Background

Young Living's Golden Turmeric powder is an excellent source of curcuminoids, which help support the wellness properties in our bodies. Chronic, low-level inflammation plays a major role in almost every chronic, Western disease. Therefore, anything that can help fight chronic inflammation is of potential importance in preventing and even treating these diseases.

Curcumin is strongly anti-inflammatory. In fact, it's so powerful that it matches the effectiveness of some anti-inflammatory drugs, without the side effects.
Curcumin is a potent antioxidant that can neutralize free radicals due to its chemical structure. In addition, curcumin boosts the activity of your body's own antioxidant enzymes.
Key Ingredients
Turmeric (Curcuma longa): Curcumin is potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant compound that also boosts the activity of the body's own antioxidant enzymes. Boswellia resin: Boswellia is a potent antioxidant that supports the body's own response to injury and recovery, scavenges free radicals and supports overall health.
Inflammation & Emotions

Everyone knows that chronic pain is exhausting both physically and emotionally. The same can be said of chronic inflammation as well. Chronic inflammation from injury, diet or other illnesses are like tiny fires within our bodies, and our systems are running to put out the fires all the time. Our emotions follow suit - running and running and running until we are at empty.

Modern science is researching this connection as well! Studies show that chronic stress is associated with increased inflammation, depression and negative emotions, attention changes and even dampened immune responses. Which is just even more evidence that we need to take small, daily actions to give our bodies all the things it needs to thrive! Learn More here

  • ½ Tsp Golden Turmeric powder
  • 8 oz milk of choice
  • 1 drop Cardamom Vitality
  • 1 drop Nutmeg Vitality
  • Swish of Cinnamon Bark Vitality (insert a toothpick into the bottle, then swirl it around in the milk)
  • Dash of ground cinnamon for garnish
  • Option to froth some of the milk and essential oils in an electric frother for delicious foam!
Heat the milk on medium low, then stir in Golden Turmeric powder and add essential oils. Stir gently, then top with a sprinkle of cinnamon!
Make a Turmeric Clay Mask (adapted from Hello Glow):
  • 1/2 teaspoon Golden Turmeric Powder
  • 2 Tbsp flour of choice or ground oats
  • 3 Tbsp full fat yogurt or milk
  • A few drops of honey
  • 3 drops Manuka essential oil
  • 3 drops Frankincense essential oil
Mix flour, turmeric, honey and milk to make a paste. Add essential oils. Apply a thin layer to your face and let it dry for 10-15 minutes (see below for guidelines). Rinse and scrub gently to remove.
While the powerful antioxidants present in turmeric impart that vibrant yellow color, be aware that this same color can stick around a little too long.  A good rule of thumb to follow is the one minute rule — if you notice no discoloration after sixty seconds, leave on for another four minutes. Test again, and keep it on all the way until 10 or 15 minutes, which should be the max for most products and at-home solutions.

Thieves Oil Spotlight - Oct 2022

Thieves & Thieves Vitality
Essential Oil Blend Spotlight

This month we're focusing on all the simple ways we can support our bodies through the fall and winter, and Thieves essential oil blend is a key player!

Thieves & Thieves Vitality Essential Oil

If there were only one oil we could have in our arsenal, it would probably be Thieves. This blend of Clove, Lemon, Cinnamon Bark, Eucalyptus Radiata, and Rosemary essential oils smells like a warm cup of chai and is a powerhouse when it comes to our health and our homes!

Just A Drop of Thieves…
  • Cleansing when applied topically
  • Diffuse to create a fresh, healthy environment
  • Provides immune system support
  • Cleansing to the digestive system
  • Source of antioxidants
Thieves is THE oil for immune support. We're talking what you want to reach for daily to give your body a little extra boost and definitely what you want to reach for when your defenses start to go down. A quick PubMed search for the individual oils in this blend will have you convinced that these oils can be a powerful tool for our health!

Thieves Background

Formulated by Young Living founder, D. Gary Young, this blend was created from research recorded in the archives of the British Museum library about a group of 14th century European perfumers and spice traders who rubbed oils on themselves while they robbed the dead and dying. The first essential oil blend to be scientifically evaluated in a university research laboratory, Thieves has a rich, spicy aroma, and is a key ingredient in the Thieves Home Collection – your go to for an invigorating clean and healthy home.

Key Constituents

*Constituents are naturally occurring compounds in plants (and therefore essential oils) that give them specific health-supporting properties

  • Eugenol - known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory support as well as  antimicrobial activity
  • Eucalyptol - has a calming effect when applied in aromatherapy; may have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial effects; supports airway opening.
  • Linalool - supports stress relief and uplifts the mood
Thieves & Emotions

Thieves is a powerhouse for our health, both physical and emotional. This makes a lot of sense since our emotions are closely linked with our physical health. When we are sick our energy is low, we struggle with brain fog and lethargy. Thieves can help us there! Rosemary, Clove, and Cinnamon are all wonderful for helping combat brain fog, clearing the mind, and energizing our spirits. Diffuse, apply, add to an Epsom salt bath.

Thieves is a wonderful choice when you need to help promote clarity. If you're feeling uncertain or unfocused, the blend of oils in Thieves can be helpful. Dilute and apply it over the throat or over the liver.

