bring a bit of spring to linens and upholstered surfaces. To a 2 oz glass spray bottle, add:
- splash of witch hazel
- 15 drops of Tangerine
- 10 drops Lavender
- 10 drops Lemongrass
- filtered water
Use Lemongrass to support healthy airways. Mix with coconut oil for a chest rub. Or whip up a DIY Breathe Massage Oil. To a 4 oz pump bottle, add:
- 20 drops Lemongrass essential oil
- 10 drops Lemon essential oil
- Fill with carrier of choice
Apply it topically to calm everyday skin irritations or use to spot-treat blemishes. Try this T-Zone Roller. In a 10 mL roller bottle, add:
- 10-15 drops each Lemon, Lavender, & Lemongrass
- Jojoba oil or carrier of choice

All you need to start diffusing essential oils is a diffuser, a little bit of water, and some Young Living essential oils!
Each diffuser will have a fill line on the inside, so just add water to the fill line, add your oils of choice, replace the lid and turn on the diffuser. Instant transformation! You can place a diffuser virtually anywhere - your home, office, even your car!
- Feeling a little stressed with early morning traffic? Try Peppermint + Stress Away in an USB diffuser that sits right in your vehicle cup holder.
- Need some help calming your thoughts at bedtime? Lavender, Cedarwood & Vetiver are your friends. (Put your diffuser right by your bed!).

There are countless studies on PubMed about the ways that essential oils can positively impact health areas such as immunity, mood and emotions, sleep, racing thoughts, focus and much more.

Aromatherapy (breathing in essential oils) sends messages to our brain through our cranial nerves. The olfactory (sense of smell!) cranial nerve ends in the brain right next to the organs of the limbic system - the system that controls mood, emotions and memory. So inhaling oils triggers this area, helping us to rest, reset, and recharge. And diffusing is a great way to get the benefit of these oils for more than one individual! You can play with combinations to find the ones you love and that are the most beneficial to you!
Diffusing FAQs
How long can I diffuse at a time?
We have diffusers going in our home pretty much 24/7! In large, open areas we don't keep track of how long we diffuse. At bedtime we use the intermittent setting on our diffusers and let them run all night long! And if we are diffusing in a room where doors are closed (ie kids bedrooms), we simply add less oils and use the intermittent setting. Don't overthink it!
How many drops do I use?
That will depend on your diffuser! Larger ones that cover more area will require more drops. Here are a few of our favorite diffusers available from Young Living:
- Duet Diffuser - no water needed, simply add the oil bottles of choice!
- Aria Ultrasonic Diffuser- 15-25 drops essential oil, covers about 430 sq. feet
- Desert Mist Diffuser - 8-12 drops essential oil, covers about 320 sq. feet
- Dewdrop Diffuser and Rhinestone Diffuser - 5–8 drops of essential oil, covers approximately 320 sq. ft.)

Do I need to clean my diffuser?
- We do recommend cleaning your diffuser for best results! For the Aria, YL recommends you wipe down after every use with a clean, dry cloth and, as needed, wash the glass bowl either by hand or in the dishwasher. For other diffusers, YL recommends:
- Clean the ultrasonic plate and lid after each use.
- If essential oil begins to build up on the ultrasonic plate, gently wipe it off using a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol.
- If essential oil begins to build up on the lid, gently wipe it off using mild soap and water only.
Diffuser Settings
Did you know you can turn the lights on and off and change the colors on the diffusers? Or that the kids' diffusers can also double as a sound machine? Depending on the diffuser simply press the button on the left to cycle through the light options.
Most diffusers also have 1 or 2 intermittent modes, which can be changed by pressing the button on the right to cycle through the options! This is one of our favorite ways to have oils diffusing while we sleep.

