Sadly, convention chest rubs are filled with synthetic additives and diluents, and even the 'natural' options are less than ideal. Many options use petroleum as a base. Petroleum (petrolatum) is often not fully refined in the US, which means it can be contaminated with toxic chemicals called polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.

Many 'natural' chest rubs contain impure essential oils or other lower-grade components that don't meet the same standards as the ingredients found in Young Living's products. The active ingredient in the most popular over the counter chest rubs is actually a synthetic version of Ravinstsara essential oil. And we are always going to choose the original over a synthetic copy, especially when it comes to our health and our children's health.

To Use

When we begin to fall below the wellness line, our emotional and mental health is also affected. All of our body systems are interconnected, so it makes sense that we often feel run down, fatigued, exhausted even on an emotional level when our defenses go down.

Cinnamon Bark essential oil has a warm, spicy aroma that is inviting, especially during the Autumn Season.


Cinnamon Bark cleanses the air, creates a warming sensation on the skin when applied topically, and contains antioxidants that help support the immune system and general wellness. Overall, it is a staple essential oil for every household.

Each month we focus on using an oil everyday to help us in accomplishing our goals. Join us in choosing a method of application and simply getting this oil on and around you every day in October. My goal is to use up an entire bottle for my personal use.

Cinnamon Bark AT A Glance

  • Has a warm, spicy, inviting aroma

Native to Sri Lanka, Ceylon cinnamon, or true cinnamon, is a tall leafy bush that produces fragrant bark and leaves. A member of the laurel family, it is well know the world over as an aromatic culinary spice. Cinnamon Bark essential oil is steam distilled from the inner bark of the tree and has a warm, spicy aroma that evokes memories of the holidays when diffused.

Cinnamon Bark Vitality contains antioxidants and may provide immune and general wellness support when taken as a dietary supplement.

Note: Cinnamon Bark and Cinnamon Bark Vitality are the same essential oil, simply labeled differently to comply with FDA standards.

Key Constituents - Cinnamaldehyde


Cinnamon is loaded with powerful antioxidants, such as polyphenols. Antioxidants are a huge bolster to health since so much of our modern life can create oxidative stress in the body. In a study that compared the antioxidant activity of 26 spices, cinnamon wound up as the clear winner, even outranking "superfoods" like garlic and oregano!

Antioxidants also help support the body's response to inflammation, which plays a role in almost all chronic diseases. Cinnamon can also support healthy cholesterol, blood sugar, and blood pressure levels - making it a wonderful tool for our health.

Dilute Cinnamon Bark with V-6 Vegetable Oil Complex and massage it on your feet for a warming massage that supports healthy circulation and tired muscles.


Add Cinnamon Bark to a daily Wellness Roller and use over the spine and lymph nodes daily. To a 10 mL roller, add:

Homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte:
  • 1 cup organic coconut or almond milk
  • 1.5 tbsp organic pureed pumpkin
  • 1 tbsp organic vanilla extract
  • 2-3 tbsp raw organic honey (optional)
  • 1 drop Cinnamon Bark Vitality essential oil
  • a pinch of nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup strong coffee or expresso (already brewed)
  • a pinch of cocoa powder
  • coconut whipped cream (optional)
    Combine milk, pureed pumpkin, and raw organic honey in a saucepan over medium heat until the coconut milk is bubbling and steaming. Remove from the heat and stir in vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Pour into the bottom half of a coffee cup, then pour in the coffee or espresso on top. Garnish with a dollop of coconut whip cream and a sprinkle of cacao powder.

Dilute and massage Clove onto tired muscles and feet for a lovely warming sensation that also gives your body some TLC.
Nutmeg Essential Oil Blend

This oil is high in the constituent sabinene, alpha-pinene and beta-pinene, making it a wonderful option to support the digestive system, to protect your liver, to help maintain healthy circulation and provide the adrenals with the support they need on a daily basis.

Make a cozy linen spray: To an 8 oz spray bottle add:
  • 5 drops each of Nutmeg and Clove
  • 10 drops Bergamot or Orange
  • 1 cup of filtered water
  • and a splash of witch hazel
    Spray anywhere and everywhere.
Cozy up your Thieves Cleaner with a Pumpkin Spice Scent. To make a Pumpkin Spice Thieves Cleaner:
  • 1-2 capfuls Thieves Household Cleaner
  • 10 drops each of Orange and Cinnamon Bark 
  • 5 drops each of Ginger, Clove, Nutmeg
  • Fill the rest of a 16 oz glass spray bottle with water
Did someone say stress? Nutmeg is your stress response oil. Make this Stress Recovery (aka Adrenal Love) Serum:
To a 4 oz glass dropper bottle, add
25 drops Nutmeg
20 drops each of Clove, Frankincense, and Rosemary
Fill the rest up with Castor oil
Apply over the lower back every morning and before bed every day.