Product Options

Thieves Essential Oil blend is also infused into a line of home and personal care items that are staples in our homes - cleanerhand soapdish and laundry soaptoothpastemouthwash and more. And even More Amazing Thieves Products on this blog post.

The Autumn Handbook 2022

The 2022 Autumn Handbook

It's the season of cinnamon spice, pumpkins, and your favorite scarf. It's the time of year when the air has a chill and the leaves start falling.

Grab a mug of your favorite fall beverage (see ideas below!) and cozy up with this extensive guide to all things Fall!

Cozy Home Favorites

Halloween Diffuser Cauldron or Autumn Pumpkin
Here is some simple and fun seasonal decor using your diffuser + favorite fall oils! You will need:
  • Your diffuser!
  • A plastic decorative cauldron or galvanized pumpkin
  • Orange & Clove essential oils
Step 1 - Poke a hole on the side/ bottom of the cauldron/pumpkin if plastic for the diffuser's cord. If using metal, simply set the diffuser in and lift the cord out the back.
Step 2 - Fill your diffuser with water, add oils, turn on. Add spider web or tissue paper on top of the cauldron as desired!
Anthropologie Inspired Blends: Diffuse it, Roll it, Spray it!!
These are some of our favorite diffuser blends for the fall season, but they make great rollers and sprays as well! The recipes below are for a standard diffuser and can be adapted easily!

  • To make a diffuser bomb - multiply the quantity of each oil by 10-20 and place in a dropper bottle with a pretty label. (You can also reuse old YL bottles and add a bamboo dropper top.)
  • To make a 10mL roller - have the total number of drops around 30-50 and fill with carrier of choice.
  • To make a 2oz spray - multiply the drops by 3-5, add a splash of witch haze and top with water in a glass spray bottle and add a label.
Mulled Wine diffuser blend
  • 2 drops Clove
  • 3 drops Orange
  • 3 drops Cinnamon Bark
  • 2 drops Nutmeg
Pumpkin Clove diffuser blend
  • 3 drops Stress Away
  • 3 drops Clove
  • 2 drops Nutmeg
  • 2 drops Vanilla
  • 3 drops Cinnamon Bark
Falling Leaves diffuser blends
  • 1 drop Vetiver
  • 3 drops Sage
  • 3 drops Nutmeg
  • 4 drops Idaho Balsam Fir (or other tree oil)
Sugar Cookies diffuser blend
  • 4 drops Vanilla
  • 4 drops Cinnamon Bark
  • 2 drops Lemon
  • 1 drop Nutmeg
Chai Spice Wool Dryer Balls
Make your laundry smell like fall with these scented dryer balls! Place 3 drops of each oil onto each wool dryer ball and let sit for a few hours before use (recommended to make sure no oil spots transfer to your laundry). Or simply drop one of each oil onto a ball and use immediately. For even faster use, premix these essential oils in an empty bottle and place in your laundry for easy use.
Pumpkin Succulent Diffuser
Create a cute, fun and festive centerpiece with a pumpkin, some succulents and essential oils!
  • Plastic pumpkins - real work as well but don't last as long
  • Potting soil
  • Small succulents
  • Natural materials - wood slices, Spanish moss, small pine cones, wood rings, etc. (find them at the craft store)
  • Essential oils of choice
Step 1 - Simply cut the top off of your pumpkin and scoop out the inside if you're using a real one.
Step 2 - Fill about 3/4 with soil, then plant 2-3 small succulents into the top.
Step 3 - Add moss, wood slices and rings, small pinecones, anything fall and festive that will soak in essential oils! Add 3-4 drops of oil to the porous materials for a 'diffuser' or spritz with a DIY room spray (witch hazel + water + EOs) every few days!
NOTE - If you use a real pumpkin, this will only last about a month at most. Using a plastic or ceramic pumpkin will extend the life of the diffuser/succulents indefinitely.
Festive Wreath Diffuser
Create your own festive wreath (and switch it out each season!) with some florals and essential oils.
DIY Scented Pine Cones
This is a fun one because you get yourself outside and collect pinecones in various shapes and sizes. If you have kids they will love doing this with you!
  • Pinecones gathered from your neighborhood, or unscented ones from the craft store
  • Ceramic, glass, or stainless bowl
  • Essential oils of choice
Step 1Preheat oven to 200°. Line an old baking sheet with aluminum foil and place pinecones on baking sheet. Bake pinecones for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool completely.
Step 2 - Add pinecones to the bowl, then add essential oils of your choice about 30 total drops. Seal the bowl & shake so that the oils soak into the pinecones. Leave the bowl in a cool dark place for at least one week. The longer you can leave the bowl covered the better your pinecones will be scented.
Step 3 - Now they are ready to be displayed on your favorite tray!
Cinnamon Pinecone Fire Starters
This craft is a very simple one that my kids LOVE! It starts with gathering pine cones, which is always a fun fall task.
  • Pine cones in various sizes
  • Yarn of desired color (or even dryer lint!)
  • Essential oils
Step 1 - Gather your pine cones and spray with diluted Thieves Cleaner, then let sit overnight to dry.
Step 2 - Once dry, wrap the yarn around the pine cones as desired. You can wrap all of it in the center or cover the whole thing - it's up to you! Just weave the yarn through the individual ‘leaves' of the pine cone.
Step 3 - Drop a few drops of Cinnamon Bark essential oil (or your other favorite fall scents) onto the yarn and let it sit overnight. Store then next to the fireplace, and add 2-3 to the wood when starting a fire!

