• Start by placing a drop of oil on your hands and allowing your pet to sniff.
• Remember animals have heightened smell, so a little goes a long way. 
• Dilute for small animals as much as you would for cats (Oils & Cats Spotlight), if not more.
• Exotic animals tend to like citrus oils, so introducing one of them first will likely allow the animal to prefer other oils.
• When adding oil to your pet's water, make sure to have a fresh water option available as well.
  
  
• For furry animals like ferrets, you can use similar applications as for small cats (Oils & Cats Spotlight).
• For other exotic animals, a water-based diffusion or spray method is more ideal. Water animals like lizards, frogs, or turtles absorb oils in the same way as fish – from plant matter within their water. One simple way to do this is to add a drop of citrus oil (Orange, Lemon, Citrus Fresh) to their drinking water (in a large container).
  
  
• For exotics in general (furry or not), 1 drop of oil for every quart of water OR for smaller animals or more dilution, you can dip a toothpick into the oil and swirl it in a quart of water.
• For amphibians, 1 toothpick of an oil (Purification is a good one), for every liter of water and allow them to soak.
• Misting is a great option for the hairless exotics! For small animals like amphibians, 1 toothpick or 1 drop of oil per 1 liter of water. For larger reptiles, up to 4 drops of oil for every 4 ounces of water.

• Infuse 1 pint of magnesium flakes or epsom salt with 15 drops Lavender
• Add 1 Tablespoon of mixture to a quart of warm water and soak for stuck sheds, minor injuries, scrapes, etc.

• Emotions and trauma - Frankincense, Peace & Calming, Stress Away, Lavender

• Apply one drop of your chosen oil to your hands and rub them together.  Hold your pet or allow them to sit close to you and get used to them. Do not try to force them to smell your hands or hold them. Let the animal approach you, and if they show interest in the area that has the oils let them sniff/approach at their own pace. 
• Diffuse your oils on the intermittent setting. Always ensure the animals aren't initially locked in a room and can come and go freely. Your pets should be able to leave the room at any time if they choose. Don't start the diffuser right over where they sleep initially, but only after they are comfortable with diffusing. If the animals pace or look at the diffuser often, they could be uncomfortable with the scent so just allow them to leave the area or add more water to the diffuser to dilute the scent further.
• Try the ‘Petting Method'. Simply apply an oil to your hands and gently “pet” your animal. The animal's hair will actually carry oils down the hair follicle into the skin. Only apply oils to a small part of the animal's coat or body initially. The oils will get where they need to go!
• Always start with 1 drop of essential oil, and apply more often versus using more drops.  This is especially important with cats because they metabolize differently (they lack a particular liver enzyme).
• In general, avoid the eye area, unless this area is one of need. According to Dr. Melissa Shelton, DVM, in this case you can use a very diluted ‘eye spritzer' (ex: up to 4 drops of Lavender in 120 mL water) to mist around the eyes.

• When using an oil for the first time or for pets under 20 lbs it's best to dilute with a 1:4 ratio or more. That's one drop of essential oil to 4 drops of carrier oil (like V-6 or coconut oil).  Apply oil(s) mid-spine to the tail and down the rear legs. Once animals are familiar with oils, they can be applied to the neck, head, outer ears, front legs, and so forth.
• In general, for animals over 20 lbs use a 1:1 dilution ratio.
• Always dilute “hot” oils like Oregano, Peppermint, Thieves, etc. You can always add more oil, so dilute more and apply more frequently versus diluting less.

• For cats - approximately 1 capsule of Allerzyme (Spotlight) daily; approximately ¼ to ½ of each capsule of EssentialZymes-4 (Spotlight) daily
• Adding a round of Life 9 after antibiotics, oral use of antimicrobial oils, severe diarrhea, or an infection is a wonderful way to support a healthy microbiome for your pets! For cats, ¼ to ½ capsule can be mixed with soft food, 2-3 times a day or as needed.
• MultiGreens (Spotlight) is a wonderful supplement to include for immune support, viral infections, and neurologic support (especially in the presence of conditions such as feline leukemia). For cats, ½ of a capsule daily (up to 1-2 whole capsules). 
• NingXia Red (Spotlight #1, Spotlight #2) is amazing for SO many things. For cats, about ½ tsp daily, up to 1 tsp during illness, divided in 3-4 doses. Dilute in fresh water, add to food, give in a syringe.

• We do recommend cleaning your diffuser for best results! For the Aria, YL recommends you wipe down after every use with a clean, dry cloth and, as needed, wash the glass bowl either by hand or in the dishwasher. For other diffusers, YL recommends:

• If essential oil begins to build up on the ultrasonic plate, gently wipe it off using a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol.

• To a 2 oz pump bottle add:

• In a double boiler melt: 3 Tbsp shea butter (use refined for less scent) + 2 Tbsp beeswax pellets
• In a separate bowl combine 2 Tbsp jojoba oil & 1 Tbsp cornstarch
• Mix well then add in the melted shea butter/beeswax mixture and mix with a hand mixer.
• Add 3-5  drops each Shutran, Idaho Blue Spruce, Rosemary, Cedarwood
  Mix well. Pomade will thicken as you mix. Transfer to a jar with an airtight lid.
  Store in a cool, dry place and use as desired.