Patchouli Essential Oil

Use Patchouli as a natural alternative to conventional deodorant. Either apply directly, dilute with jojoba/V-6 oil in a roller ball and apply after using apple cider vinegar to cleanse the area.

Add Patchouli to your skincare routine - its great for winter skin with this 'Happy Hippie' Body Butter:
  • 1/2 cup solid coconut oil (use refined for less coconut scent)
  • 1/2 cup shea butter (use refined for less scent)
  • 20 drops each of Patchouli, Tangerine, and Sacred Mountain
  • Whip coconut oil and shea butter with a handheld or stand mixer until light and fluffy, slowly mix in essential oils until combined. Store in a glass jar with an airtight lid.
Diffuse this grounding, woodsy oil for the welcoming aroma of a crisp autumn walk. Patchouli pairs well with citrus, other tree oils, and Frankincense and is also great emotional tool for releasing worry.

  • Sleep Tight: 3 drops Lavender, 3 drops Frankincense, 3 drops Patchouli, 2 drops Valor
  • Autumn Picnic: 3 drops Patchouli, 3 drops Tangerine, 1 drop Clove, 2 drops Idaho Blue Spruce, 2 drops Bergamot
  • Worry Less: 3 drops Patchouli, 3 drops Bergamot, 3 drops Valor
Add patchouli to your favorite blends for a woodsy aroma that calms and grounds:
  • Tension Melter: Patchouli + Peppermint
  • Glow Up: Patchouli + Frankincense + Blue Tansy (a skincare favorite)

Why are Amino Acids Important?

Amino acids are classified as non-essential amino acids (you produce them on your own), conditionally essential amino acids (can usually be produced by your body), and essential amino acids (EAAs cannot be made by the body so you must get them through diet or supplementation).

Of the EAAs, three are superstars - the branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) - leucine, isoleucine, and valine. BACCs make up about 35% of your muscle tissue.

Your ability to maintain, or even build lean body mass, or muscle, is based on the levels of protein synthesis and protein breakdown throughout the day. As we age, protein breakdown tends to accelerate. To slow the protein breakdown you can eat more high quality protein and supplement with EAAs.

Tangerine essential oil has a sweet citrus scent that can create a happy, contented mindset when diffused. This versatile oil is wonderful for emotions, helps purify the air of odors, promotes healthy hair and skin, and smells wonderful in so many diffuser blends. Taken internally, it offers a fresh, sweet, citrus flavor and can provide digestive, lymphatic, and immune support. This is an oil we definitely want in our homes and in our bodies.


Each month we focus on using an oil everyday to help us in accomplishing our goals. Join us in choosing a method of application and simply getting this oil on and around you every day in September. My goal is to use up an entire bottle for my personal use.

Tangerine AT A Glance

  • Contains the constituents limonene, gamma-terpinene, and myrcene
  • Found in Dream Catcher, Joy, and Inner Child essential oil blends, as well as Relaxation Massage Oil
  • Cold pressed from the rind of the fruit, making the oil alkaline (not acidic)

Tangerine + Oxidative Stress

Our bodies' cells produce free radicals during normal metabolic processes. However, cells also produce antioxidants that neutralize these free radicals. In general, the body is able to maintain a balance between antioxidants and free radicals. 

Sometimes, and especially in our ever-modernizing world, the balance tips towards excess free radical production. Several things contribute to this, but include inflammatory foods, emotional and mental stress, health conditions, infection, radiation, and environmental toxins. A large body of scientific evidence suggests that long-term oxidative stress contributes to the development of a range of chronic conditions.

This is important for our emotional health because less oxidative stress (less free radicals = less 'negative' emotions). Limonene also helps boost the mood and calm the central nervous system, making Tangerine a wonderful oils for soothing the emotions.

Daily Habits with Tangerine

  • Dilute with a carrier oil and apply to your soles for happy feet and circulation.
  • Add to your car vent diffuser or a cotton ball stashed under the seats for an uplifting scent while you commute 
  • Give a glass of lemonade a twist by adding 1-2 drops of Tangerine Vitality.
  • Add 1-2 drops of Tangerine Vitality to your daily NingXia Red.
  • Add a few drops each of Tangerine and Tea Tree to your daily shampoo and massage into your scalp for a sweet, tingly sensation.