For the Little Oilers

Pumpkin Pie Play Dough
An activity for the kids with the option of being free of harmful dyes and ingredients and leaves the house and their little hands smelling AMAZING plus it has immune boosting properties! You can make this together, super easy, then let them play the crisp, fall day away!!
  • 2 cups cornstarch
  • 1 cup Kidscents lotion
  • 4 drops Cardamom
  • 2 drops Orange
  • 1 drop Cinnamon bark
  • 1 drop Clove
Mix all the ingredients together and let their imaginations run wild!
DIY Clay Leaf Tray
This DIY tray is a fun craft for the little ones to make and gift! Before the clay hardens, you can drop essential oils onto it. Choose stronger scents like Cinnamon Bark, Clove, Thieves or Peppermint to ensure more scent.
  • Air dry clay
  • Craft paper
  • Rolling pin
  • Craft paint (we like the metallic colors)
  • Paint brushes
  • Modge Podge gloss or other sealer
  • Various leaves from your yard
Step 1 - Explore around your yard and gather your leaves! Cut out a piece of air dry clay, then roll it out about 1/2 inch thick, making sure your leaf will fit fully onto the clay.
Step 2 - Press your leaf (vein side down) onto the clay. Make sure all parts of the leaf press in so that you get all the pretty nuances of the leaf!
Step 3 - Remove the leaf from the clay, and cut around the outline with a knife (have adults do this part), then remove the excess air dry clay from around your imprint. Go around the perimeter of the leaf and gently press the sides up and in to create a small edge If adding oils, do so now.
Step 4 - Allow the clay to air dry and harden. We set ours on a baking rack so that both sides were exposed to air. After 24 hours they had hardened and were ready to paint!
Step 5 - Paint! Once the paint is dry, cover with a coat of Modge Podge gloss, then let that dry for 24 hours. After the coating is dry, have your children sign the back and write the year.
We hope you enjoy this Autumn Handbook. Bring the family together and try some of these projects!

Nutmeg Oil Spotlight - Sept 2022

Nutmeg Essential Oil Spotlight

This month we're focusing on all the great things we can do for energy and vitality, and Nutmeg and Nutmeg Vitality are two products at the top of the list!

Nutmeg is an essential fall scent. Warm and welcoming, grounding and so good for our immune and adrenal systems! But it is SO much more than that. Nutmeg helps our bodies to manage stress responses naturally - something that everyone needs these days. Plus it is great for focus, energy, and vitality!

Just a Drop of Nutmeg

  • Has a warm, spicy aroma
  • Offers an energizing and uplifting aroma when diffused or inhaled
  • Can be applied topically to open and support the airways
  • Can be used to soothe tired muscles following physical activity
  • Helps support the body's stress systems and adrenals
  • Support cognitive function and the immune system
  • Contains antioxidants
  • Offers cleansing properties
If there were one oil you could use to support your adrenal system (the stress system!) it would be Nutmeg. This oil is high in the constituents sabinene, alpha-pinene and beta-pinene, making it a wonderful option to support the digestive system, to protect the liver, to help maintain healthy circulation and to provide the adrenals with the support they need on a daily basis.

Nutmeg Vitality contains antioxidants, may support cognitive function and the immune system, and offers cleansing properties. In addition, it can be used to add a warm and spicy flavor to soups, fall vegetables, and baked goods. Nutmeg and Nutmeg Vitality are the same essential oil, simply labeled differently for aromatic/topical use and ingestion.

NUTMEG, STRESS & THE ADRENALS

Our adrenals are very small glands that can cause a lot of grief when they aren't well maintained. However, they don't work in isolation. Energy levels and the hormones that are released from our adrenals trace back to commands from our nervous system. They are workers, doing a job. If we do not change the instructions they are receiving, they don't have permission to do anything but exactly what they are doing - trying to help you survive.

The adrenals have to work overtime when we are stuck in Fight or Flight mode. Imagine you were called in to do “temporary” overtime at a job 15 or 30 years ago, but your schedule never went back to normal. I would personally have left the job! But our adrenals are stuck with us. You may have heard that this stress mode is like a bear is chasing you - and it never stops.

Negative emotions are threats that switch on the signal for “danger” in your mind, and your body does not know the difference between these kinds of threats and physical threats - it is all bad and meant to be fought or run from. It doesn't really matter if it is truly threatening, your survival switch is ON and the program is on autopilot.

If you identify with energy or stress issues, you may be ready to reprogram some of those signals. Enter - Nutmeg!

Take a couple minutes as you're falling asleep to inhale Nutmeg and to plant thoughts that will turn off your adrenal threats. Diffuse Nutmeg in your bedroom before you go to sleep, and inhale some directly from the bottle. Apply a couple drops to your mid back.