Rosemary Essential Oil Spotlight

Rosemary has an earthy, sweet, herbaceous scent that is familiar and welcoming, but many people aren't aware that this oil is a powerhouse! Inhaling rosemary can help overcome mental fatigue, improve mental clarity and focus, ease anxiety and enhance analytic ability. Rosemary is a key player in our beloved Thieves blend and has been burned for centuries as incense to ward off sickness. To say we love this oil is an understatement!

• Eucalyptol - eucalyptol has a distinctive, fresh aroma that has a calming effect on the user when applied in aromatherapy. • 1.5 cup salt Epsom Salt
• 1/2 cup baking soda
• 30 drops Rosemary (or mix Rosemary and Eucalyptus)
  Whisk together until all ingredients are well combined.
  To use - add 1-2 tbsp into the washer before adding any laundry. Add laundry and the normal amount of laundry detergent.

• 16 oz glass spray bottle  
• 1-2 capfuls Thieves Household Cleaner
• 10 drops each Eucalyptus Radiata & Rosemary 
• 20 drops Grapefruit
• Filtered water

• ¼ cup avocado oil
• 10 drops Rosemary
• 5 drops Peppermint
• Optional: 5 drops Cedarwood (great for growth)
  Mix well and apply on hair starting at the ends. Let sit for up to 10 minutes then shampoo and condition as normal.

• 4 oz pump bottle 
• 20 drops Rosemary essential oil
• 10 drops Peppermint essential oil
• 10 drops Cypress essential oil
• Carrier of choice

• 2 Tbsp Organic Sugar
• 1 Tbsp Olive Oil
• 2 Tbsp of Honey

  Mix ingredients well then rub onto feet. Wrap feet with warm damp towels and let sit for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes remove the towel and wipe off the scrub. Follow with moisturizer if desired.

Sustainability is a really important facet of our lives, and simply being aware allows us to think outside the box when it comes to repurposing things. We don't have to be perfect or completely zero waste either. When we all do small things to reduce and reuse packaging, it can go a long way! 

You've already started your sustainability journey simply by using Young Living products. The company is committed to sustainable farming practices, regenerative farming and more when it comes to stewarding the earth. We want to be good stewards of the earth everyday in our homes as well, so here are a few simple tips, tricks and DIYs you can implement today! 

One simple way to work towards sustainability is to purchase products that are concentrated, making less packaging need to be recycled. Here are a few of our favorites:

• Thieves Household Cleaner (makes about 20 bottles of all purpose cleaner!)
• Thieves Laundry Soap (small bottle that does 64 loads)
• Thieves Foaming Hand Soap refill (this bottle fills 3-4 hand soaps)

• Rinse and use to store non-food items in the home.
• Cut off the zip top (recycle it with plastic bags) and use the clear plastic bag as a gift bag! Add tissue or paper to the bottom, then add items and tie at the top with ribbon.
• Recycle them with plastic grocery bags. (Many food packaging bags can be recycled this way as well. Just check the bottom of the bag!) 

• If you change your own oil in your vehicle, the Thieves Foaming Hand Soap bottle makes a great vessel for collecting oil! You can cut off the top if needed. Think of this long bottle as one with a built in funnel of sorts, and you'll find uses for sure.
• When your Thieves Household Cleaner is empty, keep the bottle and add a spray top to use in DIYs, for the garden, or mix up a second bottle of cleaner to keep in the bathroom.
• Use the empty bottles from the Thieves Household Cleaner or Thieves Laundry Soap to pre-dilute them for ease of use.
• Refill empty hand soap bottles and give to friends.
• Recycle any bottles you can't repurpose.
• Use Thieves Hand Sanitizer bottles for travel size shampoo and conditioner! Just wash out and fill with anything for a travel size option.
• Use empty Thieves Mints containers to store supplements on the go. 
• Use larger bottles to grow herbs! Take a Thieves Foaming Hand Soap Refill bottle, and cut off the top. Add some drainage holes to the bottom, plant desired herbs, and place in a sunny spot. You can also use the Thieves Laundry Soap, Thieves Household Cleaner and Thieves Dish Soap bottles.

• Use them as small vases.
• Use to create pre-made diffuser blends.
• Add a dropper top to use for DIY serums or diffuser blends.
• Refill them with the same oil and keep at a different location in the home.
• When bottles are empty, place in some epsom salt (mix them all in a large jar together!) to remove any remaining oil (then use the essential-oil infused epsom salt in your bath or a foot bath). OR place them in a jar of water and use the water in the diffuser.
• Use clean, empty bottles to make a windchime!

• Use the tubes to start seeds/seedlings for your garden.
• Cover in peanut butter and bird seed and hand in front of a window to watch the birds.
• Make spy glasses, telescopes or other creative toys with the cardboard tubes.
• Use the circular ends of tubes to paint interesting shapes.
• Use the tubes to store paint brushes or other small items.
• Gather multiple tubes, then tape onto a wall or a poster board in various arrangements, connecting some to each other, and let toddlers place soft balls through them like a marble maze. Here is an example! 
• Compost or recycle the boxes and tubes.
• Use the cardboard as a weed block in garden and flower beds. Simply lay it on the ground, cover with leaves or small mulch and allow it to sit before adding dirt and plants.
• Make a cardboard box tower by taping multiple boxes together, then let your kids paint it!