Start your day with some gentle liver and immune system support:

  • 6 oz vanilla yogurt (or plain)
  • 6 drops Orange Vitality
    Mix yogurt and Orange Vitality and use as a dip for the fruit or mix the fruit in the yogurt and refrigerate for an hour to chill, then enjoy.
Add a drop of Orange Vitality directly to your Thieves toothpaste for an extra bust. Orange and Orange Vitality essential oil is cold pressed from the rind of the fruit, making it alkaline and not acidic. You can also add Orange Vitality to your Thieves mouthwash.

Brushing teeth can sometimes be a struggle with kids, but using the citrusy KidScents Toothpaste from Young Living makes it so much more enjoyable! Not only will your kids love the taste, this advanced formula cleans teeth without any of the harsh additives found in most commercial toothpastes. Fluoride and GMO are, this plant-based toothpaste supports healthy-looking gums and teeth and is infused with he highest quality essential oils you can find.

Sadly, conventional kids' toothpaste formulas are filled with synthetic additives, artificial flavoring and coloring agents that are not just unnecessary, they are harmful when ingested in small qualities over time. The membrane lining of the mouth has an absorption efficiency of more than 90%, which means when we brush our teeth, we are brushing our gums too. And even if toothpaste isn't swallowed, it is still entering the bloodstream via the mucosal lining. Here are a few top offenders:

  • Sodium Laurel Sulfate (SLS): SLS promotes the foaming action of conventional toothpastes, but does nothing as far as efficacy. It has been linked to the development of canker sores and can change the way the taste buds work. (This is why everything tastes bad after you brush your teeth!)
  • Triclosan: This chemical is common in toothpaste and has been linked to antibiotic resistance and endocrine disruption. Disruption in the endocrine system can create serious effects, especially over time. This is also an active ingredient in hand sanitizers.
  • Artificial Dyes and Colors: To make the blue or red stripe that is perfectly placed in the middle of the toothpaste, manufacturers add food coloring, often a petroleum based product. Red 40 , Yellow 5 and Yellow 6 are the worst according to a report from the Center for Science in the Public Interest. Some of these food dyes come with side effects like hyperactivity and hypersensitivity reactions.
  • Propylene Glycol: Propylene glycol is used as the surfactant in conventional toothpaste to promote foaming. It is found extensively in paints, enamels, and antifreeze. Pharmaceutical grade propylene glycol is common in personal care products. Unfortunately, it can cause skin, lung and eye irrational.
  • Titanium Dioxide: White titanium dioxide is added to make toothpaste white, and is entirely unnecessary. It is also found in supplements, added to foods and to make paint white. Titanium dioxide is currently under review as far as its safety.

Thieves Dish Soap


When no way becomes hooray! Turn a hated chore into a pleasant experience with plant-based Thieves Dish Soap - now in an exclusive 16-oz size (not available for sale)
  • Add 1 tablespoon Thieves Dish Soap and a few drops of Lemon essential oil to a sink full of warm water before doing dishes.
  • Your dishes will be shiny and clean, and your task will be much more enjoyable.
Scrub up stone surfaces with this simple DIY. In a glass spray bottle, add:
  • 2 tablespoons of Thieves Dish Soap
  • 10 drops of Lavender
  • Fill with water, and clean!
Make a Stain Stick
  • 30 mL roller bottle (or empty 15 ml bottle with a roller ball for a half recipe)
  • fill just under half with Thieves Dish Soap
  • Add 10 drops Lemon essential oil
  • fill remainder with Thieves Household Cleaner
  • Use to spot treat any stains before washing
Give your scalp some TLC with this DIY Clarifying Shampoo & Scalp Treatment. Use an empty Thieves Dish Soap Bottle (or other squeeze bottle to allow you to target the scalp) and add:
  • Fill 1/3 with Thieves Dish Soap
  • Fill 1/3 with Thieves Household Cleaner
  • 10 drops Lavender
  • 10 drops Tea Tree
  • 10 drops Rosemary
  • fill with water and gently invert to mix well
  • To use, simply wash per usual or to target the scalp or needed areas, use the dish soap to apply to desired areas, then gently massage in well. Let sit for a few minutes before rinsing. 
Pre-treat stains on laundry with Thieves Dish Soap. Simply add the dish soap directly to the stain rub gently and let sit.
Lushious Lemon 
Essential Oil BLEND

This take on one of our tried and true oils is a new favorite for sure! Lemon meets Lemon Myrtle, Ylang Ylang, Spearmint, and Eucalyptus Globulus for a perfect mix that is bright, fresh, and clean.

Place Lushious Lemon infused cotton balls in the refrigerator, bathroom drawer, or trash can. This method (or diffusing) is better and more versatile than any candle.