Think about how you want the next day to go, and imagine waking up really refreshed. Picture something you love to do and imagine working more of that into your day. Imagine yourself setting healthy boundaries around your time, and not being as drained in the areas where you are truly needed. See yourself at peace, and having passion without fear or anxiety. Most of all, let this revolve around you personally choosing peace inside, and not around having to control anyone else's decisions or actions. Remind yourself that the things you are doing are part of a journey, and that you can feel great about who you are becoming without beating yourself up to get there faster.

When you wake up, get yourself going with another Nutmeg pick-me-up by applying it over your mid back again, and inhaling it deeply. Remind yourself that it's okay to expect the best from the day, because that's how you start to CHOOSE the best.

Nutmeg is also found in some of our favorite products for energy and vitality:

A Few Notes on Fragrance...

If you turn over your favorite good smelling products, you'll often find the word ‘fragrance' in the ingredients. But what is fragrance??

Fragrance chemicals are organic compounds that volatilize, or vaporize into the air, which is why we can smell them. They are added to household and personal care products to give them a scent or to mask the odor of other ingredients. Unfortunately, the volatile organic chemicals (VOCs - think the smell of paint or paint thinner) emitted by fragrance products can contribute to poor indoor air quality and are associated with a variety of adverse health effects. They are pretty much the last thing you want in a product you are burning for ambiance and aroma.

But it gets a little bit worse…. Did you know that to protect trade secrets, makers are allowed to withhold fragrance ingredients, so consumers can't rely on labels to know what hazards may lurk inside those festive scented candles (and room sprays.. and wall plugs… and perfumes.. and cosmetics…). This is called the “fragrance loophole” in federal labeling law. Although all other ingredients in your scented household and personal care products must be disclosed on the label by their specific name, this loophole means that ingredients added to provide a pleasant scent, or to mask a bad one, need only be listed under the generic term “fragrance.”

The Environmental Working Group (EWG) reports that, while many popular candles and room sprays contain trace amounts of natural essences, they also typically contain a dozen or more potentially hazardous synthetic chemicals, some of which are derived from petroleum. According to the EWG,

“Exposure to fragrance chemicals can cause headaches; eye, nose, and throat irritation; nausea; forgetfulness; loss of coordination; and other respiratory and/or neurotoxic symptoms. Many fragrance ingredients are respiratory irritants and sensitizers, which can trigger asthma attacks and aggravate sinus conditions.”

One example of a harmful ingredient (there are many!) when it comes to fragrance, is styrene, an ingredient added to a wide variety of consumer products. A 2011 finding by the National Toxicology Program (endorsed by the Academy's National Research Council) found that styrene is “reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen.”

We know only that styrene might be an ingredient in any given fragrance because the International Fragrance Association, an industry trade group, publishes an online “Transparency List” of ingredients that perfumers say they use in formulas for consumer products. Styrene is one of the 3,000-odd ingredients on the list. According to the EWG,

When you add up the number of products in your bathroom cabinets and under your kitchen sink that contain “fragrance” – and may contain styrene – the total could be many exposures to a substance we now know is “reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen.”

THIS is why we are so passionate about ditching conventional products and switching to Young Living's clean, effective and safe options! Young Living NEVER uses fragrance in their products - they don't even need to because of the incredible essential oils. Thieves Essential Oil Spotlight - August 2022

Thieves Essential Oil Spotlight

If there were only one oil we could have in our arsenal, it would probably be
Thieves essential oil blend. This blend of Clove, Lemon, Cinnamon Bark, Eucalyptus Radiata, and Rosemary essential oils smells like a warm cup of chai and is a powerhouse when it comes to our health and our homes!

Just a Drop of Thieves

  • Cleansing when applied topically
  • Diffuse to create a fresh, healthy environment
  • Provides immune system support
  • Cleansing to the digestive system
  • Source of antioxidants
Why we Love Thieves

Constituents are naturally occurring compounds in plants (and therefore essential oils) that give them specific health-supporting properties.

Thieves Essential Oil blend is also infused into a line of home and personal care items that are staples in our homes:
Note: Thieves and Thieves Vitality are the same essential oil. Vitality oils are labeled for ingestion but contain the same oil as the non-vitality option.

Super B

Super B is a B complex supplement that is great for maintaining healthy energy levels, supporting mood, heart health and mental clarity. Our current lifestyles often leave our adrenal system (our fight or flight response) on overdrive, and B vitamins are a great way to give them some TLC!

B vitamins are essential to our health and well-being, and each B vitamin performs a unique and separate function. B vitamins are water soluble so must be replenished daily.

WHO SHOULD USE SUPER B?
  • Anyone under stress, as it depletes B vitamins in our bodies
  • Anyone who battles candida. Some believe a lack of it causes overgrowth.
  • Anyone who needs energy. It nourishes our adrenals and combats fatigue.
  • Anyone struggling mentally and emotionally, a deficiency can be linked to many anxious, exhausted, dark feelings and thoughts.
  • Anyone who struggles with anemia, is pregnant, or doesn't eat a strong whole food diet. While we DO NOT need folic acid which is all over our processed foods and grains, we do need folate which is what you will find in this whole-food supplement.
Create a daily stress-less protocol:

  • Take 2 Super B Tablets in the morning (or one in the morning and one around noon).
  • Apply the Adrenal Love (Stress Recovery) Serum over the lower back morning and evening. To a oz glass dropper bottle, add:
  • Roll EndoFlex over the front of the throat (thyroid) and lower back (adrenals) morning and evening. Simply add a roller top to the bottle!
  • Drink 2-4oz of NingXia Red daily. Make it fun! Mix it up with some kombucha, coconut water and/or sparkling water.
  • Consider adding Progessence Plus Serum to your routine.

