Pets and Essential Oils
If you love essential oils, it only makes sense that you'd want to share them with your furry best friends! Join Susan Marshall as she teaches you how to use essential oils on your dogs! 🐶

Check out these great dog stories:
1) My female friend lives on her own. I went to her home to help her present a workshop. We had one male attend. The dog was not happy and kept barking for about 1 hour. Finally, I suggested we rub some diluted Peace&Calming down the back of the dog. The dog stopped barking for the next 30 minutes and we were able to finish our workshop peacefully.

2) I just popped in to see Bronwyn and the storm hit. Evie, her dog, was shaking and was not happy with the stormy environment. I grabbed some Peace & Calming, diluted it in some olive oil and Bronwyn stroked it down her spine. Evie stopped shaking within few minutes. So we put a little Peace & Calming in the diffuser, left the door open for her to be able to leave if she felt the need, and she is much better. She was still panting a little, but it was so wonderful to have her feeling calmer. Peace & Calming is also great when fireworks are about.
Pet Care (specifically made for pets) creates an environment of comfort and reassurance . It can be diffused or applied topically to promote a balanced environment for pets.

Our pets need health too. I love using oils on myself and my family, but it is so exciting to know that we can safely use the oils on pets too. All Young Living animal products are free of synthetic dyes, colours and fragrances.
Some basic guidelines:
  • Do not use essential oils on and around cats or dogs under 10 weeks old because they are developing at fast rates.
  • Every animal is different, so carefully observe how your animal responds to essential oils. Use common sense and good judgment as you try different methods.
  • Start by wearing essential oils and observe the pet's behaviour. Also allowing pets to smell bottles with the lid on is a great way to start too. Rub diluted oil in the palms and allow the pet to come and smell. Observe the pet's behaviour to understand what the pet likes and dislikes. Oils can be added to their bedding too.
  • Be especially careful to not get essential oils in an animal’s eyes or ear drums. Place in the palm of right hand first, add a quality carrier oil, then apply to the animal’s body.
  • Consult a vet when using oils on pregnant cats and dogs.
  • If diffusing, always allow cats access to areas where they can avoid the diffused oil. For example, when diffusing, leave the door open to allow the pet to come and go as desired. Start with a few drops and diffuse for short times when first starting.
  • With all animals, avoid using high-phenol oils—such as Oregano, Wintergreen, Clove, Mountain Savory and Thyme. This is especially important with cats.
  • Use special caution with cats and essential oils. Avoid applying citrus oils topically, diffusing the scent around cats, and having their food flavoured with essential oils.
  • The oil blends listed below are created to use with pets safely. Introduce the oils slowly by allowing the animal to smell it prior to applying it.
  • The smaller the pet, the more carrier oil (eg. olive oil, coconut oil) required. Animals are generally more sensitive to essential oils than humans are. It’s best to heavily dilute essential oils with a quality carrier oil, apply to the coat and use them in moderation.
Dogs - small - 1 drop of essential oil (EO) to 9 drops of carrier oil
Dogs - medium - 1 drop of EO to 4 drops of carrier oil
Dogs - large - 1 drop of EO to 3 drops of carrier oil
Cats - 1 drop of EO to 4 drops of carrier oil
All Animal Scents oils require 1 drop of EO in 5mL of carrier oil. The oil blends for pets include:
