Love this mixture. Works a treat. Just add vinegar as your rinse aid.
HOMEMADE DISHWASHING TABLETS
Yield – 16 servings
Preparation Time – 5 minutes plus drying time
INGREDIENTS
1 1/4 cups Washing Soda
3 tablespoons salt
45 drops citrus fresh essential oil
1/2 cup water
PROCEDURE
Combine all ingredients in a glass bowl.
Stir with a stainless steel spoon.
Add mixture to the square silicone mold.
Allow to dry completely. I set mine out in the warm garage for 48 hours to make sure it’s completely dry.
Store in air tight container away from direct sunlight.
Now here’s the two-step secret to really clean dishes and clear glasses every time. (I am so impressed by how well this works.)
Place 1 detergent tab in your machine’s detergent dispenser.
Add 1/2 cup vinegar into the rinsing agent area before starting. This will help with the final rinse to keep residue from building up on your glasses. You probably won’t have to fill this every time. I check to make sure my rinsing agent compartment is full about once a week.

- 1 cup bicarb soda
- ½ cup table salt
- ¼ cup citric acid
- 10 drops lemon essential oil
- 1 cap Young Living's Thieves Household Cleaner
The dishwashing tablets only cost her 11 cents each and she pairs them with her DIY rinse aid.
It's a major saving with the big brands retailing for $27 a bottle.
The rinse aid is a mix of:
- 1 cup vinegar (Use a natural vinegar like Cornwells. Most vinegars are made by a chemical process.)
- 10 drops of lemon essential oil or Young Living’s Citrus Fresh oil