Shutran at a Glance
- A lovely blend of Idaho Blue Spruce, Ocotea, Ylang Ylang, Hinoki, Cedarwood, Lemon, and Northern Lights Black SpruceHas a grounding, lightly sweet evergreen aroma that makes a wonderful cologne.
- Designed for men to support healthy hormone levels.
- Shutran is infused into a line of personal care products:
Shutran's inspiring aroma appeals to both men and women, making it a wonderful choice for a cologne. BUT Shutran does not contain any synthetic ingredients like conventional colognes. Instead, it is formulated with pure, hormone-supporting essential oils.
Besides smelling wonderful, Shutran is a powerful emotional tool for releasing blocks and promoting feelings of balance. Because it contains Idaho Blue Spruce and other oils, it is well known for its ability to support healthy hormone levels, especially testosterone!
Key Constituents
*Constituents are naturally occurring compounds in plants (and therefore essential oils) that give them specific health-supporting properties
- Alpha-pinene - a powerful antioxidant, some studies have shown alpha-pinene to support the body through inflammation and to help calm the mind

Shutran + Testosterone
Shutran was designed specifically for men as a way to naturally support healthy hormone levels. Because it contains Idaho Blue Spruce, Ylang Ylang, and Nothern Lights Black Spruce, it is an excellent oil for men to help balance and support testosterone levels.
Conifer oils are effective for reaching the pineal gland of the brain, especially Idaho Blue Spruce. This small but extremely important control switch plays a big role in hormone secretion, and regulation of mood, sleep patterns, and sexual development. Because of this and because of its unique constituent profile, Blue Spruce (and Black Spruce too!) is supportive of maintaining healthy testosterone, growth hormone and other hormone levels. This incredible oil doesn't simply ‘replace' testosterone like conventional options. It supports the body's own production of hormones which is a much better way to approach the need.
Key Ingredients
- Idaho Blue Spruce - You say testosterone, we say Idaho Blue Spruce! This slightly sweet conifer oil is wonderful for providing the body with tools to create healthy testosterone levels.
- Ylang Ylang - Ylang ylang is a wonderful oil for promoting connection and openness in relationships, making Shutran wonderful for promoting intimacy and also for making it smell divine.
- Hinoki - Hinoki essential oil has been used historically for refreshing the soul and is used to create a calm ambiance that can help increase intuitive awareness – something essential for true connection and intimacy!
- Davana - A lesser known, but truly wonderful oil, Davana has an exotic floral aroma that creates an environment of joy and romance. It was traditionally used by Ayurvedic healers to balance the body and spirit. It also smells divine!
- Northern Lights Black Spruce - Northern Lights Black Spruce has a grounding, earthy aroma that feels like walking through a beautiful, quiet forest. This oil enhances and uplifts the spirit and promotes feelings of completeness.
Daily Habits with Shutran
Apply to the wrists, neck, and chest as a daily cologne. Add a roller fitment to the top of the bottle for easy application!
Combine with epsom salts and add to warm bath water for a relaxing bath, or to ease muscles after exercise.
Add a few drops to a lightweight carrier oil, such as jojoba or grapeseed, to create a natural beard oil. To a 2 oz glass dropper bottle add:
- 15 drops Shutran
- 10 drops Bergamot
- Optional: 10 drops Northern Lights Black Spruce
- Fill with Jojoba or Grapeseed oil
Apply to beard and skin and gently massage to keep the hair and skin happy and healthy.
Make a customized cologne roller. To a 10 mL roller bottle add:
- 25 drops Shutran
- 10 drops Idaho Blue Spruce
- 10 drops Bergamot
- 3 drops Ylang Ylang
- Fill with carrier of choice
Make a DIY Massage Oil:
- To a 2 oz pump bottle add:
- 10 drops each Shutran, Idaho Blue Spruce, & Ylang ylang
- 5 drops each Orange & Sensation
- Fill with jojoba oil
Use as massage oil as desired! This is a great combination of oils for fostering emotional connection and intimacy with a spouse.
Make a DIY Pomade:
- In a double boiler melt: 3 Tbsp shea butter (use refined for less scent) + 2 Tbsp beeswax pellets
- In a separate bowl combine 2 Tbsp jojoba oil & 1 Tbsp cornstarch
- Mix well then add in the melted shea butter/beeswax mixture and mix with a hand mixer.
- Add 3-5 drops each Shutran, Idaho Blue Spruce, Rosemary, Cedarwood
Mix well. Pomade will thicken as you mix. Transfer to a jar with an airtight lid.
Store in a cool, dry place and use as desired.
Deeply inhale Shutran and diffuse while you journal, meditate, or visualize different outcomes to past traumatic or difficult experiences.
Apply to the inner thighs before or during intimacy.
Apply topically to desired area, to the bottoms of the feet, or use as needed to support a healthy endocrine system, especially to maintain balanced testosterone.
Apply between large and second toes which is a reflex point for releasing trauma stored in the body. Inhale the oil deeply when performing this exercise.