Satin Mint Facial Scrub

The OG favorite facial scrub is yours for FREE this month!! Satin Facial Scrub polishes and gently lifts and removes dry, dead skin cells to reveal bright and even-looking skin. Plus, it has pure Peppermint premium essential oil for a minty scent and tingly fresh feel that helps even the gloomiest days off to a great start.

  • Use this refreshing facial scrub 2-3 times a week.
  • TIP: Keep your Satin Mint Scrub in the shower to start your day with a fresh, tingly feeling!
Create a spa-day at home!
  • Fire up your diffuser with Eucalyptus, Lemon and Rosemary and place it in the bathroom with the shower or bath running to utilize the steam from the water.
  • Add a Lavender bath bomb to your bath or a large handful of magnesium flakes with a few drops of Eucalyptus oil.
  • Climb in and relax!
  • Use the Satin Mint scrub while you soak, leaving on for a few minutes to enjoy the tingle!

Thieves Kitchen & Bath Scrub

Thieves Kitchen and Bath Scrub is the perfect naturally derived cleaner: tough on messes and safe for your family! You get the power of a surface scrub without all of the harmful chemical smells and residue in conventional options.

  • Sprinkle Thieves Kitchen and Bath Scrub onto a wet surface or sponge. Rub the surface with a cloth or sponge for a sparkling clean, then rinse.
  • GREAT for sinks, countertops, commodes, showers, tile, even floors.
  • Use it to naturally tackle soap scum, built-up grease and grime, and hard-water stains in the kitchen and bathroom.
  • Keep it on hand for cleaning ovens, grills and barbecues as well.
  • Use to clean oven-stained pots and pans or any stubborn kitchen stains!

Charcoal Mask

When you're pampering and detoxing your skin with a mask, the last thing you should have to worry about is harsh, synthetic ingredients!! Made with Tahitian volcanic black sand to gently exfoliate for softer, glowing skin, activated charcoal and a blend of ethically sourced kaolin clays, this mask will lift dirt and oil, purify pores, detox skin, and help restore the appearance of an even skin tone.

For oily, combination, and normal skin - Cleanse face with a gentle, non-irritating cleanser; then apply a thin layer of the mask to clean face and allow the mask to harden for 5–20 minutes. Once the mask has changed color and is hard, rinse with warm water to remove. Avoid the eye area, nostrils, and lips. Follow with the rest of your skin care routine, including moisturizer to rehydrate. Use 1–3 times per week.

For dry and sensitive skin - Apply a thin layer of the mask to a clean face and allow the mask to harden for 5–10 minutes. Once the mask has changed color and is hard, rinse with warm water to remove. Avoid the eye area, nostrils, and lips. Your skin will likely feel dry after rinsing, so promptly follow with the rest of your skin care routine, including moisturizer to rehydrate. Use as needed or as a spot treatment.

Create a skincare and true self-care ritual:
  • Add a calming blend to your diffuse (Lavender, Tangerine + Patchouli is a great one!)
  • Turn on a gentle fan or space heater to make the environment comfortable.
  • Take time to wash your face, then apply the Charcoal Mask.
  • As it sits, brush and floss your teeth (10/10 recommend Thieves AromaBright Toothpaste and Dental Floss), apply some Lavender Hand & Body Lotion, or some CBD Muscle Rub to the tense areas of your neck and shoulders, drink some water, and take your Life 9 Probiotic.
  • Use warm water to remove the mask, then apply a moisturizer like CBD Beauty Boost or BLOOM or your desired moisturizer.
  • Finish with lip balm and your favorite sleep roller (Tranquil is a fan fave!).

Perfume Sprays DIY - July 2022

DIY Perfume Sprays

Ditching conventional perfumes is possibly one of the most impactful things you can do for your health, but that doesn't mean you can't still smell great! Whip up your own, customized perfume with this simple recipe and change your scents with the seasons.

When it comes to making your own perfumes, you will want to layer different scents to create base fragrances, mid-tones, and top notes. When you smell a perfume, the top notes are typically the first thing you smell, followed by middle and then base notes. When you are actually making the perfume, you'll want to start with base notes first and work your way up.

Base Notes

These are about 15-30% of the blend. Think heavier, warm scents like:
  • Vanilla
  • Cedarwood, Spruce and 'tree oils'
  • Frankincense, Myrrh
  • Sandalwood, Vetiver
  • Patchouli
  • Clove, Cassia, Cinnamon
Middle Notes

These should be the bulk of your blend at 30-60% and are usually full-bodied, complex, and comprise the focal point of the blend while also balancing other components.
  • Rose, Jasmine, Geranium
  • Lavender, Chamomile, Rosemary
  • Ylang Ylang, Clary Sage
  • Cardamom, Ginger, Lemongrass, Black Pepper
Top Notes

These should be 10-25% of your blend. These oils are sharp, uplifting, refreshing, and light to finish of the blend.
  • Peppermint, Spearmint
  • Grapefruit, Tangerine, Lemon (citrus oils)
  • Eucalyptus, Basil, Juniper
  • Pine, Sage
Choose one or two scents from each category, and combine them until you end up with a fragrance you love! Lighter recipes work well for the warmer months, while cooler months are great for deeper, spicer combinations.