Add some sunshine to your cleaning. Whip up a Lushious Lemon Cleaner. To a 16 oz glass spray bottle, add:
  • 15 drops Lushious Lemon essential oil blend
  • 1-2 capfuls Thieves Household Cleaner
  • Fill with water and gently invert to mix
  • Use on all surfaces
Upgrade your kitchen & bath scrub with a lemon-y twist. To a glass jar (such as the exclusive amber bottles below), add:
  • 1/2 cup Baking Soda
  • 10 drops Lushious Lemon essential oil blend
  • 1-2 tablespoons Thieves Household Cleaner
Whip up a simple mattress & upholstery spray with a lemony twist. To an 8 oz spray bottle, add:
  • 1 teaspoon Thieves Household Cleaner
  • 10 drops Lushious Lemon oil blend
  • Fill with water
  • Spray on upholstered surfaces to refresh as desired.
Give your shower a citrus-y boost with a DIY Lushious Lemon Shower Steamers.
  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1/4 cup to 1/3 cup distilled water
  • 25 drops Lushious Lemon oil blend
  • 1 silicone mold
    Step 1 - Add the baking soda to a glass mixing bowl and add 1/4 cup distilled water to the consistency of damp sand. Add water if needed.
    Step 2 - Add essential oil and continue to stir until well mixed, then scoop into a silicone mold. Use the back of a spoon or your fingers to compress the mixture to ensure there are no air pockets.
    Step 3 - Allow to dry in molds overnight. Once completely dry, remove from the molds and store in a glass jar.
    To use: Place the steamer your shower floor (out of direct water flow) and inhale the bright scent of Lushious Lemon.
Create your own unique bath gel. Simply add Lushious Lemon oil bend to Young Living's Bath and Shower Gel Base for a unique scent that the convenientional stores can't beat.

Diffuse this bright, happy blend in all the rooms in your house (or in your office, car, etc.).
Lemongrass Essential Oil

Create a refreshing linen spray. To an 8 oz glass spray bottle, add:
  • 20 drops Lemongrass essential oil
  • 10 drops each Lavender & Tangerine (optional
  • Fill with water and spritz over linens, towels, clothes - anything really!
Clean with a citrus-y queen. Enjoy cleaning with this bright scent! After turning on some music, add 3-4 drops to a sink full of dishes, a load of laundry, or an all-purpose cleaner.

Freshen up your laundry game by adding a few drops of Lemongrass to wool dryer balls (about 2 drops per ball) for fresh smelling laundry. Take it a step further and make a simple Laundry Scent Booster. To a glass jar with a lid, add the following:
  • 1 cup epsom salt
  • 1/2 cup sea salt (or more epsom salt)
  • 1/2 cup baking soda
  • 20-30 drops Lemongrass (add in Lavender, Rosemary, Tangerine, Peppermint or other oils as desired)
    Combine all the ingredients well. Let it sit to air dry a bit and then cover.
    To use - add 2-3 tablespoons of the mix directly to the load.
Freshen up any room. Diffuse Lemongrass for a quick way to chase away musty smells, refreshing and renew.
  • Laundry Day Blend: Lemongrass + Lavender + Tangerine + Rosemary
  • Citrus Shine: Lemongrass + Lemon + Tangerine
  • Garden Breeze: Lemongrass + Rosemary + Peppermint
  • Orchard Stroll: Lemongrass + Bergamot + Grapefruit
Thieves Wipes

Get rid of grime. When your travel agenda looks a little more planes and trains and less automobiles, use these wipes to spruce up public spaces with one swipe. Use these convenient wipes to clean:
  • Cell phones, e-readers, tablets, remotes
  • Kids toys and games
  • Glassware or mugs in hotel rooms
  • Car door handles, consoles, and carseats
  • Hands after touching menus, stair railings, anything grimy
Clean up messy fingers with these plant-based wipes or give your work desk a post-lunch pampering with a quick wipe down.

Clean little hands quickly at the end of the school day by stashing Thieves wipes in the car or in their backpacks.

Wipes dried out? Simply mix together 1/2 teaspoon Thieves Household cleaner with 2 tablespoon of water and pour over the wipes as needed.
Thieves Foaming Hand Soap

Double up on cleaning and self-care. Clean hands don't have to be dry hands. Show your hands some love with Thieves essential oil blend, tea plant extract, and aloe. Want a little more?
  • Add 10 drops of Cedarwood or Frankincense to each bottle
  • Following washing with Lavender Hand and Body Lotion.
Don't clean up with toxic chemicals. Instead, turn to this Thieves, Lemon, and Orange-infused hand soap for a sudsy, skin-softening dream. Keep on at every sink or gift one to a friend.

  • Thieves Foaming Hand Soap + a lovely dish towel tied together with a sprig of rosemary
