Do your personal care products contain fragrance, aroma or perfume? | Danielle Carrinton
Do your personal care products contain fragrance, aroma or perfume?
I find that my sense of smell has improved so much over the years since I stopped using products containing fragrance. I find it so difficult to walk down the laundry and cleaning aisles, and walk through the perfume section in the chemist. Even walking past some people with toxic perfumes and deodorants on can make me feel unwell. The smell is so overwhelming.

Fragrance works by attacking the receptors in the nose, and thus eliminating the sense of smell.  This is how the new generation of air fresheners actually “freshen”.  They deaden olfactory nerve. http://toxindetective.com/air-fresheners-toxic/ Does this make people feel disgusted?

Fragrance, aroma or perfume is the name given to up to 6000 ingredients that are considered trade secrets and as a result, companies are not required to disclose what goes into them. Problematic ingredients include phthalates, allergens and synthetic musks. http://www.safecosmetics.org/get-the-facts/chemicals-of-concern/fragrance/

Studies are increasingly showing that chemicals in fragrance are harming our health — particularly the health of women and children.  More and more studies are being published that link fragrances to conditions such as headaches, infertility, asthma,  nausea, eczema, dermatitis, chronic fatigue, chemical sensitivity, neurological damage, cancer and many others.

The Case Against Fragrance (Grenville, 2017) is a fascinating book with some insightful information:
* If numerous products (eg. moisteriser, sunscreen and makeup) are applied simultaneously containing the same toxic ingredient, the overall  accumulation effect is unknown.
* Only one ingredient is tested at a time so it is unknown how various product's ingredients interact with other products.
* Be aware that when applying a face cream to the face, neck and hands, that this cream could be over the safe limit as it is only recommended to be applied to the face.

We need to stop using products that contain the ingredient fragrance, perfume or aroma. Companies should have full disclosure of their product's ingredients. I encourage everyone to examine the ingredient's list on their shampoo, baby lotion, deodorant, sunscreen, etc. and check if it contains fragrance, perfume or aroma. Have you checked your personal care products to ensure they do not have fragrance, perfume or aroma?