If layering feels too complicated, simply follow your nose. Grab a few bottles of oil, open all of them and hold them under your nose together to get a feel for the aroma. Trust your instincts as to what you enjoy because you truly cannot go wrong.

DIY Perfume Spray Base Recipe
  • Pretty glass perfume bottles
  • 1 tbsp V-6 Vegetable Oil Complex (or any unscented carrier oil)
  • 2 tbsp pure grade alcohol or vodka
  • 30-40 drops of essential oil of choice (as described above)
  • 1 tbsp distilled water
  • dried flowers, gemstones, fresh organic flower petals (optional)
Recipe Ideas

  • Summer Citrus - 10 drops Grapefruit + 10 drops Orange + 5 drops Peppermint + 3 drops Lavender + 3 drops Roman Chamomile
  • Anthro Inspired - 10 drops Grapefruit + 10 drops Bergamot + 5 drops Northern Lights Black Spruce + 5 drops Citrus Fresh
  • Island Time - 5 drops Frankincense + 2 drops Patchouli + 7 drops each Lime, Bergamot & Orange + 5 drops Lavender + 2 drops Separmint
  • Flower Power - 5 drops each Rose & Jasmine + 7 drops each Tangerine & Lavender
  • Vanilla Chai - 10 drops Vanilla + 3 drops Clove + 5 drops Cassia + 7 drops Stress Away
  • Bougie Hippie - 10 drops each Jasmine, Neroli & Vanilla
  • Jasmine Aloe Mist - 25 drops Jasmine + 6 tbsp aloe-infused witch hazel in place of alcohol and water (great for summer skin!). The witch hazel will lock in moisture without drying skin, while aloe vera provides hydration without any greasy residue.

Add this trio to your diffuser while you shower, get dressed or even make breakfast for an easy pick me up that supports you both physically and emotionally.

In our modern world, stillness and rest don't come easy, and we have to be intentional about finding time to slow down, disconnect and simply be still.

When you are intentional with this practice, the noise of the outside world dies down, and you can find inner rest.

This is a huge part of self-care - quieting all the noise. Add these oils to your diffuser, get comfy and just be still!

Sun, salt and sand. They all have a healing effect on our bodies and our minds. Invite in the calm, peaceful feeling of a saltwater breeze with this diffuser blend.

These oils are wonderful anytime of day, but they can be especially helpful when you need to bring the light, happy feeling of summer and sunshine into your space.

Do you take a rest day every week? This is one self-care practice that has a huge impact, especially in our modern, fast-paced world.

Not only will you benefit from the rest day brings, you'll have more inspiration and energy as you start your week. And those round you will benefit as well.

This blend is the perfect combination of tree oils and citrus - a little woodsy and a little bright - and is wonderful for bringing a little zen to any space.

Whenever possible, I like to start my morning with some quiet time alone before the house awakes. Try making this a part of your morning routine.

Add these oils to your diffuser, breathe deeply, and slowly release your breath. Repeat as you relax your shoulders and jaw.

This trio of oils is wonderful for your respiratory system as well as your emotions.

When it comes to uplifting diffuser blends, you can't go wrong with a combination of citrus favorites. Add in a little Stress Away for those instant beach vibes, and you have the perfect sunshine-inspired combination.

Try this blend when you're feeling low, frustrated or heavy. Breathe in deeply and allow the feeling of peace and serenity that comes with the warmth of the sun to settle in.

The Summer Handbook 2022

The 2022 Summer Handbook

Hello summer. Warm weather, sunshine-filled days and vacations (or staycations) are on the agenda, and we are ready for it all - with our favorite oils and Young Living products in tow! The lazy days of summer won't find us relaxing on our health, so here are some of our best tips, tricks, recipes and DIYs for enjoying the summer months to the fullest.

Wellness 101

School may be out for the summer, but we aren't getting lax on our wellness routines. Summer is a great time to really focus on great daily wellness habits that we can continue when the colder months arrive! Here are five simple things we're dong everyday this summer to focus on true self-care and overall health.

Master Formula
Our favorite daily multivitamin that packs a HUGE nutritional punch and helps us work towards daily wellness. The prepackaged capsules make traveling with this supplement so easy, too. Check out the Master Formula Supplement Spotlight bog post for more on this daily favorite.

Daily Red (NingXia Red, that is!)
If there were only one habit that you can start or continue during the summer, a daily dose of NingXia Red would be it. This delicious supplement is a powerhouse of antioxidants and nutrients that we want for everyone in the family. Check out the NingXia Red Spotlight blog post for more on this incredible supplement.

Wellness Roller
This bend is something we use year round to help keep our immune systems on the go! We roll this blend over the lymph nodes, on the feet, or along the spine morning and evening year round, then us it more frequently as needed. To a 10 mL roller bottle, add:
  • 25 drops each Thieves, Pine & Lemon
  • 20 drops each Geranium & Frankincense
  • fill with a carrier oil of choice
Note: If you plan to be in direct sunlight, apply this somewhere your clothing will cover.
Diffusing 24/7
If we are awake (and even overnight too), our diffuser is on . Diffusing is such an incredible health habit. Not only will your home or office (and car too) smell amazing, you get the health benefits of breathing in the oils.

  • Start the morning off with Raven + Lemon to get everyone going and support the airways
  • Set the stage for a peaceful midday rest with Lavender + Grapefruit + Vanilla.
  • Bring the 'afternoon pick-me-up' vibes of a cup of coffee with Peppermint + Tangerine + Stress Away.
  • End your day with Thieves + Cedarwood to boost immunity and promote restful sleep.
Ditching and Switching
One of the biggest impacts you can have on your health is by ditching conventional products that are FULL of toxins and fragrance. Sadly these ingredients are often hidden or disguised by clever marking (greenwashing anyone?) or renamed as things that sound more natural. Here are a few simple swaps to make this summer.

Wellness Bonus - Raindrop Oral Spray

Sometimes our defenses need a little extra boost, and this combinational of oils is our go-to when we need something a little 'more.' This is a great one to have on hand when traveling. To a 10 mL glass spray bottle, add:

Did you see all of these other DIY Oral Sprays to add to your arsenal? Check it out for so many more oral sprays to try!

Fun in the Sun

'Tis the season for hot, sunshine-filled days, and we want to soak in every second of it while staying safe and health. Here are our top three necessities for safe, healthy fun in the sun.

Hands-down, the Young Living Mineral Sunscreen is our favorite sunscreen. It checks all of our boxes - reef safe, effective, all natural, great for all skin types, non-nano zinc, won't clog pores. What else is there?

Quick Tip - Make YL's Mineral Sunscreen application easy with this hack! Makes it even easier to apply, especially with kids by adding some to your hands and apply to the face.

LavaDerm After Sun Spray is your first aid kit BFF! LavaDerm brings relief from the pain and itching of minor burns, cuts, sunburns, scrapes, insect bites, or really any minor skin irritation. Whether or not your skin has seen a little too much sun or wind, this spray will help you feel soothed and refreshed. Apply after a day outdoors for a sigh of relief.

Quick Tip - If you need some relief ASAP and don't have any LavaDerm on hand, try this DIY After Sun Spray:

No one wants to come in from a wonderful day outdoors with tons of itchy bites from outdoor pests... and you won't have to with the Young Living Insect Repellent! This liquid formula effectively prevents mosquito, flea, and tick bits - so you can enjoy the great outdoors worry free.

This incredible formula is gentle enough for the little ones, yet effective. You can use an empty Thieves Surface Spray bottle for easy applications. It is also available as wipes, with makes application on the go super easy!

Grab the Insect Repellent bottle and make it into a spray for easy use:
  • Continuous spray bottle
  • Bottle of YL Insect Repellent
  • 3 tbsp fractioned coconut oil or ClaraDerm Spray
  • 20 drops Citronella essential oil
Add all items to the spray bottle, but add the insect repellent last (it will not all fit!)
Quick Tip - If you live in a state that has shipping exclusions for the Insect Repellant, try the wipes! Still can't order because of limitations - add a spray top directly to your bottle of Citronella. Also try this DIY Outdoor Spray. To a small continuous spray bottle, add:
  • 25 drops each Citronella, Geranium, Lemongrass, & Lavender
  • 20 drops Eucalyptus Radiata & Tea Tree
  • V-6 Vegetable Oil or carrier of choice
Note: if you want to use a larger bottle, simply double the recipe. Also, if you feel you need a stronger formula or are expertly susceptible to outdoor pests, add more Citronella, Lemongrass and/or Geranium.

Photosensitive Oils

Summer and citrus oils are synonymous, and we are all about using citrus oils this time of year. As always, we want to keep everyone healthy and safe, so make sure to separate application of citrus oils and exposure to sunlight. As a general rule, avoid direct UV exposure to an area where you applied citrus oils for a minimum of 12 hours, up to 48 hours.

WHY?
Citrus Oils (and some others) contain natural molecules that react with sunlight and cause sensitivity to the skin. All of the Young Living oils and blends that contain these compounds re labeled with a warming to avoid sun/UV light for 12 to 48 hours after applying.

Does that mean you have to put your beloved Grapefruit and Bergamot away for the summer? NO WAY! Just apply to areas that won't be exposed to the sun for at least 24 hours (basically under your clothes). And you can always diffuse.

Beach Essentials

Summertime and beach trips are synonymous, and we are ready for all the sunshine and sand. Here's what we're packing in our beach bags this year.

Quick tip - Easily remove all the sand from everyone's feet, legs, and hands with Seedlings Baby Wipes. We keep a pack in every bag for easy sand removal and clean, fresh hands.

NingXia Red Recipes

Daily Red is a thing in our household - everyone gets their NingXia Red every day! And whether we just want to mix thing up a bit or want a healthier alternative to conventional options, these NingXia Red recipes are favorites in our summer rotation.

Superfood Lemonade Popicles

These simple, delicious popsicles are a HUGE hit in our house, and my kids love to help make them. The best part is you can't mess them up. There isn't a specific amount of each ingredient needed, so just pour a little of each item into your mold and go.
Quick Tip - Heading out to the pool, beach or a hike? Simply freeze your NingXia packets overnight, then pack in a plastic bag and enjoy that afternoon as a cool, slushy-like treat.

Anytime NingXia Spritzers

Whether you're pool side, riding in the car or simply lounging on your couch or porch, this spritzer is the perfect companion. But be warned, your kids/friends/husband will want to setal it.
Go Red Electrolyte Replacement

Ditch the artificially flavored and colored electrolyte drinks and whip up your own with this simple recipe. You can also always grab the Lavender Lemonade or Grapefruit Bergamot Vitality Drops for a quick electrolyte boost as well.
  • 1 cup coconut water
  • 4 oz NingXia Red
  • 1 lemon juiced
  • 1 lime juiced
  • 1-2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1/8 tsp pink Himalayan sea salt
  • 1-2 drops Young Living Vitality of choice: Tangerine, Orange, Lime, Citrus Fresh or Grapefruit
  • 1/2 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp coconut oil
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Mix all ingredients in a blender with some ice for one of the most refreshing drinks EVER. You could even do this without a blender - just throw everything in a shaker cup and enjoy.

Summertime Self Care

DIY Summer Glow Serum

Ditch all the other moisturizers and serums because this one is the game-changer. Apply pouring and evening for healthy, glowing skin. (PS - CBD Beauty Boost has been nicknamed 'Botox in a Bottle,' so you know it's good!) To a
2 oz glass dropper bottle, add:
DIY Vitamin C Facial Toner

Vitamin C and Geranium are a dynamic duo when it comes to brightening the skin. Try out this simple toner as we head into the summer. To a 2 oz glass dropper bottle, add:
  • 1.5 tsp organic Vitamin C powder
  • 5 drops Geranium essential oil
  • 3 tbsp distilled water
  • splash of alcohol-free witch hazel (optional for more oil-prone skin)
Mix Vitamin C powder into the water until dissolved, then add Geranium and top with a splash of witch hazel (optional). Use morning and evening as desired. Store up to 2 weeks at room temperature or longer in the fridge.
Moisturizing Oatmeal Soak

Sun and wind and heat can leave the skin needing a little extra moisture. Give your skin (and your whole self!) some TLC with a long, luxurious soak with these simple but effective ingredients.

Summer Blockbuster Diffuser Blends

Summertime movies on the lawn anyone? These blends are reminiscent of warm nights in the grass watching our favorite movies with our favorite people.

Sweet Magnolias - 4 drops Orange + 3 drops Vanilla + 3 drops Grapefruit + 2 drops Lime

Citrus Fresh Oil Spotlight - June 2022

Citrus Fresh & Citrus Fresh Vitality
Essential Oil Spotlight

OOTM
Each month we focus on using an oil every day to help us in accomplishing our goals. Join us in choosing a method of application and simply getting this oil on and around you every day in June!

Citrus Fresh might be the best citrus oil around. It contains so many favorites - Grapefruit, Tangerine, Lemon and more. This oil is incredibly versatile and a household staple for sure.

Just a Drop of Citrus Fresh

  • Has an invigorating and uplifting scent
  • Creates a creative environment when used aromatically
  • Cleanses the air from unwanted odors
  • Has cleansing properties for the home and the body
  • Provides antioxidant properties
Citrus Fresh essential oil blend combines cold-pressed oils of Orange, Grapefruit, Mandarin, Tangerine, and Lemon with a touch of sharp Spearmint for a bright and refreshing aroma. This versatile oil is good for everything from cleaning to diffusing to skincare and DIYs.

Background

Citrus oils are cold-pressed from the rind of the corresponding fruit, making them alkaline and full of wonderful aroma and flavor. Because it is composed of citrus oils, Citrus Fresh is a great source of antioxidants and the constituent limonene, which has some wonderful health-supporting properties. This blend is also great for the respiratory and immune systems. Add it to your wellness roller and DIY chest rub, especially if you are out of other favorites.

Note: Citrus Fresh and Citrus Fresh Vitality are the same essential oil.

Citrus Fresh & Emotions

Citrus Fresh might be one of the most overlooked emotional support oils. Because this blend combines multiple citrus oils with a hint of mint, it is a great choice for stimulating the right side of the brain. When we are consumed with worry, stress or suffer from analysis paralysis, the right side of the brain is less active. Inhaling Citrus Fresh, getting calm and quiet, allowing the emotions and processing them can help us move out of that place of stickiness.

Also, because Citrus Fresh contains limonene, it has antioxidant properties. Antioxidants help neutralize free radicals in the body. Free radicals cause physical stress, and when we lower that physical stress burden, our emotional benefit as well.

Ingredients
  • Orange essential oil
  • Grapefruit essential oil
  • Mandarin Orange essential oil
  • Tangerine essential oil
  • Lemon essential oil
  • Spearmint essential oil
Key Constituents
Constituents are naturally occurring compounds in plants (and therefore essential oils) that give them specific health-supporting properties.

  • Monoterpenes - help to support the respiratory system, are responsible for many immune system support properties of essential oils.
  • Limonene - known for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-stress support, this is a powerful constituent with many health benefits.
  • Esters - a gentle constituent found in many essential oils, especially citrus oils, that helps to calm both the mind and body.
